I don't care what everybody says, I loved the CoT era and 2011 was the absolute peak of that era. A great season which ended in the best way possible. Those times ain't combing back no more.
I remember my whole house being on egg shells all night when smoke got the hole in the nose. Then he slowly made his way through the field. What a legendary moment in NASCAR history. Bring back this format!!
I respected the way Carl Edwards raced people. He came so close so many times and it stinks he couldn't win a title. Hamlin is feeling that pressure. But this in no way reflects on how I see them as drivers. They were some of the best of a generation.
I know it wasn't but anyone else find this and the chase itself a little too story driven? Car won one race prior and Tony 0 yet Tony gets 5 wins and Carl 1 more many times finishing 1,2. All the other chasers magically started having issues every race.
How? Carl won the pole, was fastest in the final practice, led the most laps in the race, avoided any mishaps, beat Tony off of pit road every time. He didn't give way anything, just drove a nearly perfect race. Tony just took it away through sheer force of will..
Smoke passed 118 cars that night. One of the best performances in NASCAR history.
And there was only 43 cars on track.
@RACINGUS95 And you can still make 118 passes with 43 cars on the track. That means you pass cars, go to the back, and pass them again.
Let's be honest, while still very impressive, most of the field was just letting both these guys go all night.
@@MadGear199X in the back of the pack maybe. Not up towards the front
If this isn't the best cup race ever its in the conversation.

One of the most exciting championship races ever. Move the championship back to Homestead!

All time run by Smoke Stewart in that chase. All time race as well.
This is one of the best championship battles in nascar history
Ah yes, my first championship finale that I watched. I remember wanting a photo finish the entire day leading up to it, haha.
They went at it the whole night my dad was a Jeff Gordon fan but wanted Carl too win one Carl deserved one more but not hatin on smoke either
Nail biter till the end , was on call that day just hoping for No calls and a champion!! And both happened!!!!
This run cemented Smokes Legacy as a wheelman.
In my humble opinion, it wasn't Tony Stewart who won that championship... But Carl Edwards who lost...
At just over 20 minutes, does Kurt Busch give a dude the finger? Lmfaooo like FOR WHAT
LOL! I believe its the dude in the truck blocking his entrance into the garage. Was the finger needed? No, but real funny it was caught on camera
Carl Edwards is one of my favourite driver. I used to call him The Backflip Master. Sucks that he was that close to win his first title.
Yep Daniel Hemric is the new backflip man.

Carl gave it to tony
Carl got beat fair and square.
