I run into a lot of vintage Zebco reels with the spool so tight that the drag is frozen up or jerky, like the reel in your video. Yes, it seems the shaft is swollen. I have sometimes sanded the shaft and other times sanded the inside of the spool as you alluded to in the video. I was always in a dilemma as to which way to go with that but after watching your video I believe I will stick with sanding the inside of the spool as the safer/best option for resolving this issue.
My hat goes off to the folks that still use these.... I love fixing things but I would throw that thing in the trash and go get me a spinning reel with a quickness. 👈
@@OutFishing13Matthew I would like to send you some reels for your videos and just to keep and use if there's anyway you could send me your mailing address
Where do you get parts for zebco? Sites I've found have very little of anything. Found plenty of parts diagram with parts numbers but no where to buy anything (by part numbers) thanks
It all depends on what reel you have. If you have a reel more than 12 years old it is practically impossible to find new parts. If you have a part number, you can call Zebco or email them. See their website. The online parts store I used to use is closed.
Marthew, do you have an email account? I have a rather involved question for you, and I thought I'd just send you an email if that's ok? Fyi, really like your channel.

Hey, thanks for your input. I have done both.
Thanks Mr. Matt. Especially replaciing wihj innovated grommet. Looks like very useful panfish reel.
It is! I recently caught a nice trout with it. I will have a video soon.
One thing you will never change my mind about is that Zebco reels are cheap, reliable, and bulletproof
