  • On the back of hearing Rage Against The Machine for the first time, Kirk (my awesome hubby) said I should listen to Tom Morello link up with Chris Cornell in Audioslave, which I didn't know I listened to previously (it was an acoustic performance of "Like A Stone" without Tom!) What a crossover event I had no idea ever happened, and I am absolutely ELATED to hear this for the first time!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Audioslave for the first time, performing "Show Me How To Live”.

Saw him outside of Austin at a festival with Seether in 2006ish… Audioslave was the headliner and the Audioslave set was over 2 hours. They did a 6-8 song set from soundgarden songs… Chris did an acoustic set of 6-8 of his solo songs… 5-6 RATM songs and then another 7-8 Audioslave songs… then a 3 song encore… it was an amazing concert.

I know it is a bold declaration, but my opinion is that the first album, Audioslave, should be considered one of the best rock albums of all time. None of those songs suck and all are really rocking. Plus, you have one of the best vocalists of all time. I also like the Audioslave debut in New York. How cool it would be to be able to say "I was there" for that.

This is my favorite album from all of Cornell’s bands but this was also a tough era for him live. This wasn’t a bad performance by any means but it is markedly different from the studio version, and you can tell he’s struggling with this song, particularly the chorus. (This song is a tough song to single in general.) There are a few live recordings that Audioslave did right after the album first album was released that sound pretty good but that was about it. He damaged his voice early on (at some point there was a surgery) and it drastically changed his sound. In the background he was dealing with addiction along with smoking and drinking. Stuff happens. In his later solo albums he spent a lot of time rebuilding his voice and as a result those live performances were much better and closer to the old style many of us knew and loved. RIP to a legend

Man it’s crazy how Chris could sing a song 100 different ways, you had the album version where all the words were more annunciated and the words flowed naturally with the music and tempo, but then you hear a live version like this where words are run on to each other, he’s singing higher and just completely making the song feel that much more special as it’s a live performance! I have been listening to Chris for as long as I can remember, thanks Dad!

As a huge soundgarden/chris Cornell fan the anticipation of the album when was through the roof. We had been waiting about a year or more. The first song I heard was Cochise. They played to that anticipation with that song and delivered. I knew the album was going to be huge after just the few seconds of Cochise.

I will also add, compared to the studio version, this was definitely at the end of their set... CC was tired at this one, and had given it his all. That ending, with the larynx taps, the studio version it's possibly done internally, (was a huge debate at time of release on the radio how he did it). Vocally, I prefer the studio version to this. It's worth the listen, even if not for your reaction :)

Chris was just overflowing with talent- phenomenal vocalist, excellent songwriter and even a highly original and poetic lyricist. To have that much artistic ability crammed into one human being was astounding. It must’ve been very intense, just to be him. The studio version of this song does feature better enunciation, as well as his fabulous high belting more clear and front and center. All of these musicians were way too talented to simply languish, so the formation of this band was a great means to continue their powerful creativity.

It's very sad that Chris was deep in battling addiction and drinking issues around this time, some of his vocal performances sound a bit off- however, it may also just be the low quality live show recordings.
