Hey how much CAD or solid works is used throughout the course ?

Quite a lot. You will use Solidworks in all your individual/group projects. However keep in mind that in a group project, you usually give one (maybe two) people responsibility for the CAD work. You can also pick modules that help develop your CAD skills.
