Ultimately the Mods and Rockers event is about like minded enthusiasts getting together to chat about all things two-wheeled, listen to great music and admire some fantastic bikes.
My favourite part of this video is when the group of mods comes across the smal group of rockers on BSAs they all start fighting like mad and then the police show up with the vans. Crazy!
The Italian scooter of the 1960s and 70s, although dirty (petroil mixture 2 stroke) and with handling like a pig on roller skates, dire cornering and unenen weight distribution was perfectly suited for its original purpose. The scooter was designed to be ridden wearing a short skirt and stiletto heels around town and at the same time light enough to be lifted onto the stand by a girl. Scooters were adopted in the UK by not very bright posers who proceeded to cover them in lights (far more than the feeble generators could power) and mirrors. At night all the glassware could focus headlights behind on the riders and dazzle them. On the lighter side, these idiots would frequently come crawling round to our garage and ask us to 'fix' their scooters for them for no charge of course. The problem with these mechanically simple and reliable machines was usually a buildup of oily crud in the expansion box and the cure was to give them a damned good thrashing. The best bit was the last when he came to collect. Keep the punter lalking while a mate bump starts the scooter in reverse. Mods would invariably try to impress us by doing a flashy takeoff and go sailing over the handlebars. With the scooter on the ground, switch off, pick up the scooter. kick start it and ride around on it saying 'How did you do that?' They never worked it out.
Hmmmmmm, Mods take on everyday traffic and dawdle past a dozen or so bikes. Thrilling!!!!!!!
