- Leaving the Fleur de Lis Pub and the moorings at Lowsonford we continue our narrowboat journey down the beautiful Stratford Canal towards Stratford upon Avon. Our friend Phil from Locking through Life meets us part way and we decide to stop at the Navigation Inn.
Listen to the birdsong and admire the English countryside as we travel in silence on an electric propulsion narrowboat. Travelling on the Grand Union Canal on an electric propulsion narrowboat, armed with lithium batteries and an electric motor from Vetus and almost 2 kw of solar, will our new Narrowboat make it through the amazing Braunston tunnel and Down the locks past the Admiral Nelson Pub. We seatch for a mooring on this busy canal and head to the pub for a few drinks, walking back along the canal at night to our cosy narrowboat home, just perfect.
Paul & Anthony together with Dexter live full time, but manage to work part-time, on a Narrowboat, cruising the UK Canals and finding out what it's really like to be Living on a boat exploring the Nature and scenery on some of the best canals and rivers in the UK onboard an Oakums Narrowboat called Morning Star. Our brand brand new narrowboat from Oakums Narrowboats is embracing the latest technology including lithium, solar, and electric propulsion, the boat will be coal and gas free. We can't wait to share our new adventures with you.

Absolutely stunning scenery. It is totally different from here, but equally beautiful. My wife has been amazed and hit the nail on the head when she said that the UK has a gentler geography. Here the mountains are enormous, with deep valleys short fast flowing rivers. The climate in Japan too is harsher,,,,blisteringly hot - and humid summers, and winters that bury our 1 story house in snow! You could not believe how beautiful it is here, though,,,,,,,,But watching your videos, makes me homesick at times!! Thank you for yet another incredible vlog.

Beautiful canal on a perfect English summer day! There were a lot of locks, but narrow locks empty/fill more quickly than the two-boat locks. Always a silver lining 😊

Hi Paul, Anthony and Dexter-Dog. Paul must have been shattered after all the driving, the doing a 2 hour show, and driving back to the Boat. So lovely to see Dexter walking by the side of the boat, and how wonderful it must have been for you both when he (Dexter) jumped up and cuddled next to you both on the couch. Anthony, loving the new hair style, you are such a kool dude. You certainly can tell the (sound) difference when the generator cuts in. If you did not use any electrical appliances (cooker etc) for a day, Would your batteries get pretty well topped up from the Solar? Those little bridges looked really low. Did you at anytime need to take the chimney off. A really nice cruise today. Thank you to you both. Take care. Spoolbox.

Very nice indeed. Thank you guys for that delightful cruise along the Stratford Canal very enjoyable. When you reach Stratford upon Avon will you take in a bit of Shakespeare? If you do be prepared for some very pricey tickets. In 1994 I saw Toby Stephens as Coriolanus and though enjoyable it really was expensive. All the best❤Stephen
Thanks Stephen. Such a lovely canal. We are always snookered when it comes to taking in a show because we can’t leave Dexter. I don’t own a narrowboat, welded a few up in my time. But I fish for pike a lot on canals (catch and release always!) and would be buzzed if I saw you one morning while fishing lol

I’m thinking one would be hard pressed to top the English canal system on a glorious summer’s day. Absolutely beautiful. But can we have a conversation, please, about Paul’s support of the Yankees? Remind me to send you a Dodgers hat to straighten you out. 🙌😘🐶

Sadly, that section of canal has put my wife and her sister off canals somewhat.
Neither of them wanted to drive the boat and so she and her sister ended up doing all the manual work on the locks on the way down.
We got as far as the Fluer de Lys but then had to do another 14 locks down before we got to a winding hole.
Another 14 back to the Fluer de Lys and we sat in the garden and enjoyed their food again.
Unfortunately, we didn't manage Stratford-upon-Avon because we had been advised of a closure which made us change our plan and we moored two nights there before continuing uphill through all the locks again.
I did help with the locks on the return leg, simply because there's no need to worry about the cill going up the flight.
I have to admit, on some of those locks, many of the paddles were very hard to wind.
I think we did 84 locks on the round trip instead of the full 108 between Alvechurch and Stratford-upon-Avon.
We're booked in there again in 2024 but will go towards Birmingham as there's quite a distance you can travel without locks.
Plus we'll hopefully get to visit the Black Country museum. 🙏🙏

@@anthonysmith-storey9247 arriving by boat, mooring in the Stratford basin, going to see a play at the theatre has been my dream for a long time.
I want to try it again but I think to do Alvechurch to Stratford and return, within a week, is pushing it hard and isn't a relaxing holiday.
I think it would be better done over two weeks, so I'm going to have a look and see if there's another boat yard we can use that will allow us to do that but without so many locks.
We're currently in the very South of Bavaria, Germany in our motorhome and we're leaving this morning to head for Schladming in Austria to spend a week in our timeshare before returning home via 3 nights in the Moho.

What kind of nuts was the Small White on? I live in fear of moths, I’m a knitter of natural fibres and moths jus t love to lay their eggs in the yarn so when they hatch the little buggers can eat my yarn. 😳 Natural fibre yarn is not cheap, much too good for moths. 😂🤣 Beautiful scenery in this vlog👍🏼

The Haunted Mansion is a Disney movie based on the Haunted Mansion in their parks. Looks fun. It's 70 right now at 7:30pm. Hope the heat leaves you soon. 🥰

Hello Paul and Anthony. I have a couple questions about your induction stove. How have you found it with regards to the power consumption? And have you had any issues with burn to pan size? I recently watch a vlog about this problem of pan to burn size ratio, and I was just curious how you guys where doing as liveaboards with this type of appliance. My partner and I are still planning on joining you on the "Cut" with an all-electric vessel, (late 2024, early 2025) and we're still working out the options. Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.
Hey Eddie. The induction hob is fairly power hungry but it heats up more quickly thank has and obviously they are a lot safer. We tend not to have issues with the pan sizes but we do only have a 2 ring hob. The lithium bank is huge so we don’t have much issue unless we have let them deplete in the daytime and then the generator will kick in to protect the batteries. Hello from Tucson Arizona. No canals and locks here. Love your videos and of all the narrow boat channels you guys are my favorite. It's so obvious that you love living on your magnificent boat. Your videos are always so upbeat and positive and the scenery is beautiful. So green, but you certainly pay for it with rain...😹😸😹. I would love to visit England but like Dexter Id rather just relax. What wonderful parents he has...he is a lucky boy. 🐕. I have to say, you Brits love your dogs. However being a cat person I worry about how carelessly cats are treated. I would never let my cats out so they can wander. But then I live in the wild West. 😹😸. Keep cruising and filming. You're the best!

hi your battries always seem to be around 70 percent even though its high summer it will be intersting to see how thing go in winter have you got a back up plan to help keep the bats going
Hi Simon. We have had some issues with the solar and battery charging but hopefully these will soon be resolved. I guess because we don’t have gas and use the batteries for everything, we are never going to be at 100% and to be honest, lithium don’t like being fully charged all the time. We know winter will be a bit more challenging and we will need to run the generator more. It will be interesting to see the difference. Hope you have a lovely weekend ❤

How about doing Roses & Castles Painting classes so you can earn money from your awesome art skills…. Or would the logistics of it not really work that easy due to being a Continuous Cruiser?
