I have been in Canada so many times when I lived in Alaska. Went up and down the Cassiar and Al-Can probably 100 times from the Lower 48 back to AK. I NEVER found but one restaurant that my family could stand the food in. It was a Russian cafe in a little out if the way town that I cannot remember now. Canadian food is the most bland tasteless food I ever ate. My husband said that only English food was more tasteless! He was stationed there for 2 years. Don't believe any of this! The only thing that would be enticing would be the Native Fry Bread if fresh fried.

It's actually called Fry Bread and is a Native American/Alaskan Native food. It's not a Canadian dish at all. It's American, and Native American more specifically.

Me impatiently waiting for Nanaimo bars to appear... would also add Canadian Cadbury Mini Eggs to the list, those things are super addictive and much better than UK and US versions.

If you go do your research fried dough has been around since anywhere from 8000-5500 BC in China and Egypt. There you have the whole story.

Tim Bits are just as lousy as their donuts. These items are not fried fresh in the restaurant, but shipped frozen from some factory and then defrosted in the back-store before getting dipped in a sugar-chemical goo and put on sale. Truly disgusting.

Beaver tails are a very rare treat, but it is also very tasty. As a Canadian, I am not a big fan of poutine, I prefer crispy fries. Butter tarts are also quite delicious and commonly available.

I have to agree. They are chalky, too sweet and it never seemed to be a good "mix". Tried to like them, but never found any place, homemade or store bought that made one I liked.
