This high school must really have some staff that know how to teach high schoolers to their top potential and how to run a musical. There's clear diction, a crisp pit orchestra, and a great balance between all the singing parts...things that most other high schools can only dream of.
I really can't believe that this is a high school production. I've done many shows on different levels and this rivals most community/semi pro performances I have done and seen. I mean, REALLY REMARKABLE. Look around at different characters...every person is committing. The singing....you can hear all the parts yet they blend well. I just couldn't be more jealous that our production will not likely be half of what this one is. Thanks for the inspirations.
Our high school is doing this play. This is one of the best high school versions I've seen. Goodjob, I hope we can do justice to Music Man too at our school. >
Townspeople: Oh, there's nothing halfway About the Iowa way to treat you When we treat you Which we may not do at all There's an Iowa kind of special Chip-on-the-shoulder attitude We've never been without That we recall We can be cold As a falling thermometer in December If you ask about our weather in July And we're so by God stubborn We could stand touchin' noses For a week at a time And never see eye-to-eye But what the heck, you're welcome Join us at the picnic You can eat your fill Of all the food you bring yourself You really ought to give Iowa a try Provided you are contrary We can be cold As our falling thermometer in December If you ask about our weather in July And we're so by God stubborn We can stand touchin' noses For a week at a time And never see eye-to-eye But we'll give you our shirt And a back to go with it If your crop should happen to die Farmer: So, what the heck, you're welcome Glad to have you with us Farmer and Wife: Even though we may not ever mention it again Townspeople: You really ought to give Iowa Hawkeye Iowa Dubuque, Des Moines Davenport, Marshalltown Mason City, Keokuk, Ames Clear Lake Ought to give Iowa a try!
my school just got finished with this musical today, and we did it very differently! we had a bit more movement throughout the lines, but we had a bigger stage, and not so much set i think this version is still great though :)
this is an amazing production. i am a lighting director at my high school for your production and i wish it was half as good as this. does your school put a lot of money into its theater program. because i looked back at our old productions and they looked to be on this caliber, i dont know what happened but i think it has to do with our director being unwilling to use tech to its fullest potential in the show and our tech director's incapability to allocate funds correctly
the singing was good but the farmer and the lady were backwards and the mayors character is not to be made fun of. it was asked by the writer but i liked the rest of it, just the small thing can throw me off
@nolanMF We audition some elementary school kids to create a convincing community with children. It's not uncommon at all plus there are a few child characters in the show.
Sounds wonderful( like really though my high school sounds like a bunch of screeching cats) buut doing something with the ensemble would have been better, just standing there is a little boring, and the song started out super fast and then the dialogue was kinda slow. but oh well at least you tried.
Omg. This production is AMAZING!!! Last month I auditioned for a summer high school production of the music man. I’m in the tap ensemble!!!
This is incredibly impressive for a high school. Kudos to everyone involved!

I've done this show several times. This is an excellent job. Well done to all who were involved.
OMG this is the best Iowa Stubborn I have seen. U guys are gifted!!! ;D

This is So. Well. Done. Absolutely among the best musical productions I've ever seen, not just high school but professional too. Bravo!
AMAZING! What a talented school!
Amazing for a high school production.
Fandamntastic !
This song has always made me wanna drive through IOWA .
This is great.
awsome singers!!!
thank you :)
Love the Set!!!!
I love this song! We are doing this musical this fall, and he funny part is, we are an Iowa high school. Which makes this song even funnier.
I did costumes for this show, the person who did your costumes did such a great job, you sound so amazing
that stage... its huge!
this is very nice my school will be proforming the music man this winter and i hoping it is as good as this
very professionial and well done
Townspeople:
Oh, there's nothing halfway
About the Iowa way to treat you
When we treat you
Which we may not do at all
There's an Iowa kind of special
Chip-on-the-shoulder attitude
We've never been without
That we recall
We can be cold
As a falling thermometer in December
If you ask about our weather in July
And we're so by God stubborn
We could stand touchin' noses
For a week at a time
And never see eye-to-eye
But what the heck, you're welcome
Join us at the picnic
You can eat your fill
Of all the food you bring yourself
You really ought to give Iowa a try
Provided you are contrary
We can be cold
As our falling thermometer in December
If you ask about our weather in July
And we're so by God stubborn
We can stand touchin' noses
For a week at a time
And never see eye-to-eye
But we'll give you our shirt
And a back to go with it
If your crop should happen to die
Farmer:
So, what the heck, you're welcome
Glad to have you with us
Farmer and Wife:
Even though we may not ever mention it again
Townspeople:
You really ought to give Iowa
Hawkeye Iowa
Dubuque, Des Moines
Davenport, Marshalltown
Mason City, Keokuk, Ames
Clear Lake
Ought to give Iowa a try!
For The High School production, this is very good!
I played Harold hill at my schools performance of this just recently. It's interesting to see his take on it.

Azusa Pacific University had a bigger stage, but u guys really stood out as townspeople, great job
@stevaloo101 He and Harold (really named Gregory) are both from the city but have moved out west to make lives there.
WOOHOO
I'm surprised at the quality of singing. I love this show.
When my Christian high school did this musical, they said “Dog Gone” instead of “By God” to be reverent.
I taught HS drama. Excellent performance! Some of the comments must have been directed for a Broadway production.
Ye gads this is good
I'm gonna do this at mah school and I'm in 5th grade :>
I did this musical!
I was the farmers wife.
Its interesting that the same guy who played Harold Hill also played another conman--Byalistock--in The Producers.
I just got cast as farmer’s wife. Wish me luck
They seemed to rush through it a bit fast but still pretty good:)
@spifflord308
ok:) its just ive seen alot of other schools use all student casts, like my high school. its still really good though.
@octoberbaby345 the song is about an uptight town so they should be stiff! haha
the singing was good but the farmer and the lady were backwards and the mayors character is not to be made fun of. it was asked by the writer but i liked the rest of it, just the small thing can throw me off
Huh?
@nolanMF We audition some elementary school kids to create a convincing community with children. It's not uncommon at all plus there are a few child characters in the show.
Could've added more to the song ( dance moves)
what was up with mayor shinn? oh well, besides that, it was pretty good:) im doing a production of music man too:))))
i was amarrylis once
@micago62 why you hating bro? i never said anything bad about this performance.
im in this for the play were also ding the muic man im the famers wife

This is the bitchiest song ever :) so good though!!
Sounds great, but it is terribly uninteresting to watch a mob of people just standing on stage.
If this is a high school play why are some of the performers so young?
Sometimes if their is younger roles 9th graders or younger kids will play those roles 😊
I usually think these school musicals are awful, but this is superb!
Too top heavy. Chorus seems too disengaged.
