    I am really, really picky when it comes to black metal. This is my favorite album of the year hands down. Excellent from beginning to end, making 11 minute songs not long enough.

    I got some serious Bathory vibes from this album, you know those mid tempo Viking marching riffs, I got hints of bands like Keep of Kalessin with the fast trem picking stuff, and of course the dungeon synth stuff is a harken back to early Satyricon and even bands like Mortiis. But there’s also some serious Dissection vibes going on too, mostly Storm era.
    Totally caught me off guard who cool this record is.

      Completely agree! Definitely an album that brings in so many influences from the glory days of black metal, but then puts their own spin on it too. I am still listening to this album so much, definitely one of my favorites from the last year

      @@HammerheartMetalReviews and I just found the son of a bitch today by accident. I guess Spotify has its perks with the recommended artists. I was just giving Këkht Aräkh another spin and just decided to look at similar artists (something I rarely do) and Stormkeep popped up. The cover art made me give it a listen, I love that almost Dissection vibe it has going. The man with the hood reminds me of the reaper guy from Storm and the Live album. Obviously it’s a wizard but I still can’t help but feel those oldschool vibes in the cover alone. Totally killer band.

    Galdrum was my favorite record from last year so my expectations were sky high but this album really got fucked by the production. Not only the guitars have lost all the edge but they also sound like mush; I have to constantly strain my ears to hear the riffs and melodies cause they are so muffled, it just gets exhausting. Most of the time the keys are so faint they might as well not even be there. I'm honestly pissed, this could have been great.

    • @HammerheartMetalReviews
      @HammerheartMetalReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's too bad..I honestly don't have the same issues with the production. It is definitely on the cleaner side compared to Galdrum, maybe doesnt have that same old school sound production-wise, but I still really enjoy this album a lot.

    • @adamagedone
      @adamagedone 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HammerheartMetalReviews To it's not just the fact that it sounds cleaner: it just doesn't sound good, even by clean production standards. The riffs are buried in noise, you can barely tell them apart
