"This is a work of love, this is come from love. This is something that I really, really care about. Music is a real substance, it's (a) powerful substance and it's got to be taken seriously."
This. This was the guy. There are many film composers I love who have scored several times as many soundtracks I love as Kamen had. Yet, he remains my absolute favorite. James Newton Howard is second only to this man in my heart. Time and time again throughout my life I have found myself right back to a few Kamen scores of my young childhood like this one here. It resets me, it revives me, it rejuvenates me. Whenever I stray too far and lose myself amidst life's rough and harsh seas, I come back to this music and I remember. Like nothing else I've known, when the magic is experienced again and comes with me back out into the world......without any words at all, I undestand what I'm about and who I intend to be. Always bow to love.
One of the best soundtracks EVER ♥ MK was a brilliant composer, and he looked deeply involved and in love with what he did. RIP and thanks for all, Michael.
Pierce Brosnan on narration! This is one of the finest movie scores I've ever heard - scratch that, this is on the most beautiful pieces of music that has ever graced human ears. Michael was a genius...
I miss you Michael Kamen. Every time I hear the song'' Everything I do I do it for you'' I can't help thinking about Michael. He was to me the very best in a man.
Kamen was a bonafide musical genius. His scores are always wonderfully effective. The "Robin Hood" movie is so-and-so, but the soundtrack makes you think it's better than it is. Kamen died FAR too young at the age of 55; we were robbed of decades of great compositions.
"that's the closest I can get to her..." so eloquently put, and so bittersweet, that's probably the sentiment of every guy who ever fell in love with someone so unreachable..
The theme is immortal - its beauty is infinite! It ignites a mysterious passion and seduces the longing romantic inside us all. Rest in Peace Michael Kamen
What makes this so compelling and why it is such a great masterpiece is just simply listening to Michael Kamen. His own emotional self expression is displayed so genuinely hence this is when the greatest of work & pieces are brought forth. I saw the movie at the theaters when I was 10 back in 1991 w/ my Uncle & brother. This musical piece still stands the test of time along w/ many other pieces from this movie. Great Composer, but an even greater Human Being.
i had the privilige of meeting michael and getting to know him. a gentler, more luminous soul you will never meet. we lost someone of great depth, light, an joy when he departed. long live his memory! all the best and then some, the sometimes why
He was a musical genius, from his days in Juilliard , thru the New York Rock and Roll Ensemble days, to his career as a composer and arranger for movies. A very accomplished oboist as well. Plus, an interesting, complicated, nice guy.
I'm an editor, and I edit a lot of things with actresses who I tend to fall in love with once I drop in the right music track. What he says at 3:54 resonates big time.
pop culture like bryan adams destroys the very essence of music, the essence that brings the emotion and brings tears, no words are necessary when you composed a beautiful melody, an orchestra of over 100 musicians playing a theme composed by a genius is perfection along with the film images, there is no pop culture than this feeling. kamen with his music will be here forever
Is it just me or does portions of this score pop up everywhere?? I seem to remember hearing it during various movie previews and when production company logos are shown. It is, by far, one of my favorite movie scores. It's so moving and emotional. One of the reasons why I love this movie so much (cuz it's not because Kevin does a great job acting! LOL)
I dont think we need to argue who wrote what, its well known that Kamen was a hugely talented composer and Bryan Adams is a talented songwriter. Thing is that writing for orchestra is different and thats I'm sure where Kamen's talent came into play, whether he wrote the original notes or not.
It's funny, his way of figuring out where the "beats" go for the music is different than the way John Williams does it. John has a big white blurry line that sweeps across the screen and when it his the right side, that's where the beat is. I think if I was doing it, I'd rather have that than the time at the bottom.
Upon further review, the penalty has been removed! lol Bloggerjoe is correct, and I am wrong. Kamen wrote the melody, Bryan and Mutt added to it, added lyrics(not crappy, a truly lovely song imo) and if they harrassed Kamen, deserve a shot to the nutz
what a composer what a person what a man...
I miss this genius composer so much...
Me toooo💔💔💔
"that's as close as I'll get to her..." Michael Kamen, truly one of the greatest!
Such a gorgeous score. The main fanfare is the one that Hollywood has almost taken to use in defining itself.

Agreee❤️❤️❤️❤️
4 minutes! I could watch 40 hours of this without the commentary.
Me too. I was heartbroken when he passed away of a heart attack in November of 2003. RIP Michael Kamen 💔
What a lovely, thoughtful, humble man! We need a LOT more people like him in this world!
The music and the movie still gives me chills!
RIP Michael Kamen
Thank you for the music Michael.
Pierce Brosnan on narration! This is one of the finest movie scores I've ever heard - scratch that, this is on the most beautiful pieces of music that has ever graced human ears. Michael was a genius...
Damn! He’d have made a great Robin Hood - tall, dashing, charismatic, athletic, ladies man, and so on.
RIP Michael Kamen (1948-2003)
I loved his work on S&M with Metallica.
He was, and will always be, a great genius...
Michael Kamen was a true musical magician! So sad he passed away so early. What a talent, what a feeling, what a soul!..
To hear how much he loved making this delights me. Michael Kamen, you are missed, sir.
I feel like people really don't understand what an incredible talent Kamen was and just what a loss his passing was for both movies and music.
Genious score my favorite of all times. Nothing Come close! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I miss you Michael Kamen. Every time I hear the song'' Everything I do I do it for you'' I can't help thinking about Michael. He was to me the very best in a man.
Robin Hood and The Three Musketeers, two of the biggest romantic scores there are, both from this brilliant artist. I love his music.

Our true hero in this movie is and ever was Michael Kamen... Thank you so much.
one of the greatest soundtracks - and the most underrated.
God rest your soul MK, what an amazing human being, such an inspiration
One of my favourite score. Great composer.
The theme is immortal - its beauty is infinite! It ignites a mysterious passion and seduces the longing romantic inside us all. Rest in Peace Michael Kamen
Best soundtrack ever.. so heroic!
Michael kamen understood the assignment and he delivered it in spades. Heroics, romance and swashbuckling action. One of the best film scores created

Great Composer, but an even greater Human Being.
I love his work the New Moon In The Old Moons Arms. He was always one of my favorite modern day composers.
What a BLOODY tragedy.
RIP Maestro 🌺 🙏
Hans Zimmer is good but Michael Kamen is GREAT!!!!
Love your music Michael .... a prayer for You
Breathtaking!! Beautifu!l
and Bitter Sweet now that he's gone... 😪
i had the privilige of meeting michael and getting to know him. a gentler, more luminous soul you will never meet. we lost someone of great depth, light, an joy when he departed. long live his memory!
all the best and then some,
the sometimes why
Very nice of you to upload this ... It´s nice to see the composer speak about his true feelings and thoughts about his work. thanks
he's so lovely
Best score ever written.
Probably the best thing about that movie was the music.
So cool, looks like he had a great personality and loved doing what he did
You said it so correctly. Why are the modern composers so underrated and ignored? These men should be listened to and honored.
Brilliant! One of the greatest composers of our time.
Hero of my childhood.
genius is only the word for him....
He was a musical genius, from his days in Juilliard , thru the New York Rock and Roll Ensemble days, to his career as a composer and arranger for movies. A very accomplished oboist as well. Plus, an interesting, complicated, nice guy.
A magical, warm person. His presence lit up a room like no other....
He was a genious. This is my favorite soundtrack. R.I.P.
What an unbelievalbe talent he was. Mr.Holland's Opus remains among my favorites as does Robin Hood.
Wonderful
I'm an editor, and I edit a lot of things with actresses who I tend to fall in love with once I drop in the right music track. What he says at 3:54 resonates big time.
This is brilliant, Thank you so much for posting this, I'm going to use it in a music lesson to teach my class about film scores
3:20 just hits it
Michael Kamen= GENIO

RIP
yes, he's one of my favorties, DIE HARD has always been one of my favorites
I love that "that's as close as i'll ever get to her" what a cool guy
♥️♥️♥️
I miss the phenomenal music of Michael but it's as they say: only the good die young.
Cool Vid!! I LOVE the score from this movie!!!!
I miss him, loads.
an absolute genius, sadly missed
1990 - 1991 were 2 busy years for him: Queensryche, Metallica and Bryan Adams in addition to movie soundtracks.
RIP.
Yes, it's him. The footage is taken from a documentary shown on American television the night before the premiere of Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves.
my hero. travel well good sir. see you on the other side.
RIP Michael Kamen!
Grande Maestro e Diretor Musical . O Pink Floyd deve muito á ele .
THUMBS UP FOR YOU!!! I love Zimmer, but Zimmer is pop, where as Kamen was eclectic!
Sad that he is gone what he did with MetallicA is extremely cool.
maestro...
3:55 So beautifully said.
Such a loss...
seemed like a real stand up chap. rip.
Genius.
Pierce Bronson, the narrator
Red Card thank you so much!! I knew I recognised the voice, but just couldn’t place it!
0:21 - :38 You can also find out about underscore involving Michael on the subtitle commentary of Die Hard.
Great video! Thanks a lot :-)
very true

Simple?! That's more notes than Drake's entire back catalogue
He was instumental (no pun intended) in getting the Metallica symphony performance off the ground as well.
well said
amazing---can anyone tell me if the cue featured from 3:20 on is anywhere on the soundtrack?
@negolatak I have a feeling that it was Michael who wrote the melody. No offense to BA, but it seems like something MK would have done.
I liked his x-men score
2:18 “How did your uneducated kind, ever take Jerusalem?” “.. God knows!”
this is pretty cool. is that Sam Neill narrating?
Sounds more like Mr Brosnan.
@bloggerjoe It's a business dude. Same shit goes on in all industries. These guys are in it for the money just as much as the love.
As do I. A light, a talent put out far too soon. Did you know him personally?
Is Pierce Brosnan narrating?
Is there an kamen interview on the highlander score?
Mitico
Upon further review, the penalty has been removed! lol Bloggerjoe is correct, and I am wrong. Kamen wrote the melody, Bryan and Mutt added to it, added lyrics(not crappy, a truly lovely song imo) and if they harrassed Kamen, deserve a shot to the nutz
Is this Pierce Brosnan?
Yeah!
@PizzaGolf2003 Yeas i can...but these are professionels its their job!
What’s the dislikes for?
