Some people don't realize the dedication it takes to play this well... It is literally a lifelong devotion and dedication. This isn't just some side-hobby for them, it is literally their life. I get a little depressed to know that even though I am a pretty talented player, I can never get as good as any professional because I chose a different path for my life. Thank you for this, CB...
Kingwut117 Do not be depressed. We all make our choices. I too selected another path. Music is not there strictly to be mastered, but to be enjoyed, Enjoyed the experience music has brought you and strive to be the best whatever you have chosen to be.
I play in a very good quintet, not quite of this caliber, but still a group of great players. I’m the lone non-professional in the group. At the end of the day we smash brass tubes into our face, blow, and try to male them sound pretty. We do it to communicate and to excite. Focus on that and you will find joy in music.
Hey, been there felt that. I think you can get 80% of the pleasure from 20% of the work these professionals probably put in. Just find a group (maybe the hardest part), practice regularly, and enjoy making music together. I hope you find fulfillment on the path you chose!
i think that although Canadian brass is one of my hugest inspirations, and many other peoples as well, that you may have chosen a different life path, but have fun! play on the side and enjoy! that's truly the only way to get better is to like what you are doing
Played this with my quintet during my senior year of high school as the closer to our last concert. As a French Horn player, I couldn't have asked for any better last piece--any better last note--to play in high school. Now in college as a non-music major, although I still am in music groups, I'm still wishing I could have more moments like this.
It's hard to express such beauty in words. The best one can do is feel it. In your heart, or in your smile, or even in your tears. It makes you feel Canadian. That's what's best of all.
Ralph, certainly you've passed along a great deal of your knowledge to so many in music. Thank you for that. I did have the opportunity to perform this last summer at the Humboldt State University Brass Chamber Music Workshop with some excellent musicians, from college age to those of us that have played for years. A beautiful piece.
Is this true? If so I just want to wish to you a Happy New Year. Everytime I listen to MC music especially 101 Dalmatians I cry. Thank you for being his inspiration. Thank you.
Fantastic!!! My daughter played the clarinet in high school band and marching band. I loved the High School concerts. The teacher was and is fantastic! A little town in Barstow, California. They were concerdered a AA band and won all tournaments.
I played this. I was so honored to play it, we played it for a memorial service for our friend that passed away this year. The trick is to have emotion. Let the music guide you, and watch. Our quintet played it without a conductor, because we conveyed parts through movement.
I come back and watch this multiple times a year. It is my favorite piece for brass. As a choir teacher (and a former tuba player), I make my choir students watch it to talk about texture, dynamics and polyphony. Please make more videos like this.
This piece is magnificent. The calm serenity of the lake along with the hill really emphasizes the song's beautiful nature. This song is definitely something I'd like to play with my buddies.
Mama Manatee bought Max tickets to see the Canadian Brass live at the Lyric Theater, Stuart, Florida for Christmas. It was the best gift I've ever gotten.
just feeling not only the power, but the warmth and strengthening vibes that the low brass gives off, almost kind of like that moment in movies where the hero is honored in some way
I'm a clarinet player, and I always boasted about the incomparably warm sound of the clarinet but wow... brass players certainly hold the crown for being so beautifully dark and warm! Absolutely beautiful!
God... Those dissonances make my spine tingle... This is an amazing work of art. I can only wish I were nearly as adept at my skill as these men are to theirs.
I listened to this once and immediately bought the music (legitimately of course). I hope that my sons, my grandson (trombone) and I can play this. It's beautiful with a touch of sadness. Perhaps the sadness comes through from the players, having commissioned the piece and then having the composer pass away? In any case, simply gorgeous.
If you like this music (and who would not?) there is a wonderful rendering of it for concert band. After conducting it many times with my band last summer, I thought about doing it with my brass group at church. A fresh listen to the original brass version changed my mind: As beautiful as this is, I feel it pales in comparison to the version with the full colors of the wind band. Check it out, it is a glorious piece to conduct!
I am in a music theory class at my high school and our final is to compose a full brass quintet piece that will be played live. This is serving as great inspiration of what can be within reach! :)
The sheet music is published and sold at the Canadian Brass online store. The title is under contemporary single quintets and titled simply, "Quintet".
@Thetubaeddie Usually they make some tuba mouth pieces like that because they have a much larger mass, then say a trumpet. So they interact with temperature which in turn screw up intonation. So the plastic ones are used on sousas a lot and other outdoor playing.
This was old, they now only play on Selmer/Conn instruments. The trumpets are now the Artisan strads, but they were Yammies as shown here. I like that they chose what model they want to play here vs. only playing the standard artisan.
I grew up appreciating brass music: My mother played cornet in high school, and I played trombone. As a composer, I loved to write for trombone and brass ensembles. (Some of my music is available online at MusicaNeo.) This piece by Canadian Brass is a glorious performance of majestic music in the amazing outdoors. I cannot help but wonder, however, if it was performed outdoors or dubbed in a studio with a track of geese overlaid at the end, due to the reverberation.
not only do they have superb playing ability but apparently they can teleport all over the place while they play. truly magical!
Some people don't realize the dedication it takes to play this well... It is literally a lifelong devotion and dedication. This isn't just some side-hobby for them, it is literally their life.

I would love to be walking through some natural habitat and just find the Canadian brass playing. That would be great.
Then they should take a new film again
Wild brass wants to battle
Still dreaming? :D

I wish we had better players like this to play it😪😢😢
One of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard heard!!!😊
3:11 gave me goosebumps. Which is why I love French Horn.
It's hard to express such beauty in words. The best one can do is feel it. In your heart, or in your smile, or even in your tears. It makes you feel Canadian. That's what's best of all.
Best full, warm sound in brass I've heard ever! So amazing!!
I'm in love with the Canadian Brass.
and this piece as well.
Great piece by Michael. Kamen was a pupil of mine from the time he was 15. A very special talent . Sad that he passed so young. I love the CB.

The beautiful Elora Quarry, to think I use to jump off those cliffs as a youngster. Playing my trombone much safer! Great video.
This piece is magnificent. The calm serenity of the lake along with the hill really emphasizes the song's beautiful nature. This song is definitely something I'd like to play with my buddies.
This is so so so so beautiful. I play the trombone
This is so so so so beautiful. I play the tuba.
This is so so so so beautiful. I play the trumpet
This is so so so so beautiful. I play the horn
Absolutely breathtaking. These men play such beautiful music!
Mama Manatee bought Max tickets to see the Canadian Brass live at the Lyric Theater, Stuart, Florida for Christmas. It was the best gift I've ever gotten.
nice, hope you had a nice time!
for me I feel goosebumps when ever you here the low brass play the chords. and especially the french horn, god I wish i could be in a group like this.
Ah man that part at 1:58 was one of those moments
Absolutely beautiful "brass quintet music" along with very beautiful performance by great musicians! Thank you, colleagues, for amazing work!
just feeling not only the power, but the warmth and strengthening vibes that the low brass gives off, almost kind of like that moment in movies where the hero is honored in some way

My son introduced me to this group and song. Haunting! Inspirational! This recording now represents one of the dearest characters I write.
the best stories can't be told in words
Who knew the great outdoors of mother nature could allow such wonderful instruments play and magnificent song for her.
To take something from the earth and eventually turn it into something so beautiful is quite an achievement.
God... Those dissonances make my spine tingle... This is an amazing work of art. I can only wish I were nearly as adept at my skill as these men are to theirs.
Chuck Daellenbach is my hero.
Bryan Morton when they first showed Chuck wearing the dark glasses I do not know why but it was emotional.
This is a gorgeous piece!! I LOVE Canadian Brass!
this piece brought a tear to my eye. i adore these people and their skill.
This is seriously one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
I listened to this once and immediately bought the music (legitimately of course). I hope that my sons, my grandson (trombone) and I can play this. It's beautiful with a touch of sadness. He was brilliant! He created magic and he died way too soon. RIP Michael Kamen.
My ear never want to leave this music

The best song I heard in a long time from Douth Africa
I love this piece. Every time I hear the Canadian Brass it makes me wish I could really play a brass instrument. Each one is an amazing musician!
As a french horn player, that was magnificant.
ogni volta che ascolto questo brano mi commuovo e il mio cuore è un turpidio di passione
grazie brass
This music is amazing.
This is amazing.. I wanna see something like this done with extremely professional (like these guys) saxophonists.
I am in a music theory class at my high school and our final is to compose a full brass quintet piece that will be played live. This is serving as great inspiration of what can be within reach! :)
Good luck! Hope you get a good grade!
Played an arrangement of this song my freshman year of marching band in high school. Such a beautiful piece!
3:11 is why I learned to play french horn. No other instrument can match the passion in that tone.
this brought me to tears the first three times i heard it. reminded me of how much i miss my dad. makes me think of maurice murphy as well...
Beautiful horn parts, like always!
One of my favorite recordings of all time! 📯
Helleberg is one of the standard mouthpieces for Tuba. Many of todays most popular tuba mouthpieces are modified from the Helleberg mouthpiece. Mike
These guys put on an incredible show. Just awesome.
@canadianbrass sounds fantastic. thanks a lot.
The sheet music is published and sold at the Canadian Brass online store. The title is under contemporary single quintets and titled simply, "Quintet".
this was so beautiful and the scenery went just wonderful with the whole song.
Absolutely breathtaking.
One of your best pieces!!I enjoy listen to this piece!!!Greetings from Greece!!!
can't believe this video is from 13 years ago! Superb
I love the Canadian Brass! They know how to play their instruments well!!!!!
The acoustics in the Candian wilderness are fantastic.
This had to be the most beautiful piece of music, That i've haven't heard in a long, thank you Canadian Brass =]
i could watch this every day for the rest of my life!
@Thetubaeddie Usually they make some tuba mouth pieces like that because they have a much larger mass, then say a trumpet. So they interact with temperature which in turn screw up intonation. So the plastic ones are used on sousas a lot and other outdoor playing.
i really want to play this, its so beautiful and paints a vivid picture in my mind. bravo, bravo
Just saw them tonight amazing show!
No, the people who disliked simply disliked the music. Disliking this piece has nothing to do with being able to play an instrument well.
You can definitely order a standard quintet version in their store under Canadian Brass Ensembles, Contemporary Single Quintet titles
Oh my god, Canadian brass on you youtube, i freaking love you guys, *not in the weird way though*, you guys are the best brass players ever
Nice feeling misic sound. Thanks so much.
going to see them this friday!
Quarry-side glassy water video be damned...The somber yet powerful melody was enough for me.
Great melody.fantastic keep it up.
a beautiful piece of music
Viva la música!! Viva Canadian Brass !
Que Música majestosa, não me canso de ouvi la.
정말 멋진 곡, 멋진 연주입니다.
카나디언 브라스 정말 좋습니다.
Not bad for a bluesman Stuart! This is wonderful guys, I just shared this brilliant video with friends here in Moss, Norway and they loved it!
What a wonderfully reverberant outdoor venue ;)
This was old, they now only play on Selmer/Conn instruments. The trumpets are now the Artisan strads, but they were Yammies as shown here. I like that they chose what model they want to play here vs. only playing the standard artisan.
Tears everywhere omg!!!

This is Glorious! I shall use this to spread the CB to those in my band!
これを聴くと自然を、家族を、大切にしたくなる。都会に疲れた時に聴くといい

Beautiful music!!!!!!!!
A gorgeous piece of music and the fantastic playing of the Canadian Brass. Wonderful to hear this!
beautiful
gorgeous truly incredible.
it depends on which sound you want. If you want a bright sounding sound get a shallow mouth piece, for darker get the opposite.

That's awesome!
Mike

Splendida interpretazione.
After 11 years, Chuck and Jeff are still going!
