How to Change Alternator on Toyota MR2 SW20 MKII

Step-by-step instructions for replacing the alternator on a Toyota MR2 SW20 MKII. It’s a tough job but very do-able with a little patience and elbow grease. The hard part is getting the old alternator out (tight squeeze) and the new alternator in.
Tools needed:
Sockets: 10mm, 12mm, 14 mm
Ratchet
Socket extensions
Jack
Jack stands

8:55 Its easier to refit the alternator to the holder if, while the holder is out, you punch back a few mm the washer/spacer on the holder (visible top right at 4:40). This makes space for the alternator to drop back into the right position.
The washer/spacer tightens back up when the bottom alternator bolt is tightened.
Much easier job than anticipated, definitely easier than other methods like removing the exhaust.

can you just sand the alternator down a couple millimeters so it fits easier and leave the bracket in?

I got a 91 turbo.... Alt. bracket bottom bolt is, 'BEHIND', the right-rear-axle-carrier. How did you get it off without pulling the axle?

where does the other ground wire go (square one) that sits next to that ground wire on the alternator on the harness, i removed this awhile ago and cant seem to remember, please help

Having trouble removing the alternator from the frame, I've removed the bolt and it swings left to right loose but it seems like it's stuck on a hinge and it won't budge (its quite stiff moving but still moving now, had to use a lot of force to get this out into the now swinging position)

Use a flat head to pry it out.

@@marconoriega774 I used a piece of metal to hit it out of place, it's a completely fused alternator. I was using a flat head to pry it out but it felt like I was going to snap the screw driver, so I just used a long piece of firm metal to smack it out of the hinge and boom done after like 50 hard hits

You probably got a 3sfe, because the one it the video is a 3sge. :)
