- In 1951 the city of Reno filed a petition with Washoe County to expand its borders passed what was called the old race track. This petition was denied!
Why?
Because there was already town there. You read that right in 1863 the town of Auburn (Auburn, Nevada) sat right on the corner of 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐝. & 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐞 𝐋𝐧?
⟴ What was this mysterious town?
⟴ Who were the people that lived there?
⟴ What secrets will be revealed
And…
⟴ How did the town of Auburn, Nevada disappear?
All these and more will be answered on this weeks map adventure as Harmony takes you on a fascinating journey to the forgotten town of Auburn!

I grew up there and I had no idea of this cool stuff. Thank you!
It’s crazy, no one seems to know about Auburn. When you walk on Wedekind there are still bricks scattered about from the English Mill on Wedekind
OMG. What a great story.
Drove up that street so many times. Never had a clue.
Thank you, I’m glad you liked it!
@@mapadventures It reminds me of how the little railroad town of Truckee grew until it swallowed up the community of Gateway. The "mouse hole" entrance to hwy 89, "the river route" to Tahoe City.
Few remember there was ever a tiny town called Gateway.
I love that you mentioned Truckee because am working on a video about Coburn's Station as we speak

Thank you. I’m working on a new video to be out Saturday 🤗
This video was really well done. 😀
Thank you!

this video is awesome!
Thank you!
Hey Harmony - I didn't know much about Auburn. Thanks and cheers! Steve - The Reno You Know.
😀 No one really seem to know anything about Auburn. It took over 9 months of hard research to learn what little I did. The much more popular and nearby Auburn California didn’t make researching easier either. Lol.
I was a volunteer at the Sparks Heritage Museum and one of the things I created for the museum was a signpost indicating the towns around the area in 1865. Auburn was the town that triggered the artwork I had done. Thanks for the information!
I love that. I would love to see your artwork, do they still have it there? I love that museum
This is amazing!!! You are a star!
No, good sir…You are a star!
Wow I grew up in Reno and never knew, so much history but a lot of old buildings have been tore down and history is erased 😢 Thank you for the video
I’m glad you liked it 😀. I hate it so much that Reno doesn’t seem to care about its history.
Cool, thanks for the info!
Of course, I’m glad you liked it 🤓
@@mapadventuresdo you know of any local history group meetups in town?
Great documentary can you do one of Georgetown?
l've in Reno, Nevada 😎
Me too
Happy new year! Have a blessed 2024. Happy to see you all back
Same to you!
What I wonder is WHO Col. Conner bought 1,000 acres of land from in 1861? There was a pretty violent war going on with the Paiute and Snake Indians at the time, over the land with a big massacre near Pyramid Lake. Nevada was a territory. I grew up in Sacramento County, and so I am very familiar with Auburn, in Placer County. But I never knew that there had also been an Auburn right over the mountain in Nevada. I should have known because I was in Reno so many times. Good job on the video... also, you're pretty cute. Keep it up.
That is a great question! Nevada needed a larger permanent population so it could elevate itself from territory to statehood. So war or not, they were selling as much land as they could (for cheap) to anyone who would promise to lay down some roots, and in this case, the town of Auburn.
Auburn, California being way more popular and pretty close in proximity made the research on this one incredibly hard. If you type in “Auburn Nevada” 20,000 newspaper articles come up and maybe 100 of them were for this Auburn.
And thank you for the compliment 💜
I’m assuming either the territorial or US govt?
Hitting The Road, authors Yourke, Morgaleous, Baker. The only book I've found on collecting road maps. Always on ebay. I've bought 5 copies for about $5 ea.
Nice
Hello from Auburn NY, it's a lot cooler in this Auburn, lol
Yes, but Auburn NV is a lot hotter lol ❤️
Needed a better mouse trap then that😎
I'm wondering where the graveyard was and is it still there?
It is still there. I’m going to be releasing a video all about it (& the city’s attempt to cover it up) in a couple of weeks
The town's name was lakes crossing Nevada not Reno you need to get this straight the town of Reno had not become yet it was still called lakes crossing Nevada
Actually the town was Fullers Crossing then Lake’s Crossing. I don’t refer to it as Reno until after I talk about the railroad coming through in 1868. If you watch the video you will see I am very clear on when Reno came to be.
Just came across your channel. It's great!! Well done! Thank you.
Thank you. I do them all myself, I’m just trying to keep history alive
