Takaokaya | How Futon is Made: Artisan Creates Ultimate Relaxation

This is a video to show how Takaokaya's Shiki futon mattress is made by our artisan in our workshop.
Shiki futon is a traditional Japanese mattress to sleep on. Takaokaya's handcrafted Shiki futon mattresses are handmade by our craftsmen, one at a time, with the users’ well-being in mind and relaxation during sleep.
The stuffing stage is one of the most important part of the production process. It not only determines the comfort level of the finished products, it also affects how the product can maintain its shape and fluffiness even with frequent use. Our skilled craftsmen take great care to ensure the longevity of the futons, so that even with the passing of time, each product is still as comfortable as the day it was made.
To make futon, we use many layers of cotton filling, piling layer after layer to the center of the futon repeatedly. It is because this part needs to bear the weight of the users and also to create ultimate relaxation when resting.
