The versatile and well-loved Toccata by Khachaturian- a perfect, showy competition piece for budding young piano prodigies/ speed demons. It sounds impressive, but most of it is sight-readable for a seasoned pianist, save for the slow B section, which has quite difficult polyrhythms. Khachaturian wrote this piece in 6 hours! It later became one of his most popular piano pieces. I hope you enjoy.
*Exactly! It's very easily performed by the pianist, but to people's ears, it sounds like one of the most difficult piano pieces in the world! I have performed it many times in my concerts - when I was an active soloist.*
One of my all-time favorite pieces! Love this video and watching your hands and finger work. My daughter played this piece in a recital after only two years of piano lessons. She never learned how to read music--she was too impatient--and she memorized everything she played. Sadly, after graduating from HS, college, work, marriage, and kids stopped her playing. I miss hearing her practice. Thanks for posting this incredible video. I love it!
Aww, thanks. Have you played this one before? It was something that I always heard other piano kids playing growing up but never got a chance to learn. I checked out your channel, by the way, really great job.
@@Eusebiuspiano Oh no. I am not nearly good enough, haha. The most difficult classical pieces I learned on the piano are probably a few of the famous Chopin Nocturnes, Schubert's Serenade, Debussy's Arabesques and Clair De Lune. Glad you like what I do!
The best execution I heard for this piece was actually my older brother playing it for his final concert at high school, you came very close to it. Hats off 👏
Well done ! This piece doesn't look easy to play, congrats ! :-) I'm glad to see different kind of music on your channel, it makes it even better, keep it going ! My friends also like what you're doing, compliments from them
Thank you very much. I always was curious to play it because growing up, I heard so many pianists play it. It came together surprisingly quickly and it is pretty fun.
Wow, after three years of lessons, it is pretty impressive to be playing this. You must have a great teacher in addition to being quite motivated/ talented.
@@Eusebiuspiano Thank you so much! Today is the third day I'm working on it and learnt most of it, I'm almost there, I just have to correctly learn the runs and that's it, it wasn't as hard as I initally thought it would be. Actually, my teacher isn't the greatest hahaha..., but in the other hand, my grandpa is a concert pianist. He's the one who teaches me interpretation and well, I work mostly by myself the pieces. Your interpretation is truly wonderful, although I prefer the B section a bit slower but that's just a preference hahaha ;).
@@alejandrom.4680 Yes, it's not too bad of a piece, getting the first page up to tempo with the rhythm is challenging, and the polyrhythms of the B section are confusing, but overall, the patterns are repetitive and easy to memorize/ sight-read (maybe slowly). Yes, looking back on the recording now, I would have liked to do the B section slower with more rubato, too. Piano pieces are always a work in progress! My friend inspired me to play this and I learned it in a couple months, but looking back, I feel I could've added more depth if I learned it for longer. Ahh... us pianists are perfections. lol. Good luck learning it!
That was awesome! You just earned a new subscriber! Also what app do you use to do the synthesia type thing? Did you attach LEDs to your piano for the light effect?
@@Eusebiuspiano one more question and I won't bother you no more! What do you use to record your piano because it sounds so crisp and beautiful! The software I use makes my piano sound like a robot is playing!
Nice crystal textures and very impressive playing! Aggressive, powerful and worth checking out!
Thank you, Flaming. I still am beyond star struck to have your feedback. Do you have any advice/suggestions for someone new to TH-cam/ piano videos?
