Tom's voice is still amazing. He tours all the time with his solo band, the #keiferband. And he takes amazing care of his voice. He had vocal chord paralysis, multiple times. Something that most singers never come back from. He's done it multiple times. He is a God damn inspiration to many!

One of the best ever. Cinderella got lumped into the “hairband” category but they were head and shoulders above most of those bands. Not only did they rock, NOBODY sounded like Tom. So glad I grew up in the 80’s and got to experience them in their hay day

    • @MrBilld75
      @MrBilld75 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yup, I was into the heavier stuff back in the day, but Cinderella was one of the few standout hair bands of the day, for sure and I listened to them and owned their stuff.

Tom Keifer is lucky to be singing. He had throat paralysis at one point. He under went MULTIPLE surgeries. This man is SO LUCKY to be singing still. Definitely one of my favorite singers. Cinderella was the first show I ever for me. I have been a fan since I was 14. This guy is amazing.

I have known about the existence of Cinderella all my life. And literally a month ago I accidentally watched a fragment from the famous hit Nobody's Fool and from the first seconds I realized that Tom Keifer is incredibly gifted and a superstar. Magnetism and talent. Look, eyes, impossible to tear yourself away. Unique vocal, musician. You can watch endlessly and admire. Now my favourite Tom Keifer and Cinderella 🔥🎸🌟

I believe you have Tom and Sebastian Bach mixed up - JBJ's parent's were at Mark Weiss (the photographer)'s wedding and that's where they noticed Sebastian and told Jon about him... Jon saw Cinderella playing a Philly club and had some A&R guys come to see them, that's how he helped them out. Anyway lol
Tom is an incredible vocalist, insane guitarist, and phenomenal frontman. He actually had vocal chord paresis and nine surgeries to be able to sing again... his perserverance is incredibly admirable!

Tom Keifer is an amazing vocalist N' songwriter. I've got a sticker on my school laptop at the front near the keyboard so I look at cinderella (N' poison) everytime I open it up. I know Tom had problems with his vocals N' luckily found someone who diagnosed him. I think I heard him say that when he was taking guitar lessons, his teacher also taught him to sing so it was a music lesson he took while not only learning guitar but singing N' learning songs.

I found your channel after my YT Music pulled up some suggestions for Poison, Skid Row, Cinderella, and so on. I wondered - just what *is* that gravely, nasally, vocal-fry-ish - called? Of course, I don't intend any insult by any of those adjectives, but I don't know the appropriate words to describe it.
It's like a blend between the power of Sebastian Bach & the nasally gravely quality of Brian Johnson. The crisp enunciation is something you don't notice with the music, too. This method shows how important that is to not get lost in the music.
Whatever it's called, it is so unusual in all the best ways & I love it! Thank you for your work in isolating it so it can shine as much as it should on its own! I look forward to checking out your other content!

Like you, I’m not a hundred... That story about how Jon’s Mom & Dad were at wedding, etc. Might have happened several times. I heard the exact same story, with Sebastian Bach at Kevin Debrow’s wedding. Sebastian& a young Zac Wylde performed with the band & Jon’s parents were there & thought Sebastian would be a good fit for Skid Row. Jon helped both band’s in the beginning of their careers. So who knows? Love Tom Keifer though!!!
I know he suffered some vocal issues some years back. Saw a video of him doing this song with Lzzy Hale, from Halestorm last year & he looked & sounded great. I heard a story about an interviewer asking him about having to play smaller venues, since the decline in popularity of his genre? Tom said, “I’d play a phone booth, if someone could book us a gig there.”
I remember laughing at his reply, but also feeling a sense of sadness that it had come to that. Cinderella is a great band & Tom’s vocals were unique & rough, tough & stood apart from other vocalists at the time. He rocks!!! 💪🤘

That weird harmony towards the end, is in the style of Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. He was probably more of an influence on Tom as far as his look and his stage costumes. But he also influenced him vocally as well. I agree with you 100%, this band and Tom Keifer in particular, were a very underrated group. It's a shame that they didn't continue on. I know that Tom Kiefer tours now just as himself. I'm not sure what happened to the rest of the band. I lost track of them after the '80s when all these bands just sort of vanished off the face of the Earth.

    FINALLY
edit: he tried to take care of his voice. he caught a virus that ended up disabling one of his vocal chords. Before he found out it was that he was having to force it. That's why Cinderella just disappeared. he couldn't actually sing. He found a guy that discovered this and he was able to re-learn how to sing basically. I seen him 3 times in the last 4 or 5 years and he sounds as good, if not better, than he did in this recording.

I'm sorry, but I hear it differently. He makes me cringe now with his old man type waver. Yes he still has his epic range at times, but a lot of times he talks and then allows the audience to carry many parts of the song. Klaus Meine of Scorpions does that. It gives them a needed break from their harder singing parts. And I may not be a Ken Tamplin, but I have been singing my whole life and feel I have a decent ear. Tom just doesn't sound very good anymore. IMHO. Don't kill me. lol

I've seen Cinderella live numerous times! Love them! I believe Tom blew out his vocal chords at least once and had surgery to repair his throat. I always wondered if that caused some of the raspiness in his voice.
Anyway thank you Ken for another interesting and entertaining video.

Just heard him the other day on a video and although he doesn't hit those high raspy notes as often as back in the day, he still has it and still tries. And he does still do it in the most important times in the songs, when it counts and it sounds relatively the same.

I don't know why they keep saying underated. When Cinderella took the stage up to lower mid 90's the band blew people away from start to finish. Like a movie you didn't want to end to millions of people they were that great in their talents.

What an excellent analysis! Amazing to have these isolated vocal tracks. I'll be watching every one of those videos. The adversarial relationship between metal, hair-bands, and grunge needs to be put to rest. You can pick individual performers out of each genre and they're all doing the exact same thing, especially the singers. I think us gen-xers, under the influence of the grunge scene were settling into a darker, flat-out depressive, state of mind. We had also already lived through the hair band era. I know I'm not alone in loving all of them and much more. We grew up listening to absolutely everything! I had a girlfriend in the mid 90's who chided me for listening to Motley Crue! They were decidedly un-hip in her opinion. I mean it's hard to listen to Vince Neil these days, but in the mid 90's? It was some awesome track off of Shout at the Devil or Too Fast for Love too. It actually got to me. But, I didn't stop playing the Crue or anything else. unless I got sick of it. Now, I'm buying up my "childhood" via CDs and even cassettes! Twisted Sister, Cinderella, Soundgarden, Tool, Ozzy and on and on. I appreciate the gems like Cinderella now, far more than I ever did at the time.

I literally can’t stand “hair metal”, but I remember this band being one of the few bands that I felt had real talent. I was kinda young in that era, so I was a teen during the 90s. I remember all this stuff in the 80s though. The older kids in my brother and cousin’s age bracket loved all these hard rock bands with the hair, synths, Floyd Rose-type guitars, and tight pants.

It is unbelievable to hear him from 2008 till now. I can hear from back then to now how his voice has really gotten better. I've seen Cinderella, and I've seen his new band in person 3 ft away.
