Thanks for visiting the Boswell Museum in Leedey, Oklahoma. My Dad was born in Leedey in 1924 and lived there until 1937 when my Grandparents, He, and his 2 younger siblings moved to Southern California. I travel back to Leedey, from California, for a family get together each year and enjoy visiting the museum there. It is great that they honor Darla Hood there.

It's amazing some of the stories about the rascals! Leonard Maltin's book is, in my opinion, the definitive book on the rascals!
Many of the children died very young! Chubby died at 19 of some rare disease, he was like 97 lbs at time of death! Alfalfa was shot by his business partner when he refused to reimburse Alfalfa for the return of his partner's favorite hunting dog! In fact Alfalfa's brother, Harold the kid that played all the instruments while Alfalfa sang also committed suicide after he killed a customer he was arguing with! He was an appliance repairman! Scottie Becket, the kid who wore his ball cap sideways, was beaten to death and died in the emergency room! Weaser was in the air force and died in a training accident!! The irony of it all was that
Hal Roach, the owner of the Hal Roach Studios, died at the ripe old age of 100! In fact the most famous director of the studio was
Bob McGowan. His father was murdered by a gang of street kids when Bob was only five, and yet he worked with kids his whole life! I'm Andy not Annmarie

Jordan, thank you for the jaunt through Leedy and into the Boswell Museum. You are right, at least they are remembering Darla in some ways, good for them!
I collect old films, and recently Classic Flix have been doing really excellent restorations like have never before been available of The Little Rascals shorts from camera negatives, and releasing on Blu-ray disc sets. The next release contains the shorts when Darla made her debut, and will be released on Aplril 5th: "The Little Rascals: The Classic Flix Restorations, Volume 5" - I already own Volume 4, and Volume 5 is on preorder.

It really is too bad there isn't more of her here in the museum and especially so considering how big she was. That advertisement of businesses is actually a curtain from a stage. It might have been in a theater where it showed some of her Our Gang films, it also could have been in an opera house or school. I always enjoy the art that is on them.

The museum was pretty interesting, even though they didn't have too much to offer, but being born above was pretty neat. Thanks, Jordan. As always, you do such a great job telling any story. I loved the Little Rascals as,a child. Spanky, Darla, Stymie and Buckwheat were my favorites. I always though Darla had more talent than Shirley Temple. This is so special Jordan. There's a great interview with Tom Snyder with Stymie. Darla, Spanky, and Buckwheat. Buckwheat and Darla died within a year or so of the interview.

Ty for taking us along. Love those small town Museums, interesting/different very local items. Loved the vlog, watched them as a kid with my sister and always loved their antics..The word that comes to mind when you stated at age and being able to move to NYC to pursue this is Destiny. That is so amazing to see this in a child! Too bad the museum didn't raise any funds and open the upstairs to show off where they lived as family and try to get personal items. Love the benches! Very interesting and such a tragic end to a very talented actress. I never knew she sang and was signed. ;) Safe trekking out there.

Thanks, Jordan. Love looking at old and collectible items and hearing about what happened to people we admired in the past. Many of us who grew up in the 50s watched episodes of OUR GANG on local TV stations. It was interesting hearing about Darla's career prior to OUR GANG and afterwards. How sad her life was cut short through medical negligence. I'll have to check out the other video you did on her burial place. Hope Jah got over his ailment quickly and well. Give him a hug from me.

Back in the early 1960s to early 1970s, my mom worked for Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles. In 1970 for Christmas my parents bought me a 12" B/W TV. It had VHS and UHF on it, UHF via a ring antenna on the back, and rabbit ears on top for VHF. She told me that Kaiser had its own TV station. Channel 52 UHF. I used to watch Kimba the White Lion, Speed Racer, Little Rascals, and Our Gang on it. In the early 1970s, Darla Hood was being interviewed on one of the local talk shows I was watching and talking about the shorts and why the name they had for her in the films "Cookie" was never used. Seems the kids could not get a grasp of the "Cookie" name and kept calling her by her real name Darla. The Director gave up and they stuck with calling her by her real name. Many times her daughter would bring home friends from school and they knew he mother was Darla from the Our Gang shorts. Her daughter would introduce her mother as Darla Hood and the friends were expecting a little girl from the movies, not a full-grown woman and mother. I was in the USAF in Germany when I heard she had died. I was very sad to hear how young she was when she passed. The news at that time said she died in surgery but not of why. Thanks, Jordan for the full story.

It weird to think she was just a little younger than my Grandma, so my Grandmother probably grew up watching some of the our gang shows. They were pretty poor back then, so maybe not, she never mentioned it that I can recall. What I would give to have another chance to have a chat with her and find out, she was my favorite person ever!!!
Thank you, Jordan, for driving all that way, you made it very informative! 🌼

I enjoyed watch the Little Rascals growing up. I had a friend and she was an extra throughout the show. I don’t think she speaking parts. She went on to be a pilot around 19 or 20 I know she was really young and went into the military. In those years it was almost unheard of a woman pilot. She did not fly in the military of course.
