Grew up in this juvenile hall 2006-2013. Glad to say I’m now on parole and still trapped in the system. Used to get contraband from guards and even knew a couple of them messing around with some of the other kids

Is a juvenile Justice detention officer different from a juvenile correctional officer?

I recently visited a juvenile Justice center and spoke with an administrator who actually touched on this.. There is no difference, but the word detention is starting to get phased out as the juvenile system has become more rehabilitation based oppose to detention based. The word ‘corrections’ is seen as a softer word whereas detention is more old school.

Although I don't work in either field but I've learned alot from people who do back when I was career exploring and I'm convinced that a detention center is a jail where people are taken to await their trial and stay if they're serving a less than one year sentence whereas a correctional facility is a prison where people go to serve their one or more year sentences. Chances are the titles are based on which type of facility they're working in.

Why are only female officers shown? Do male officers work with female offenders? Can male officers frisk females like the female officer in the video is doing with the male inmate/offender? If the answer is no, then I see a problem with that. The video portrays this as such a positive thing, but double standards in how male/female offenders are treated breed disrespect and resentment. I would suppose there might be instances where the dignity and privacy of these male offenders is violated by these female officers, while I doubt the reverse is true with female offenders, I see this as unfair and problematic and not a positive thing as is being portrayed here.

Definitely found this strange, at my facility searches are ALWAYS conducted by the same-sex and normally they try to keep males with male dorms if staffing allows.

they are not all good. A family member of mine was there and said there was 2 female officers that would click up with other female inmates and "walk away" so they could fight with other inmates. Those officers would laugh at the victim after the fact. She did also talk about some of the officers that were nice and professional. But the system needs to keep a better eye on their officers.

Locking up little kids just isn't right, you know? They're still learning about the world and making mistakes is part of growing up. When you throw a child in jail, you take away their chance to learn from those mistakes in a healthy way. Instead of learning how to do better, they're just learning how to survive in a place that's way too harsh for someone their age. Plus, it can mess with their heads and make it even harder for them to find a good path in life later on. There’s gotta be a better way to help them learn and grow without throwing away their potential.
