Well, yeah, POCUS is definitely a game changer in EM without a doubt. Several of the barriers that we still see is the invisible wall where radiology will not use our images, or even weigh in on them. As for the educational process, too many of the US courses will talk you to death rather than spend 70% of the time or better, having students do scanning on multiple models. The more time to scan, the more time to refine the technique, the more time to correlate the image with the anatomy and pathophysiology, the better. Another block can be the availability of consistent US devices for use. My scanning really improved when I bought my own handheld devices (CL, L, and PA probes). The more you scan, the better you get, if you keep refining your techniques, however, if you have lousy technique and continue to practice bad techniques, you do not advance your skill set.
How is the training done on your end? I am a Resident in Uganda and I find that it may be pretty hard to have the same while a resident. Planing to take a short course after residence
