I recently heard Stephen Freeman on Jonathan Pageau's podcast. This guy is the real deal. What really hooks me is how he just casually says incredibly profound things. He just tosses them out to us and moves on.
He’s such a real man as well. I got to talk privately with him a few months ago when he visited a conference in SC. He’s very down to earth and funny!!
I am 76 heading for 77 yrs old, I have so far out-live my mom, dad, step-dad and 1 brother, with 2 older siblings still living....I am so grateful for the life that God has given me because for this Orthodox christian, the Kingdom is sooo near with its foretaste of it in the Body and Blood of our Lord....His resurrected live I can taste and know now.

Have never heard Father before. Am amazed at what i am watching.. Yes, the NAVE is a cry room, as he is saying now. I have sent this to many friends as my husband and i watch. EVERY word has been a blessing. We understand about the limiting of choices as we get older.. (That may be a blessing. Fewer complications.) That the ORTHODOX CHURCH began when GOD said, "LET THERE BE LIGHT.", is right, true, amazingly potent. I am sad to see this presentation come to an end...
This is my favorite lecture on TH-cam, and I've listened to hundreds of hours worth, Orthodox and non. I've listened to this many times, and keep coming back; I can't believe I still find more to digest upon every return. Thank God for technology which can be used in an edifying, soul-saving way...

I do think we can bring order to the world a little bit. Too much chaos is unbearable. Peacemaking is making things better. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. With educating. Preaching a sermon is trying to make things better perhaps, through education?
If there were no chooses then salvation would be pointless. A Muslim friend of mine said that our lives are a written script and those who were born of a certain cast are enslaved to that cast. There is a lot of wisdom in what you say and we are creatures carrying our ancestors DNA but in essence salvation is a gift of being conscious of your fellow man and stretching out your hand thereby saving others. We are free once we realise that we share the cup of death and we are liberating from death knowing that we can eat and drink the body and blood of our saviour.
Father, what you said about the Renaissance is not accurate. The Renaissance was an interest and a rebirth of classical Greek and Roman culture. The Renaissance has never claimed to invent learning or education, to discredit other civilized cultures of antiquity like Byzantium. The innovations of the Renaissance enriched areas such as painting by adding perspective and describing form, through the laws of how light falls on objects, which weren't clearly understood until such Masters as DaVinci and Brunelleschi. I'm not sure where you heard that, but it is not correct. The Renaissance has never claimed to invent anything it did not actually innovate. I think this is easily seen when comparing art, architecture, and anatomy from the societies that came before it. Best.
I am sorry to criticize, Priest Freeman, but Abraham Maslow, who investigated and practically coined the term "self-actualization", was not studying an article of consumption, but a personality trait. Genuine self-actualizers, he discovered, had a moral conscience which was difficult to fool, and were generally sincere, rational, quiet and very private people.
This is false. Maslow was one of the original self-help gurus that attempted to synergize human pop-psychology with consumeristic/industrial culture. Most personality tests were developed out of a need to help corporations organize their profit-seeking body. He oversaw the test-development of factories that had as their theory of human behavior the hierarchy of needs. After a short time, these experiments failed.
Gender is a choice but sex (male or female) is not. I encourage the politically UNcorrect identification a person a being one sex or another as a creature including humans - “God created man in his image … male and female he created them”. (Genesis 1:27 (ESV)) I make not a criticism but inject a thought pre-dating year 2000

Contrary what that guy says, Fr. Stephen Freeman is a faithful and inspiring orthodox christian, who is a great teacher of the holy traditions of the church, and an amazing speaker. I thank God for his wonderful talks and his blog, which have helped me and others alot. Glory to God!
The nave is the cry room, you are absolutely correct. The Orthodox Church being the last traditional form of Christianity that has been passed along to us is also absolutely true. The fall of the RC Church, of course in 1054, but the fall of its traditional western rite liturgy has caused the west to collapse. As Russia has been restoring its faith, we can only hope that the west retuns to orthodoxy and the world will have its two lungs restored.
I am new to the messages of this modern day prophet of the Ortodox Church and you can be sure that I will make it a point to listen to more of his inspiring messages.
I find it interesting that in the beginning of the talk, they reference how Fr. Left the Episcopal church, and they mention snakes when talking about his church planting in Appalachia. , (any Biblical Christian like myself, a former Episcopalian, will be able to understand his decision to leave). My father also left the Episcopal church, and described to me his difficulty in finding a church to attend. ( Neither of us was familiar with the Orthodox church at that time, or we probably would have converted to that). He was born and raised in the Northeast, and so was unprepared for what he encountered when he moved down South. He told me, " I would find a new church and for a few Sundays everything would seem great. The music was appropriate, the sermons were doctrinally and biblically correct; then one Sunday you arrive and realize, Uh oh, It's Snake Juggling Sunday!!! " And then it's back to the beginning. He never could find a church where he lived that didn't have some bizarre rituals to which they were totally committed; although snake juggling seemed the most common. The church might be normal in all other respects, but eventually they always expected you to handle snakes.
Is there a difference between the old believer orthodox church and say what the main clergy teaches today? I only ask because of the wonderful lady Agafia in rural Russia ran because of persecution back in the 1920s.
@@christinesmyth7785 Our differences with the Old Believers unfortunately are entirely reconcilable differences, mostly political/jurisdictional. Most educated Eastern Orthodox view the Old Believers in a positive brotherly light, much more than say the Copts/Oriental Orthodox where there are actual theological errors. It's an unfortunate rift in our Church that we pray for healing, in God's time.

Have some self-awareness at least and a better knowledge of history. The mess in the mideast began after WW1? You're kidding, right? Most of the people watching this video or sitting in that room had ancestors who were most likely extremely impoverished. We wouldn't be here, or have the luxury of learning about Orthodoxy if it weren't for people trying to fix things. I could go on and on, but hopefully people who are seeking out answers to life's many questions won't be duped into thinking that they just need to become a poor, uneducated member of their local Orthodox church to finally be "human".
