This is a lovely place to visit, and if you take one of the little steamers out it makes for a very pleasant day out. The formal gardens are like a miniature Versailles and while there's a 'no photo' policy inside the palace, the guides are more than happy to discuss the history with you. We even managed to see the Changing of the Guard and get a private tour while we were there. A must when in Stockholm!
Thanks for reminding me about the theatre. I saw an opera there in 2007. That little theatre is legendary in the opera world. It was built by Swedish King Gustav III, who some Swedes claim was assassinated for being gay. Verdi wrote his opera "A Masked Ball" about this event. The opera was originally titled "Gustavo III", but was changed due to censorship.
