The Nutcracker (Suite) has carved out a place of choice among the repertoire of all the major ballet companies. Coming from a fantastic tale by Hoffmann, it continues to make young and old alike dream. Tchaikovsky establishes himself as first of roped from the singular squad of composers at the origin of the rise of Russian ballet. Tchaikovsky composed three great ballets (Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker) considered to be the most beautiful of the 19th century, and which still form the basis of the repertoire of all classical ballet companies today. His trilogy also marked the beginning of an aesthetic renewal in the interpretation of dance, a renewal which, thanks in particular to the contributions of Rimsky-Korsakov, Khachaturian, Stravinsky and Prokofiev, would give Russian ballets first place in the world. The story of « The Nutcracker » set to music by Tchaikovsky is inspired by the adaptation by the French writer Alexandre Dumas because the origin of the tale is German. Clara, a little girl who, after receiving a pretty nutcracker with a human head as a gift, has a dream. During it, and after a fight against the mouse king, the nutcracker transforms into a prince, with whom the little girl takes a journey to mystical lands. This thin framework generates a series of dances as brief as they are charming, of an infinity of characters, but it certainly equals them in terms of melodic imagination as well as the richness harmonic and mastery orchestral. Love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence. Merry Holy Christmas ! *Lucien*
