Have had this set for 6 yrs. My favorite. I made a wind screen out of an aluminum oven liner from the dollar store. Its height is just above the top of the pot stand. This height allows the handles to clear the top of the wind screen which in turn keep the handles cool. I place it around the pot stand then insert it into the larger pot where it nests nicely for storage/carry .I have saved the yellow bottles of Heat after using it for fuel and refill them with denatured alcohol. They are crush proof and the long neck makes it virtually impossible to leak. Two tips....you can use disposable aluminum pie tins ( 5 inch diam) on top of the heating pot of water to simultaneously heat another food item ie beans, soup ect.. Also, you can place two flat metal skewers over the top of the pot stand to cook w/an alternate cook pot other than the two that come w/the set. I use a small 5in. in diameter stainless grill plate and it works great. ps...two Esbit tabs will fit inside of the alcohol stove for emergencies!
Sorry for taking so long to respond back , I appreciate the tips , I will keep them in mind and give them a try sometime . I have made my own Wind Screen now. I just took a piece of cardboard about the same height as the stand (like you said) and then wrapped it in tin foil. Seems to work pretty good. Then as you said it nest nicely down inside for storage. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have this same set and it works very well BUT patience is key when using it. You will be amazed how much faster it will boil if you do not remove the lid
BAZZinator , I have had more time to cook with it now and I agree , also using a wind break on windy days does help it heat faster . I’m wanting to try to Fuel cubes now and see how they do , Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Did you "prime" the spirit burner before the test by letting it burn for between 10-15 minutes? I only ask because in windy and chilly conditions I have had much faster cook times with the same unit, though admittedly I always have a sheet of aluminum foil along to act as a wind screen. That "primering" burn makes a big difference as it helps to clear out any debris that may be in the"jets" and the like.
John , This was my first attempt at using the Esbit Burner . Now that I have a little more experience using it I do realize that using a wind block helps a great deal . Also it would have helped if I would have left the lid on it while heating instead of taking it off all the time . But that is what my channel is about sharing what I learn with everyone . Thank you for watching & Commenting
Sorry for the late reply . I have just seen your comment . It doesn't heat as well in strong winds . It will burn , but use more fuel and take longer to heat your food or water . I have seen alot of people (including myself) use some sort of shield or barrier around the stove when it is windy . That will help alot . Thanks for watching . Sorry for the late reply
Sorry , just seen your comment ....... As far as soot on the bottom of the pot , No there was none. I was amazed how clean the denatured alcohol burns ........ Thanks for watching.........Sorry it took so long to answer you back......I'm still new to the TH-cam thing
Yes , That is true . I do use Denatured Alcohol. I am always amazed how well it burns and how there is no soot or smoke . I always have a hard time telling if it is lit or not because the flame is very hard to see due to it burning so cleanly. Thanks for watching & commenting 👍

Hello.
Did you have much soot build up on the bottom of your pot at end?
