My cat did something similar. We had a pair of brothers from the same litter, but then we lost one to a facial tumour. Before we lost him, his brother had been very shy and would run away from us, but cuddle with the cat we post. But after we lost that cat, the antisocial one got considerably more cuddly, and would actually sleep with my mother. I suspected that even if 'lonely' wasn't the word for it, he did get all of the social interaction he needed or wanted from his brother, and so he started looking to us for social interaction, and in the end found that we weren't so bad, especially when we have him food and pets. He lasted almost another ten years, and was almost 19 when he finally passed. He was a crotchety old jerk, but we loved him.
The two cats I had as a kid eventually when to my older brother when we became adults, so I didn't see their passing. When I asked my brother how the change in behaviors in the younger one after the passing of the older one(she passed at the vet's), he said that for a moment, she'd ask for him to random doors. He had the impression she tought the other one was just hiding somewhere. (They weren't friends, they tolerated each other)
I really wish this channel was more popular. You teach a respect and perspective for animals that I don't see very often. I hope Serafina continues to do well.
Thank you once again for being so honest and forthright about the ups and downs of life at Animal Wonders. The way everyone at the facility truly loves, cares about, and even worries for these animals shows in every thoughtful moment of every video. It's INCREDIBLY valuable to see. Thank you!
This means so much to me! Thank you very much! My grown up child is disabled and chronically ill and I had to get used to the idea that his life will be somewhat shorter. With time I really learned to look at things from the other side and appreciate the situation now and be grateful for everything we experience and have and not resent that it will not last. Therefore to see you all take so well care of ill and disabled animals and give them the best life possible under the circumstances, grieve their dying and continue living with grateful and fond memories - it means personally a lot to me! Stay well!
It is definitely saddening to hear that an animal friend passed away, especially when they had such a bond with Sera the fox. I'm at least happy to see Sera lean in for that nose boop at 0:10 !
I love foxes, they're such curious animals. I watched one cross the ice to go across a pond one time, just slowly putting one paw in front of the other and feeling the ice and listening. You could see the focus. Then it slowly started backing away, knowing the pond I know that was a spot with deeper water so it was less frozen - I surmise the fox knew the ice wasn't as deep and felt or heard something. They're my 3rd favorite animal after falcons and raccoons. I'm glad Sera is making a new normal after Cas's death. While they might not have human emotions, it doesn't mean that their animal emotions are all that dissimilar to what humans have - after all humans are just an evolved primate and are animals.
Also Jessi! I totally fell in love with this channel maybe two three years ago, when I first discovered this, everything from the intro music and your wonderful optimistic presentations and real encounters with my favourite creatures on earth ... just warms my heart and makes it flutter each time! Thanks for keeping at this my love and support goes to you and your fam to continue! ❤️
Oh, my gosh, Jessi. I just sobbed through this one, I'm not even sure quite why. Lot of tears these last twelve months... I bet I know where the tissues from that box you gave Sera went. As always, thank you for all you do.
I do really appreciate that comment about how we shouldn't project our human emotions on animals, especially when they're not of the domesticated kind - I think we humans naturally tend to do this and to some degree it is a sign of empathy, but I also believe it is a little narrow minded.
Adjusting to changes like the loss of a bonded cohabitant can be challenging. Shame things didn't turn out the way we'd like, but Seraphina appears to be adjusting well and looking good and thats whats important. Perhaps one day another fox can be matched, but she looks like she will be just fine if it never happens. She certainly did a fantastic job with her den, grade A digging there! I bet she had a lot of fun doing that.
I'm glad you made that comment to you made about putting human emotions on an animal like Seraphina. I like to think I'm pretty in tune with how my cats and dogs are feeling, and given the same signals I think I would have assumed that they were "lonely". I hadn't even thought that maybe the animal would be "enjoying the single life"! Thanks for educating me there. And I'm so sorry to hear about Ariel. I took in a stray kitten with roundworms who died at two months old. A loss is always a loss, but it can be particularly painful when it's sudden and unexpected. A surprise recovery followed by losing her... I know what that is like. Much love to all of you
Seraphina's cross-species relationship with Cass was really cute. Yes, they are mostly solitary and hunt alone, but they do pair-bond with their mates. However, in the wild, a red fox would never tolerate a fox of a different species in their territory. Due to climate change, the red foxes are moving into the arctic and killing and chasing away the arctic foxes. And red foxes are bigger and stronger than arctic foxes, and they will kill them and their kits to reduce their competition. It'ts pretty sad. Source: www.jstor.org/stable/40510856?seq=1
It's so good of you to explain how things are even if they are sad or hard. I think watching Seraphina immediately rip apart the tissue box to get to the egg was the perfect ending for now :) I was laughing. As life changes, relationships change. Maybe she doesn't need another fox in her life- she has gotten the chance to develop her relationship with you and that may be good enough. If we lose someone, we don't go out and try to replace them. Grief is different for everyone, and we just feel it out as we go.
I hope Sarafina continues to be healthy & happy! It's always sad to lose a lifelong companion, no matter what species. I'm glad to see she's receiving more attention and enrichment!💕🦊💕
We had a similar thing with our rescue dog Mila. We thought maybe a friend would be good for her but she told us pretty quickly she didn't like the new friend. It's a little sad because we wanted to rescue another dog and we don't want Mila to be alone when we go out but also we are happy to give all the loving she wants
Seraphina opens packages the way I do...if the "tear here" doesn't work, the only choice is shred the whole thing - LOL! Love and hugs to our dear fox 💕
Glad to see she's doing well. Is this the first time you've mentioned Ariel on the channel? I'm hoping I didn't miss a video on accident. I'm wondering how you dispose of deceased animals? Do you take them to your vet.
We haven't shared Ariel publicly before. We were planning a wonderful episode introducing her that was supposed to be filled with hope and joy. When she passed away, it was just too painful for us to include everyone else in our grief. But after some time to heal we felt that we still wanted to share her story, however short it was. So we settled on including her in the bigger story of the journey of all the foxes we've cared for over the years. She's also featured in our 2021 calendar ❤ As for her body, we chose to have it frozen so we can have a professional preserve her pelt. We hope that she can contribute to education even though her life has come to an end. We do this for some animals that pass, others are donated to museums, and others are cremated by our veterinarian or carefully and legally buried.
@@animalwondersmontana Thank you for still sharing her with us. I understand the grief and pain of sudden loss. I missed out on the calendar - bummer. Perhaps next year! Sometimes I wonder what to do when a pet of mine passes. A snake passed a few months ago. Thank you for the thorough reply. I always look forward to Thursdays.
Perhaps you could contact and do a crossover with Save-a-Fox when the time comes to have more ambassador foxes. Her foxes are well socialized and well known to her viewers. You might both get some new subscribers from it.

Hi! I'm dutch myself and I recognized the logo as well! But no, the logo of AnimalWonders and Apenheul is not related. It is actually a 'Nazca line' drawing from south america. You can look it up on google by searching for 'monkey nazca lines' or here is a link to the wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazca_Lines Hope this helps!
My deepest condolences. I know its part of life but still hard. In future id love to help out at a rescue or sanctuary. Only thing i worry is i get super emotional if thier abused or pass away. Bless you for all the work you do. 💝🙋♀️⚘
Hey Jessie please make a video on using desired character to have different colour variations in different in animals like lutino and albino mutations in cockatiel...
could a red or arctic fox potentially live with a fennec fox? the fennec foxes are more inclined to be in a group so im curious if the personalities would clash or the climate differences would be too different to thrive? thank you for all you do for your animals :)
Hi my name is Savannah I am 9 and live in Texas. I have a rabbit named Brownie. But I was just woundering what your wish list is for your animals. My mommy said that I could give this information.I said that so I don't freak you out.:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) And I am soooooooooooo sad that the fox died. Any time somebody talks about animals dieing it makes me want to cry. :(
I hope your power is back on soon! We've had a few power outages this winter that were difficult, but we're not dealing with the same level of travesty that's happening in the southern states right now. Sending our best wishes to you ❤
I’m very sorry. I have had this happen to me when I was young with dogs but my dad worded it so it wasn’t. They went to one of those places were they gave the animal some sort of shot to make them die “peacefully”. And my five year old brain thought he was telling the truth. And now I know... I’m very sorry about what happened to your fox.
This is why I Can't work with animals. I would have loved being a vet, but I can't stand seeing animals in pain. That's why I stuck with the medical field.

Sera's like, "Fish the egg out of this hole? NAH, I'll just rip it to shreds. Easy!" Thanks for all the wonderful, informative content, as usual!
Great story. You are a Human FOX, lovely vibrant voice! Enjoying your clips. Thanks.

Ups and downs, for sure! Thank you for taking such good care of Seraphina and all the other animals!
I'm glad to hear that she is doing ok after the lost of Cas! I loved the pictures of them when they were younger as well

I hope Sarafina continues to be healthy & happy! It's always sad to lose a lifelong companion, no matter what species. I'm glad to see she's receiving more attention and enrichment!💕🦊💕

Egg.”

an artic fox in Texas? seems kinda mean with the heat they have there
They probably must air conditioning, just like animal wonders has heating... Otherwise we would get parrot popsicles in winter lol
