This is how he is behind the scenes. Extremely focused and disciplined. He's the real dedicated, passionate and convicted artist. Some think Hagar was just because the subject matter had to do with "serious" topics like love and relationships or whatever. But those were Valentines. Dave sang about cartoonish, vaudeville type of topics but it's the spirit that really matters. There's an urgency and a purpose to the performance.
25:10 This is great - once again, a fantastic example of what a world class man that Dave is. I’ve alway loved how he’d incorporated all of his training into his stage performances - it was like the first time I saw him open a VH show with that 20’ high split all done perfectly in the smoke, haze and stage lighting - another prime example of why DLR is CLEARLY the absolute best front man, of any band, anywhere in the world - ever !!! An incredible person who has taken us into his home, shared, demonstrated and explained his passions to us authentically, seriously and honestly!!! Only on “The Roth Show”... Thank you Dave 👍
I set up for you sir and you were super nice and thanked everyone!!! You and billy idol are the only 2 people who thanked the crew for the help and work and gave us shirts and i of course got a set of drum sticks each show I worked!! I have bags of stuff!! I thank you for not being a asshole and it was a great time!!! You keep rocking!!💯🔨🏈🎼👍🏻🍀💡❤️🙏🇺🇸✨💎🐟
What a great, informative and intelligent instructor. Such a calming voice too, almost makes me want to take a nap ☺️ he really REALLY should have made more of these videos.
The spirit has it's feet on dave's ground.or dave's ground is his feet.or it's a feat that Dave is still standing on his feet. I'm lost .what just happened?
I remember all the splits in mid air and spinning round house kicks on stage They were impressive back then and knowing Dave was a student all these years makes it that much better. 🗡
A lot of folks don’t understand Mr Roth,I do.He is very intelligent and interesting,he understands show biz,and how to be upfront and in your face, just like you all love, but won’t admit it.
After having been watching the Roth Show since you started posting, I have more respect for you out side of music than I ever did before. Thank you for sharing Dave,YOU, are the interesting man in the world. Cheers, and keep the Roth Show coming!
He's always full of energy and that's good, probably he's not the type of guy hardly ever sits around long enough to relax. Something like what Bruce Lee had done, always training himself and exercise every day when he was alive. Thank you David for sharing and taking time out of your busy day, God bless my friend.
Love DLR, he’s so much more than an amazing bluesman, vocalist, lyricist and performer. He really has his hand in so many different art-forms and training techniques. I remember his Skyscraper days were full of him rock climbing. Wonder if he still does that?!! 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I have watched VH and DLR since I was a wee lad in the late 70's. What makes Dave so captivating and interesting is how he constantly transforms into different personas. He switches from Lead Singer to reckless woman starved animal to martial art enthusiast to what ever he feels like doing. He changes so often and so radically yet he still just Dave through all the transformations. Seeing the more serious/mature Dave like in this video is refreshing.
Thanks Dave for sharing this and for all the great years of music. Excellent to watch a fellow student of the arts in action. Also..you Sir are the best, greatest, most awesome Front man EVER!!! All respect
Dave is a true renaissance man. His schtick as lead singer of Van Halen is obviously just a very small facet of who he is. “Where is David Lee Roth? We need him more than ever now.” Boy, since the passing of our hero Edward Van Halen, those words really ring true.
This is really actually quite beautiful. As an engineer I really appreciate the efficiency of movement. It really boils down to getting the most power out of the most minimal of movement. I have to say I've been a fan since 1978 and would have enjoyed knowing this side of you Dave, a long time ago. And oddly; I'd like to add that this kinda equates back to the way Eddie plays guitar... He found the way to make the sounds he wanted with a minimum of gear. You were meant to be together.
Good to see another side to him that most people probably didn’t know. This might explain his acrobatics on stage which were phenomenal. So, he actually has a much deeper side and displays an intellect and depth of character that is surprising and impressive. Good luck, Dave
I've always wondered Roth's discipline? Mine being Filipino and Russian systema I'm different, but I love what he does not to mention my first style was also Korean as I believe his is? Many think Mr. Roth is a big mouth.... After watching a few of his videos I would say he is a very humble and respectable man.
David Lee Roth is an incredibly interesting person. Thank you for letting your fans and admirers have a glimpse into your life, I have a degree in Asian Studies and Dave's videos have been a lot of fun as well as very educational. Keep up the great work.
It's undeniable that he has tread an interesting path in life which some people might find interesting. Sure, I wince at certain segments but I enjoyed learning about his passions (martial arts, dog herding and exotic travel). As I stated earlier, DLR = schtick. You're bent out of shape over his ego yet he spent several years on the streets of NYC as a paramedic; pretty humble for a "rock star". Chill out and peace.
The more that I learn about David Lee Roth's activities outside of Rock & Roll. His education as a licensed Emergency Medical Technician and as an Iaido practicioner. The more respect I have for him. This man really has a lot of knowledge and depth.Tom Cruise played at being a Samurai, Looks like Mr. Roth actually is.
This is an excellent illustration of the discipline Iaido requires. Very impressive and I can see how this helped facilitate David Lee's stage performance and presence. Not that I know much about it but I will be learning more after watching this.
Thank you for allowing us into your home! This video was extremely informative and entertaining. But mostly, this video reinforced the "sonchou" respect 尊敬 we have for you Sir !
Very enjoyable video. It’s fascinating to see David Lee Roth in a calm, controlled, disciplined fashion doing something. I’m sure brings him joy and mental and physical benefits. Probably not many rock ‘n’ roll stars would do something like this, and it keeps them in shape.
I shot this episode for Dave damn near 20 years ago. Just now seeing this for the first time. Also his foyer tour in Episode 5. We also shot Dave on his rock climbing wall surrounding his tennis court that he converted into a sandy beach. And interesting day to say the least
Only recently found these wonderful DLR videos. And as a koryu bujutsu practitioner (Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū (天真正伝香取神道流) bujutsu), I appreciate Dave's obvious respect for the martial arts. Stay Frosty.
Love the dedication and persistance of the training in your life. I cant believe how balanced you are. The combination of dedication, skill, humor and the obvious signs that all is relative, that all training is to be taken deadly serious and at the same time as lightly as possible (always put in a smile and if you wish... do perform in front of the camera)...is also there with the sensei. More vids of the sort please Dave. With high regards!
Hi Dave, how are you doing today. Just wanted to say thanks for the smile that comes to me every time you talk. Sometimes we all need a smile from anyone,or someone we do not even know ;)
Dave is and always was ahead of the times. For a long time now, he’s clearly been in tune with his physical, mental, emotional and spiritual side of himself probably thanks a lot to the Eastern teachings he shows just a little of here. Here in the West our medical professionals have only just started being open to Eastern practices in the last 2 decades roughly; many are still closed off to most of what the East has known for so long. It’s interesting how some say Dave’s ego is too big when most of the newer Western world lets their ego get in the way of learning and understanding the much older Eastern world. An older anything ALWAYS has much more wisdom but imagine what they both could learn from one another. Thanks Dave for showing us a little bit of your wisdom and where some of it comes from. ❤️
Nice! I'm a Ch'uan Fa/Taijiquan guy. I can see the hours you've put in, Sir. Great footwork. Great economy of motion. A pleasure to watch. I remember reading the martial arts magazines in the 80's and seeing your name in the tournaments. ✌😊
Your teaching skills are exceptional, Mr. Roth. My brother used to instruct at a couple of the Frank Wolsey, Kung Fu studios and I remember how important doing his forms were to him.
Damn. When he drops the shtick. ( Which btw has its place and it's awesome in its own way) he's still enthusiastic and a seeker. Dave's carved out his own unique place I'm this world. Just like - EVH - whom started a band with Dave while still a teenager. Edward Van Halen was a Prodigal genius -But Dave deserves more credit for exposing Eddies gifts. Van Halen ( w/dlr forever)
I'm only just recovering from the 'VH Hangover' from the MIGHTY VAN HALEN CONCERT in Sydney, Australia!! What can I say, it was more than I expected & by far the best concert I've ever been too!!!! Aside from the usual but brief sound problems, time delays & weather joining in the show Van Halen showed why their the kings. For any band to follow Aerosmith is a massive risk. Not only did Van Halen blow that to dust but they put the whole festival on notice, THIS IS HOW THE KINGS ROCK!! Thank you!
I didn't know he studied Kendo/Iaido until about a year ago. I also study Kenjutsu and think it would be cool to train with him. He is exactly right about the not feeling like training, but it is a mind strengthening skill. The first time I put the Bogu (Kendo Armor) and had my first training bout, my forearms were black and blue from getting hit by the time class was over. I had never felt so alive before I started my training. To actually hold a live blade (sharpened) and cut bamboo, it felt like lightening rushing through my body.
I train every day except Sunday. Though I transitioned from Japanese fighting systems to HEMA systems some years ago. We have our own systems that were every bit as conplex & developed. I & others feel it's important that we train/teach them & keep them alive.
Hey Dave, I saw your tribute band Jump in Angola Indiana at the electric room. Those guys did great! Not as good as you guys were in 1984 in Fort Wayne, Indiana when I saw you, but it brought back alot of great memories of seeing you guys all together. God bless you! Black Belt April 1992??
Dave, you need to give us a video where you have been sippin' on some Jack Daniels for a little while. Tell us some road stories from the early, early 80's. How much coke was consumed poundwise? ha ha.
I have always loved chanbara sport, and therefore by extension kendo. And I'm amazed and happy that our friend Diamond Dave is passionate about it too! Go ahead and... jump!

It was nice that you shared that two minute minute video but we were not seeing the scene the same way you see it, the story, the background information was missing. With this episode that episode is no longer just two guys with swords but another fascinating world. Thanks!!!
Thanks for the nice video and explanations on quality training, mental focus, discipline, duration, and more...enjoyed the stage demos @ Paso Robles last week too. :)
Fantastic to see his serious, focused, disciplined and coherent side. This is his balance. Brilliant man.

Yeah, he's alive.
@@howardrobinson4938 LOL! AND he's not a rock star anymore. That ship sailed a LONG time ago!
Fantastic video. I love Dave. Always have. It makes me happy to be on earth the same time as him. One of the coolest.
Yeah, yeah...you say that now after learning what sweet Dave is capable of doing to you if you are against him...lol
Being a lifetime musician with 25 years in the Martial Arts and a former employee to Mr. Roth I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this :)
Dave is a modern day renaissance man
Exactly
He's something...
I set up for you sir and you were super nice and thanked everyone!!! What a great, informative and intelligent instructor. Such a calming voice too, almost makes me want to take a nap ☺️ he really REALLY should have made more of these videos.
For all his money and fame Dave seems to have worked out the important things in life. Has his feet firmly on the ground, spiritually.
The spirit has it's feet on dave's ground.or dave's ground is his feet.or it's a feat that Dave is still standing on his feet. I'm lost .what just happened?
Very true~
A very kind man as well.
Yes I hate when people put him down that he’s a narcissist maybe at the beginning when he was young but to do this you must have balance
@@SibzelChebst he’s following his passions and things like that not worried about making money anymore, pussy, or impressing people.
I remember all the splits in mid air and spinning round house kicks on stage They were impressive back then and knowing Dave was a student all these years makes it that much better. 🗡
Impressive is right.
He is a true frontman and a good leader.
Total Package !!

It's so awesome to see David Lee Roth in this environment with that much focus. It balances the other side we know so well that rocks.
This man seems to live every day of his life to the fullest good for him.

“Where is David Lee Roth?” Being bad ass where ever he goes.
He knows so much about worlds we juggle.
