Hey, guys, John here with realtruck.com. Today I want to show you how to install the American Hard Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover on this 2015 Ram 1500. Okay, guys, you can see here we have it out of the box. It comes with everything you need to install it. It comes with your seal, your instruction sheet, and your hard-fold tonneau cover. So, let's get this on the truck. All right, guys, the first thing that we're gonna do here with install of our Tonneau cover, is actually install our tailgate seal that comes with our tonneau cover.
And the reason why we want to do this, if you ever notice when you close your tailgate, you look in there, you can see a gap and some light around it, well, we want to put this seal on here. Because what that's going to do, that's gonna help keep a lot of the dust and water and stuff like that that throws up on the back of your truck from coming inside your bed, even with the tunnel on. So we're gonna put this on there. And the first thing we're gonna do is take our alcohol prep pad that comes with this, and wipe down the whole area and then we're gonna start installing this.
All right, once that's done, then we're gonna take our tailgate seal. Now you can see here when you look at the tailgate seal, that you can see the shape of it. It has a flat side, and then a more bulbed looking side. The flat side is the side that we're gonna actually be attaching over here. And what we wannna do when we do that, is we want to leave this bulb side sticking just a little bit past the edge of our bed. And that's what's going to allow it to make a good seal on the tailgate. 866-554-0581 Free shipping for orders over $100!

wouldn't the tail gate seal just rip the first time you drag something out of the bed. It is stuck to the floor of the bed. Shouldn't it be on the vertical surface between the bed and tailgate.

I see the black covering (plastic??) over the top of your bed & tailgate, is this needed for this cover? Is it part of the package? I have no such covering. Also, is there anything to prevent opening the cover if the tailgate is shut/locked?

I am currently looking to purchase this for my 2015 Chevy Silverado ltz, I noticed on the website it asks if I have a track system but doesn’t specify weather I need one or not. Do I need a track system for this to fit on my truck?

musicman254: A track system is called many things such as Cargo Management System for Chevy/GMC and Ford vehicles, while Toyota calls them a Deck Rail System. It is an item that some trucks come from the dealership equipped with and these rails running the length of the bed. If you have one of these in the bed of your truck, it will effect how certain tonneau covers are installed. If you do not have one, you can still purchase any tonneau cover, including the American Hard Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover.

Just a quick question here. I am looking at purchasing a tonneau cover for my 2016 RAM with the factory spray in bedliner. All of the videos that I've watched show rubber seals being installed prior to putting the actual tonneau cover in place. While installing the rubber seals may work great with trucks that don't have a spray in bedliner (they have a clean painted surface for the seals to stick to), what do I do in my situation where I would have to try to adhere the seals to the spray in bedliner? How would it stick and stay in place? Or is there a good, hard tri-fold tonneau cover out there, where I wouldn't have to worry about installing rubber seals to the bed? Any info you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If you have a spray in bed liner you would need to purchase adhesive promoter to install the front bulkhead seal. The American Tri-fold would not come with a bulkhead seal though, these are popular on roll ups and covers that mount completely on the inside of the bed.

As long as it's properly installed and used as the instructions indicate, you shouldn't have any problems with high winds.

Can you open this with the tail gate up or does it lock in place while the tail gate down? Just wondering how secure it is.

The tailgate has to be opened in order to open the tonneau cover. Hope that helps!

Michael, we do not recommend standing on top of any hard folding cover. The weight rating is accounting for the weight being evenly distributed.
