I own a liquor store in NYS and it's unbelievable how you find any of these spirits. Availability has been so ridcuously hard on so many different brands, I've been really struggling to keep the shelves full this year, everything seems to be out of stock or back ordered 😅
You should definitely try out Valentine Distillery based out of Detroit if you haven't already. They continue to win a ton of global awards on their vodka, gin, and whiskey.

I was wondering if you had the 1/8 distilling company release for this past year. The Untitled Whiskey is ridiculously rich and insane in terms of finishing influence. For me, Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend was my American spirit of the year and that Untitled Whiskey release was within the top ten. When you take a 10-14 year old high rye bourbon and finish it in good casks - interesting things can happen.
You're simply the best ! Nice to know the goodies are so close to home: will try the Asbach 15 to see if your 21 is worth the investment. You wouldn't believe how jaded Germans are about "Asbach Uralt" having been hammered into us with commercials for decades. Cheers and happy new year !
Great list but I gotta point out something that everyone been doing, the Seagrass is a finished rye so it’s not really fair to call it a rye since it’s so off profile for a rye.

Here in Germany the Asbach 3yo is 10-15€, the 8yo 20-25€, the 15yo 30-35€ and the 21yo 80-100€. Even the 1972 Jahrgangsbrand is only ~130€. So if you live in Germany or central Europe Asbach is just the best deal for brandy and the distillery is located beautifully in the Rhinevalley in Rüdesheim right in the middle of the arguably best wine region in Germany. The Japanese Situation is really Bad, i hope for a better Status in the next decade…

Can't find any Forteleza in Minnesota :( I did however try Tequila Ocho for the first time this year, and I know of a store that carries G4 and some other good stuff so I will have to get that soon.
You almost get me drinking armagnac, or brandy with these yearly wrap-up videos. Sticking with whisky for now, how about an American single malt catagory?
Lol, I actually was close to including that category, but space was limited and I also didn’t have time to round up the bottles that would be needed. This year I really enjoyed the Westward Whiskey (new bottling with blueish label) and some of the Virginia Malt bottlings. Cheers!

Actually they released CC 44 year some time ago. The 43 year has somewhere between 8-9% 11 year rye blended in. So per Canadian rules, 9.09% or 1/11, the 43 year age statement can remain. The main thing is the end result I suppose but that is the way it is for the CC 41-44 year releases. 41 year had Cognac, Sherry and Rye added, but no more than 9% in total. The 40 year was 100% 40 year corn
Interresting how flavours differ from the US vs. Europe. Asbach, "brandy of the year"? Unbelieveable. I'm surprised that you didn't have a Metaxa up there as well... You probably won't get too much of quality spanish or portugese, or even armenian, brandies over there.
The Asbach 21 Year was my “World Brandy of the year” (not including Cognac and Armagnac). It was the purity and elegance of the distillate (with the long maturation) that got it there. We do get Armenian, and a few Spanish Brandys here in Texas (but not much Portuguese). My problem with the high end Ararats was the heavy use of dosagé. The few upper tier Spanish brandys we get (Torres 20, 30 and Lustau) have a similar issue, but lean heavily on the sherry casks (which aren’t always “clean” - meaning they have sulphur notes). That said, I’ll give them all a fair shake again this year, and we’ll see how they rank this December. Cheers!
@@LiquorHound: Spanish Larios has a fantastic brandy called 1866 (Nothing spectacular about the bottle itself, though.) - sherry casks as well - and another great house from Mallorca, Suau - 8, 15, 25 & 50. There's loads of others, too, of course, but not all make large quantities. Portugal i have yet to deepen myself into, but given their production of port & madeira wines, they have an excellent starting point for cask maturation. There's great stuff from italy as well - Vecchia Romagna being the most available. Tuaca & Villa Zarri definetly worth checking.
Also I think PM Spirits is on to something big in the US as an independent bottler. I have a store pick of L'Encantada XO of a blend of 3 barrels 30-35yrs old. Great value and delicious.
I appreciate the suggestion, and I’ve reviewed The Rock’s Teramana tequilas. But to be honest, I don’t usually buy celebrity bottles since they’re mostly overpriced / mid-to-lower tier sprits (quality wise). Let me think on it, and if I can come up with a good lineup that won’t interfere too much - between spirit types - maybe it’ll happen one day. Cheers!

I live in Hawaii and get to purchase when I travel to Virginia and Florida. Most of the liquors you review are unavailable in Hawaii. But when they show up, I purchase them. Koloa Farms in Kauai produced a 5-year Rum priced $130. I thought they were nuts until I tried a free sample. I think it's well done. Happy Holidays!
It’s crazy how a scotch can evolve so much in a bottle. I wonder how many phases there is? (Just opened, neck of the bottle, fully opened-full surface of the bottle, less than a third left)
Did you find that the Scorch Committee needed to breathe? I was severely disappointed when I first opened mine, but with some air in the bottle and a couple months on the shelf it got really good. I haven't seen other reviews mention that, though.
AND......the only one I can get in North Carolina is the Laphroaig 10. Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC Stores) just don't carry anything that is going to sit on the shelf for over a week or two. It's all about getting those TAX DOLLARS.
It was a group/store selection from here in the North Texas Area (a few months ago). Lots of stores are selecting their own single barrels of Holmes Cay (some in unique casks like this), so if you see or hear of any, you can feel safe picking them up. They also have a line of their own releases that have been solid. Good luck and cheers!
Nikka From The Barrel is definitely NOT a Made in Japan whisky under the new rules. Nikka Coffey Malt likewise but interestingly Nikka Coffey Grain is Japanese.
