Have you considered the possibility that the trailer is a dramatization of the point at which Min Min first gained her powers? Once she transforms we don’t see her go back, and she coils up her arms when she sits down to eat with Kirby at the end, so it could just be a version of Min Min’s origins but with Captain Falcon and Kirby.

The ARMS Community says “Hello!” As someone with over 1,500 Hours in ARMS, and loves making advanced Tech Videos on the game, I did notice these things pretty much right away. However, it doesn’t really bother me. Especially considering what this is supposed to be. If this was cutscene in the actual game ARMS, it would definitely be completely contrary to the estimated Lore, and wouldn’t make sense at all. But considering that this is a Reveal Trailer, with a Twist, I understand the decision to bend the rules a bit for the sake of the Twist. Either way, can’t wait to play as Min Min in Smash! 🥊
Checking if anyone mentioned, Sakurai was told that they got springy through some sort of special ARMS power, so it seems Sakurai had normal arms for the character when not using the special powers.
Ultimately, I like how Min Min went from regular arms to ARMS in the trailer purely because they were able to distinguish the spiral eyes while she was transforming. I wonder if the entire transformation / reveal sequence is why they went with this lore change for just the trailer.
Considering anyone who knows anything about ARMS could tell it was Min Min within the first 2 seconds, the whole reveal transformation was pointless anyway. Her entire identity is built around her noodles, literally it's why she joined the league- to promote her Ramen shop.
Im so glad you brought this to attention cause when i saw min min's reveal trailer i was like wait normal arms , no spiral eyes and began to question if the mask does more cause it didnt line up with arms lore. I would wanna see all the characters with no mask and loose springy arms tho.
During the ARMS direct, it was even stated they just woke up with them one day. Springman: I was shocked at first, but having ARMS like these is actually pretty rad"
Guys chill he’s just saying that the trailer was super unfaithful to the lore, which is odd because all the other trailers were SUPER Lore faithful even for non nintendo franchises
James V Banjo and Kazooie already canonically exist in the Donkey Kong universe, so it’s not far fetched to say they would fight King K Rool, especially considering that Banjo is good friends with Diddy Kong. Hero (specifically the default one, Eleven) is known for fighting off darkness, and is specifically destined to do so. Dharkon is a physical manifestation of darkness, and the Nintendo characters were being controlled through darkness, so it makes sense that Eleven would fight something he’s destined to fight.
James V You could make this for every character BECAUSE ITS A CROSSOVER! And banjo burying k.rool is a reference to the ending of the first game, so get your facts right before talking shit buckaroo.
I dont remember it ever explicitly saying that ARMS were permanent. Plus whos to say this isnt a special ability of hers, to switch? I mean, Twintelle uses her hair, not actual ARMS. Or maybe this is her orgin story, and her ARMS awakened in this trailer?
Well not permanent the arms still look similar to there long parts when they are normal as seen with the art in the game where spring man's arms are still blue and look to have coiled up. So her arms being normal is still wrong.
actually in this tweet twitter.com/ARMS_Cobutter/status/871683525866430465 it's stated that their masks stabilize their ARMS allowing the spiral form. if they take their masks off their arms can return to normal. and Min Min only gets her ARMS when she puts her mask on.
Every thought there were a lot of mistakes in this trailer I thought it was a very fun trailer. Never knew I need to see captain falcon and kirby eat ramen but now I'm happy I saw it.
You mentioned the comics, finally someone is paying attention to the actual lore it’s nice to see I’m not the only one who got it during free comic book day 😁
Smash is already filled with misconceptions anyway, but I still don't think that gives it permission to add anymore. This video was spot on with that little ARMS mishap.

@signerleo snyder actually he kinda do needs permission from other companies how to handle their characters, even if they are not third-party. The copyright system is a very strict system, and if the companies wanted they can give Sakurai a complaint for anything about their property's representation and the team will have no choice but to go along with the complaint. Don't get tired because "I'm one of those Smash fans who ask for a lot." And remember, Sakurai is not the only one who made this game too. His whole development team takes credit too.
@@Stanpai mmmm actually I think they do, I don´t see this as a mistake , more like intended, I don´t think the team and sakurai wouldn´t know about this, I mean it´s their job, at first I noticed it too, but in the end I think they did it this way for the sake of the narrative of the trailer.
Okay but I think the whole point was to keep the identity of Min Min a secret for the pacing and reveal of her addition in the trailer, for the people who didn't know it was obviously her when Falcon and Kirby were eating ramen
I didn’t know this and it’s very interesting that such a contradiction exists, but tbh I would take this to mean Nintendo and the arms director are ret-conning that part of the ARMS canon. That, or, as someone else said, Min Min got her ARMS ability BY receiving the invitation. The Smash letter is what gave her those powers and acted as some kind of catalyst?
At this point I'm really not surprised, because not only you have a game where Min min suddenly "gains" the ARMS power, but also a game where Joker can use a spell without a Persona, Byleth somehow having the 3 respective houses' relics, Mewtwo being a lightweight, Jigglypuff's Rest not healing it, Robin using Nonfuratsu without the dark mage class, Snake not carrying at least 1 firearm, Greninja's Hydro pump only dealing 2 - 4% damage max, Megaman not changing into different colors based off the Robot Masters, Pac-Man not speaking (really), Ness knowing moves that he's not supposed to know himself, and probably some more too.
I honestly didn't catch this, even as a fan of ARMS. It's been quite some time since I've played the game (Animal Crossing being a large reason for that), and I was unaware of the "their arms are permanent" lore. Thanks for the informative video!
I’M GLAD SOMEONE ELSE NOTICED!!! but tbh I wasn’t bothered by it, because tbh this “new lore” made more sense, you can tell even the writers of the ARMS lore back then had no idea what to do with the lore
I love this video so much. This is exactly how I felt about most of online reactions. Some people who haven't played arms figured out that it was going to be Min Min, but it's only because there was a lot of speculation around her. For example if trailer began with Captain Falcon playing V-Ball with Kirby on Buster Beach, would then anybody have guessed that Byte and Barq was joining the smash? If you have played arms before then maybe... So glad I'm not the only one who noticed human arms on Min Min
Seems to be a creative choice to allow for a cool transformation and hide her identity from those unfamiliar with the game. It is also likely that the Smash team didn’t really talk to the ARMS team about the lore and may not have known these things in detail.
The only best excuse that I could come up with for this oversight is the fact that Covid is causing a lot of trouble for everyone, so it may be possible that a creation flaw was overlooked simply because of the lack of communication between workers. Not to be a naysayer, but it has caused a lot of things to miscommunicate. Heck, I work in a hospital and while we don't have our normal work ethic right now, what work we do have is always changing every other day as far as rules and restrictions. So with that, I can see miscommunication being a contributing factor to this flaw in the trailer.
Who's to say this isn't a universe where she unlocked the ARMS ability after grabbing the letter? She got the swirl right after her arms changed, and we never see her change back.
Also a good reason they used Minmin I didn't see you mentikn: she won the community event and as such is the character that canonically won the tournament.
@@Stanpai I understand that. But I figured since you were correcting things it would also help to clear up the "because the director said so or else they'd have used the more popular *insert favorite here*" arguments. More info for those less familiar with the series would always be helpful.
In the comic it explains that the ARMS behave independently so you could have control for a moment and then suddenly the ARMS go flying or collapse and uncoil. It's extremely unsafe in a hot soup environment.
See, I just thought that they had normal arms when not wearing their mask, so I didn't pick up on it. I didn't realize it was a permanent modification. Also, your name is absolutely glorious!
Oh. I thought that the mask gave them their special ARMS and then this trailer demonstrated that perfectly. Must've been some rough translation I saw. Interesting.
Yeah, I was confused why she had normal human arms when she is supposed to have compressed noodle arms in its retracted form. Also, without their masks, they won't be able to control their arms and they would just unravel and flop on the floor. Min Min should've been seen wearing the mask already in the beginning.
Found this video randomly just now, but so glad I did! I didn't notice it immediately, but it just dawned on me on my 3rd rewatch of the reveal trailer that Min Min's arms were normal, and wondered how such an error made it in. And then I randomly found your video and you covered it perfectly with source images from the game's lore and all that :) Well made! Your voice is natural and pleasing, and the video was really genuine and I loved your honest rant on youtube reaction videos at the end, haha. I've seen a comment saying how it could be a dramatization of her origins, and honestly, that does make sense, as she has her coiled up ARMS at the end of the video as well. Sakurai tends to use creative liberty where he's allowed, but at the same time he's very meticulous on respecting the lores of games wherever he can. He even mentions in the presentation video that he saw Min Min using her legs to kick away _projectiles_ in a video or something in order to justify the deflect move in smash. Still, it might've been a genuine mistake that got overlooked. But he did speak with the game's producer, Mr. Yabuki, so he must've been told of the lore or Yabuki must've said something if he was consulted to review the reveal trailer. Anyhow, I'm just rambling now. Good video :)!
Technically they can coil and uncoil arms it's just uncontrollable without the mask. You could technically have an ARMS user without the mask that happens to have control in the moment. That said, It doesn't explain why Min Min had regular human looking arms and also no spiral-shaped eyes. what's telling is the ignored lore for the initial reveal but as soon as she's back in the ramen shop they actually do follow how the lore says she should look with her arm coiled and everything. They just broke the rules to conceal her at the beginning. I don't really have a big problem with that but it does do weird things with the lore.
My take on it (Although it’s a very very odd theory) is that these reveal trailers aren’t just reveal trailers in our universe, but also in the Smash Bros. Universe. What I’m basically saying is that the fighters have activities outside of actual games and have their own dorms and stuff like that, and they also gather up to see the trailer, too. Basically seeing who’s gonna be joining the Smash Bros. Roster, and the trailers are probably fake and were shot like a movie. They probably had to use prop arms to put over her actual arms, so that they could be hidden and have just a tiny bit more surprise not just to our universe, but the Smash Bros. Universe as well.
You call it it a mistake, I call it "head cannon is a Expansion to the ARMS lore" that people who has the spiral arm trait can willingly hide it and if they are to be in the ARMS league they can show it.
Maybe it's an alternative timeline, notice the stage they are playing on in the finale is not in fact the final stage of the tournament. Similar to how Smash Corrin isn't the same Corrin canonical to the Fire Emblem timelines, and is instead a Smash representation of the character.
Exactly. Min min from Arms isn't the same character as Min Min in Smash. They might share similar backstory but in Smash the characters are representatives of said individual character. People always complain about inaccuracy of characters like Ganondorf or Sonic. But they are not the same as their incarnations of their origin games. P.s i'm writing this while sleep deprived. I'll fix my grammar issues later.
Theres two huge holes in your argument. For one, you never cite anything for your claim that the ARMS can turn back into regular arms. None of the stills you provide even indicate as such. I even checked up on ARMS lore myself and, from what I could find, there's nothing that directly supports the claim that ARMS can't turn back into regular arms. But let's assume this is 100% factual. Even if this is the case, you shot yourself in the foot. Wouldn't the lack of a mask, spiral eyes and ARMS in the trailer imply that this is Min Min's awakening to ARMS? Everything seems to line up perfectly for that possibility, it even explains why Min Min wasn't in the tournament and would also give the trailer a small plot. It genuinely seems like you actively ignored this possibility to further bolster your argument.
Dude, 1. Thats not how it works(onest u get the spirel eyes and arms the ARMS company made a mask for the person to control the arms ability(IT MEANS YOU CAN ONLY CONTROL THE ARMS NOT TURN THEN BACK TO NORMAL U CANT DO THAT) 2. The video just said that the mask only alow you to control and coil them back so they work like normal arms 3. All of the info that says that is in the game
@@Pablo_Martin_aa Your first two rebuttals aren't even clear as to what they're addressing so I'm going to ignore them for now. As for your third point, as someone who actually took debate and is very serious about the debate process, that statement physically hurt me. You always, ALWAYS, need to cite something when presenting a point as factual, this is basic 6th grade writing. And there was a very clear attempt in the video at around 1:30, but the still provided in the video doesn't even address the whole "can't turn back into normal arms" thing. And if it is in the game, why not, y'know, actually provide a clear indicator of that piece of information? Surely it's possible if what you say is true. Just saying "it's in the game" does nothing to support your claim, where in the game? What is the exact line? Despite the hiwever, I couldn't even find the information on the official wiki, something is clearly not adding up.
@@Delta-lu5kf In the labs confidential 5 artwork, it says, directly quoted "The arms ability often emerges overnight, with those affected discovering their transformation upon waking up."
Having a guess that min min did something (like meditating for who knows how long) to swap her arms back and forth. Or she just have a drawer full of flesh colored sleeves and that she can still keep her arms intact without the mask
I got excited for Min Min being the ARMS rep because of her dragon aesthetic, and the things surrounding that. I'm a big fan of that stuff, so I was genuinely excited for it. (Referring to your little rant towards the end. I may not be an ARMS fan, but I can be excited for a character like that as well ;) )
I read someone say that she was actually wearing her mask behind her bandana and my guess is that she was wearing skin color sleeves to make her coiled arms look normal.
Ye, I don't play arms and wondered about it because of the little knowledge I had of the game I did knew that it wasn't just something that can be switched on/off.
In a trophy of arms i'v heard that when the mask is out of their faces, their ARMS get normal, but when you put them back they turn into Really ARMS ok, explained, at least it in my reasoning
The whole point is that she was a normal person and at the moment she got her invitation she transformed for the first time into a arms fighter because she was really exited
Her mask was probably under that thing on her head. Double concealment for her ARMS. The mask to keep them in humanoid shape, and that hair piece that covers the mask. Then during the trailer when she "activates" her ARMS, the mask drops for dramatic effect. Least that's how I interpreted it.
Sorry, I just don't see where you get that the ARMS ability can't be deactivated Yes, they get the ability randomly but nowhere in the images shown says that they can't be deactivated And if the ability isn't activated obviously they won't have spirals in their eyes nor will need the mask to control their normal arms
It could be some new lore that the creators wanted to get out there maybe? Like, if you trained and attuned to your arms enough, you can revert them back to normal, and with min min being a expert fighter, she's able to master the changing of her arms
It's pretty cool to be honest, seems like ARMS has really interesting lore, and I would love to know more about it, but, also, let's remember Smash it's not canon and things change, everything Smash related it's not inherently part of the character.
The Koopalings can’t turn into Shadow Mario outside of Smash either. In Super Mario Sunshine, Bowser Jr. wears a different bandana to transform into Shadow Mario.

I think in the presentation Sakurai said that they can activate the ability when ever they please, so they don’t always have the slinkies. I could be wrong though but I swear he said something along those lines. If not then he must’ve misunderstood the director
The smash bros. "canon" is often if not always completely different to how it is within their own series. Things like this happen all the time, so it's not that out of the ordinary. It's not a mistake, it's just an adaptation of the canon to make it make at least some sense within smash bros. for example, arsene never gives joker wings in persona 5, but it's an adaptation of an in-game quote to make it fit into smash bros. Good video tho.
Idk, to make the accusation of "I wish people would stop pretending to be hyped for views when they don't know anything about the character" seems kinda silly. People just like to see a new character, especially one that looks cool gameplay wise.

You could just say she trained to have more control of her coiled arms and disguised them, and you could say she wore contact lenses to conceal her spirals. It was mainly just for the surprise that it was Min Min to begin with because people wouldn't recognize her outside of her regular costumeing
I think it’s either misinterpretation or just an excuse for Min Min to have an awesome superhero transformation. Either way, Smash has been known to take creative liberties here and there, so I can forgive it.
I haven't played ARMS, and didn't know about the lore you explained and showed (I paused the video to read it) however I came up with a theory... maybe during the reveal trailer her arms manifested for the first time, and chronologically she fought in smash before than in ARMS. Maybe?
The ARMS Grand Prix demands that you have qualified prior to the tournament to get onto the stage. Otherwise, it's also explained that you typically get the ability overnight while you're asleep. Not a bad theory though in terms of chronology.
Well then ARMS lore. Yeah I'm gonna put it in. the Min Min tells her own story of how she got her ARMS infront of Kirby while Captain Falcon is serving noodles to her.
The mask is supposed to help control the ARMS. She wasn't wearing the mask, so her arms should've sprang around crazily. Also, the consealed arms still look like a spring, but compressed, so her arms shouldn't have looked like that.
The thing that makes this trailer have no problems is the fact that we all know captain falcon invited Kirby to that ramen noodle shop which means captain falcon and Kirby hang out like this
People didn't take it seriously because they didn't understand how complex the game can be and no one really dived into the lore and just played it casually.

@@jadenjerries2094 that's what ARMS do
You must be a character in arms because good lord you’re stretching
actually in this tweet twitter.com/ARMS_Cobutter/status/871683525866430465 it's stated that their masks stabilize their ARMS allowing the spiral form. if they take their masks off their arms can return to normal. and Min Min only gets her ARMS when she puts her mask on.
This was very interesting. Thanks for explaining the ARMS lore.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed that, I thought I just didn’t understand arms lore like i thought I did
Turns out it was them who didn't.
Can we just agree that Falcon sharing his voice with Vegeta compensates for it all
FINALLY! THIS STUFF WAS BUGGING ME SO MUCH , I’M SO GLAD SOMEONE ELSE NOTICED!
Okay but I think the whole point was to keep the identity of Min Min a secret for the pacing and reveal of her addition in the trailer, for the people who didn't know it was obviously her when Falcon and Kirby were eating ramen
Not to mention the fact that in the gameplay her charged up dragon laser has a blue spiral wrapped around it unlike the red one in Arms
I’M GLAD SOMEONE ELSE NOTICED!!! but tbh I wasn’t bothered by it, because tbh this “new lore” made more sense, you can tell even the writers of the ARMS lore back then had no idea what to do with the lore
uh, its canon in arms that the characters can make there arms normal if they want
ARMS: But what about our lore?
Sakurai: I don't care about you lore.
Min Min: NOT WHEN IM JOINING SMASH!
I noticed this instantly, and was worried that no one else was going to talk about it.
Who cares?
I noticed to
@@Keychan64 I care
This wasn't about that. It would certainly have helped to specify that for the sake of all the people crying about why it was min min though.
@@Stanpai I understand that. But I figured since you were correcting things it would also help to clear up the "because the director said so or else they'd have used the more popular *insert favorite here*" arguments. More info for those less familiar with the series would always be helpful.
Maybe Min Min Was picked because She has this Ability To switch
(2:35) But how does the person in the comic put on the mask if the arms doesn't work prior to putting on the mask?
In the comic it explains that the ARMS behave independently so you could have control for a moment and then suddenly the ARMS go flying or collapse and uncoil. It's extremely unsafe in a hot soup environment.
See, I just thought that they had normal arms when not wearing their mask, so I didn't pick up on it. I didn't realize it was a permanent modification.
Also, your name is absolutely glorious!
Thank you!
Bro he said machina doesnt have arms even though she in a mech also she can be see in some art with human arms btw

You aren't understanding
I didn't play arms, but what if min min never had arms and it was at that exact moment when she got it?
I dunno, just a theory...
That's so cool to see that others enjoyed the game as much as I did! Cool vid!
The F-Zero GX theory.
You call it it a mistake, I call it "head cannon is a Expansion to the ARMS lore" that people who has the spiral arm trait can willingly hide it and if they are to be in the ARMS league they can show it.
I thought something was off after seeing her without the mask. But I sort of forgot some of the ARMS lore so I wasn’t sure. Thanks for reminding me.
I thought it wasnt permanent and you could turn them on or off?
ARMS characters: Please don't take off my mask.
Joker: .. Revealing dark?
show me your true form!
Dude,
1. Thats not how it works(onest u get the spirel eyes and arms the ARMS company made a mask for the person to control the arms ability(IT MEANS YOU CAN ONLY CONTROL THE ARMS NOT TURN THEN BACK TO NORMAL U CANT DO THAT)
2. The video just said that the mask only alow you to control and coil them back so they work like normal arms
3. All of the info that says that is in the game
He dosent cite info because its all on the game
Its also in the Comic dude
Having a guess that min min did something (like meditating for who knows how long) to swap her arms back and forth. Or she just have a drawer full of flesh colored sleeves and that she can still keep her arms intact without the mask
I got excited for Min Min being the ARMS rep because of her dragon aesthetic, and the things surrounding that. I'm a big fan of that stuff, so I was genuinely excited for it. (Referring to your little rant towards the end. I may not be an ARMS fan, but I can be excited for a character like that as well ;) )
I did notice the skinny arms, the artwork always show them using coiled arms.
But because I never played ARMS, I didn't know about anything else.
Ooooo very interesting analysis! I'm not much into ARMS but I really appreciate this video.
That's a cute piece of fanfiction but it completely goes against the lore.
Her mask was probably under that thing on her head. Double concealment for her ARMS. The mask to keep them in humanoid shape, and that hair piece that covers the mask. Then during the trailer when she "activates" her ARMS, the mask drops for dramatic effect. Least that's how I interpreted it.
Sorry, I just don't see where you get that the ARMS ability can't be deactivated
Yes, they get the ability randomly but nowhere in the images shown says that they can't be deactivated
And if the ability isn't activated obviously they won't have spirals in their eyes nor will need the mask to control their normal arms
I agree with this
It could be some new lore that the creators wanted to get out there maybe? Like, if you trained and attuned to your arms enough, you can revert them back to normal, and with min min being a expert fighter, she's able to master the changing of her arms
It's pretty cool to be honest, seems like ARMS has really interesting lore, and I would love to know more about it, but, also, let's remember Smash it's not canon and things change, everything Smash related it's not inherently part of the character.
Well ... Byleth can't really fly around with the weapons following her, but no one is complainning.
The Koopalings can’t turn into Shadow Mario outside of Smash either. In Super Mario Sunshine, Bowser Jr. wears a different bandana to transform into Shadow Mario.

But then we did
Not a stretch to say that's probably a part of it, yeah.
It didn't really work that well, after all, I've seen many youtubers recognize her JUST BECAUSE of the noodle shop.
I think in the presentation Sakurai said that they can activate the ability when ever they please, so they don’t always have the slinkies. I could be wrong though but I swear he said something along those lines.
If not then he must’ve misunderstood the director
Maybe you could argue that tree he mask was technically being worn under her uniform

Exactly!
Either a spring or a tied up noodle.
The thing that makes this trailer have no problems is the fact that we all know captain falcon invited Kirby to that ramen noodle shop which means captain falcon and Kirby hang out like this
Man, I have to get back into ARMS, see what I've missed since the updates.
Thank you for this explanation I really wanted to point that out.
People didn't take it seriously because they didn't understand how complex the game can be and no one really dived into the lore and just played it casually.
