In some of the live shows, Tyler did a mashup of this with Elton John “Benny and the Jets” … Tyler was total vibing!! This is a fun song in the concert. Tyler did audience participation, which was so fun! In terms of the lore, we are told that “SAI is propaganda,” so I see this as a song from the Dema perspective. Don’t try to move forward, we’re moving sideways. Forget the pills and treatment. Stay on the sidewalk, don’t try to break free. But it can also be interpreted to just live life. Don’t let the rain clouds pull you down. It’s ok to feel what you are feeling.
Don’t know why SAI gets so much hate. Love that Album… such a great summer vibe…. And that LIVE STREAM?!?! Gosh I wish they would release that for us to buy.
I remember I was in 9th grade when I watched that livestream and TOP collabed with chipotle and I bought the meal for the livestream 🥲 I miss those times but yeah I LOVE SAI
@@gee_zen_marie4012 actually, it might say the same thing. If you're in the middle of the road..."keep sidewalk under your feet" is sound advice. Start fresh Next Semester.
First and foremost, never forget that the Internet is chock full of stupid people. People that crap on this album just want tøp to play trench over and over. They are the same people who will immediately say somebody needs to watch the trilogy the first time they ever hear a tøp song. And they obviously have no taste in music . Granted, SAI isn't my favorite album. But it's all good music that is very well done. As always.
OMG This 👆🏻 I have such a pet peeve about people always forcing the trilogy to brand new TOP reactors too! There are still so many good songs on SAI. Choker,Shy away, Formidable, Redecorate.
I’m so glad you said that! I always liked TOP and knew the popular songs, but only in the last couple years did I really dig in and become a huge fan. Maybe because I’m older or always been eclectic in my music tastes, but the trilogy isn’t necessarily my favorite stuff. It’s great, but it’s ALL great. Part of my TOP love is because their sound is always different, but you know it’s them. The talent is ridiculous, the music and lyrics top tier whether it’s trilogy or not. Most of my favorites aren’t even part of it (some are). Anyway! Just thanks. I always felt embarrassed to even say that like it’s just me because it’s an unpopular opinion.
@carladicarlo3255 oh I can give a wayyyyy more unpopular statement about this. And I will. Right now. Here we go... The trilogy IS pretty bad ass. Nico and the Niners is a top 3 song for me. Hell, Jumpsuit is my ringtone even. But without knowing who Nico is, what Dema is, etc, the shit in the trilogy songs (like "East is up..." Etc) don't even make sense really. It's extremely confusing to most new listeners. And it turns a whole bunch of them off. Just like "My Name is Blurryface ... " makes no sense to people hearing Stressed Out the first time, without knowing any of the lore. You'll know it sounds good. But it sounds like a throw away or filler line that means nothing to them. How could it?? Even MORE unpopular??? Ok here.... TØP fans are great. But TØP fans can also be the absolute worst.... Sorry but they turn people off the band all the freaking time. No one wants to be told, by some stranger, how you're supposed to feel or and what it SHOULD mean to you. Just saying. Teaching others, that are new listeners of the band, about the lore, when they WANT to learn it is awesome. The problem is tøp fans always seem to SHOVE Athe lore down their throats. Or they forget that they are teaching it from their level of knowledge of the lore. Rather than trying to teach it at a super basic beginner level. From the actual beginning, which is not Trench... ( It's not Blurryface either... ) That would appeal to more potential fans, obviously. Problem with "fans" trying to teach is that they forget that not everyone even wants to learn anything whatsoever about the lore. Any they act like the lore is everything. IT IS NOT. I'm 45. I've been a huge fan since 2012. It wasn't til 2 years ago I even started looking into the lore. And I never felt like I was getting less from the music. I literally had to ignore the "lore guides" to even enjoy engaging with other fans. Then I decided to dive into it one day, and ASKED about it. It's a fantastic story. I'm glad I did. But not everyone wants to write a dissertation on Clancy/Dema. And they don't need to in order to appreciate the music. Btw, your opinions are only unpopular to the exact lore guides I mentioned, and people that recommend the trilogy to someone who's heard maybe one tøp song before. And who gives a damn what THEY think..?
Scaled and Icy definitely has a reputation as a contentious album, but it's been nice to see a bit more appreciation for it recently. Its place in the lore as a propaganda album Clancy/Tyler was forced to write by the Bishops, paired with the fact that apparently Tyler was going through a lot of personal struggles at the time, and pushed down his pain so no one would worry about him, makes this album a lot deeper and sadder than it appears. It just really hurts my heart to think about. Not to mention, come on: There's a dragon! Who doesn't love a dragon?! 😄
SAI is a journey through several decades of music history, Mulberry Street and Good Day for classic piano rock vibes. I love Tyler on a piano, and Mul-Bennie live highlights his love for the piano as he channels his inner (and outer) Elton John. ❤
Mulberry Street is in my top 5 all time favorite tøp songs. When I heard it on release day, I immediately had tears. It was as though I finally found what I needed. It brings classic nostalgia ❤
SAI is always a vibe. I can't help but remember everytime that this was a creation out of isolation/pandemic time. The feel is a constant vacay-mode kind of thing. Then as this released itself.. all of a sudden ..that time was over. Like a victory album over that period of all our lives. ...Especially this track in particular 😍 👂 🙉 Our boys Tyler n Josh... really missed us all. 😪
During The Takeover Tour he played Mulberry Street into a cover of Elton John’s Bennie and the Jett’s. And it floooooowed. Tyler’s today’s Elton John. Who else’s is out there on a piano making bops?
When SAI came out I just wasn't in a good mental state to fully enjoy SAI. But thos year has been so good to me. I revisited all the albums before Clancy release and SAI grew on me so fast and its one thats always on repeat now, especially Mulberry Street
This album reminds me of paramore after laughter album which has the same type of pastel color schemes and pop sounds with heavy lyrics which is why I love it. My favorites artists are the most versatile. Yes every album of theirs has their own sounds and personalities as they should I don’t believe everything should always sound the same it takes the fun out of it
I did not appreciate SAI when it came out. I am currently doing a SAI deep dive for a final project in a culture and creativity class for my bachelors degree. It is an amazingly underrated album.
Definitely Billy Joel or Elton John vibe. I’m headed to Denver too. I told my husband that if we see you…we’re gonna call you out and say hi. Hope you enjoy! I know you will.
To me, this album is what “Plastic Beach” was to the band “Gorillaz” … it was hated at first but as time went on it aged well & was loved. I’ve been following twenty one pilots since “Blurryface” but was never a big fan until “SAI” was released & they changed my perspective. It’s sad to see that it was received poorly but to me this album made me a permanent fan & means so much to me
I love mulberry street and scaled and icy. The people who hates on SAI dont know how to appreciate music. This song feels personal because i struggled with caring about the opinions of others about taking medication for mental illness. This song reassures me that its okay to take care of yourself in whatever way works for you. Lore wise, i believe that this is a song that your depression is singing to you. I dont know how to explain why. Tyler explained what mulberry street meant in this song, and ever since, i have that belief.
I would love to see you react to the Scaled and Icy Livestream. It was thei album release event for SAI. Broadway style. Only available on Google drive.

At first was thrown by this one as I've known several folks who really benefited from antidepressants and worried Tyler was getting all Tom Cruise on us. Once I realized this was dema and not Tyler it clicked so hard. Of all the songs in the catalog this is the only one that I worry about people not understanding the lore on because quite frankly some folks really need those synthetic highs to survive. Great bop though musically.
