Thanks a lot for making this video, When you talked about focusing on methodology and problem-solving rather than learning software was the place where caught my attention the most. I'll be really glad if you can guide all of us on how to develop that problem-solving skill before we proceed further. I know it's a long process but any pointer from an expert like you will really help.
Thank you so much. I will try and make more videos on these topics.
A really simplified explanation of the concepts, clearing the clutter around the roles in Analytics & most importantly the importance of methodology over Software tools. Thank You Alvis Sir, You are indeed one of the finest mentors, one could wish for. So glad to know about your give back initiative along with supporting the attitude & concept development for the budding professionals:)

Really Good perspectives on Analytics
Thank you
The most useful video I've seen this year! Thank you so much for this. I've a question though. What skills are required to be a data scientist / analyst in supply chain industry. What are companies look at?
Glad it was useful. Skills required for analytics career are as follows:
1. Problem solving skills
2. Analytical ability
3. Functional knowledge on supply chain + hands-on (added advantage)
4. Research capability
5. Ability to build models
6. At-least 2-3 Analytical tools
Most organizations have analytical roles in very different way. But all have this in some form. You need to choose an organization which has a dedicated process excellence vertical.
Or you can also look companies which provide analytics as a service.
All the best!
BR, Alvis Lazarus
Really informative Alvis , especially the models give a clear vision. Passionate on moving forward in analytics. How could the Gardner model help in using Agile Scrum ?(this is often a required skill he)
I mean how could this help, in my new role I have to lead using Scrum to solve Supply chain problems (backed up by analytics).
Tank you so much, Heinz
You are most welcome. All the best.
I will try to make related videos in the future.

Hi! I'm doing a PhD in computer science and my thesis revolves around the immunization supply chain. I was wondering how can one benefit from artificial intelligence or data science to optimize the supply chain and/or what other possibilities exist :) Thanks for making this video, I'm definitely putting the SCAM on my wall!
Hello Karen. All the very best for your doctorate. In terms of opportunities that are available in supply chain to use data Analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or things like IOT, there are abundant opportunities available. To be very specific in terms of which areas could give a great field of ROI, you can look into areas of Inventory management, Last mile Logistics, and supply chains of products which need special treatments
Most satisfied career video I ever seen. You clear all the loopholes for freshers who comes in supply chain analyst career.❣

Hi sir,
I like planning things out and as an fresher who has just entered into supply chain, I think supply chain planner would be the thing for me. I would like to know the difference between supply chain analyst and supply chain planner?
There are few overlaps. But in principle planner role focuses on the demand and supply planning. But supply chain analyst will analyse the performance data and other systems across the supply chain.
Sir tools that we need to pick up for shaping our career in Supply Chain Analytics
Hello Ayush. You can start with mastering spread sheet modeling and simulation. Then you can learn a bit of automation through VBA. Also tools like Minitab for statistical analysis and R / SAS / so on... for data analytics. You can learn Python if you need to take it to programming level. All the best!
Regards, Alvis Lazarus
Well Explained Alvis, but you still did not elaborate much on the top 3 Software Analytics Tool... Although I do believe in Methodology approach...
Yes! With the number of options available, I could not specify anything. But I will try to do a separate video.

Sir, I am working freight forwarding industry my education background is Mechanical engineering, now am looking supply chain analyst what I should I do now? Joining course? How can I get a offer in supply chain analyst? I have an one year experience in freight forwarding industry.. plz give me some tips.
Hello Karthi greetings I see that you have a mechanical engineering background and you’re working In freight forwarding which is great as you might be our freight forwarding is part of a supply chain so in a sense of already started your career in supply chain but what you need to do is now get a hands on multiple functions within supply chain like manufacturing sourcing warehousing transportation and so on so the best way where you can move from this current role is into warehousing or a global transportation role. I’m not sure how many years you have spent in the current role but I would recommend at least two years in each function before you transition to another function within supply chain and this is the only way you can get a good hands on in the end to end of supply chain also you can do multiple courses at different points of your career which will help you in this journey for example if you want to move from freight forwarding role directly to a supply chain analysis then you should do specific courses in analytics also do some basic course in the into and of supply chain and there are many options available in fact even in our channel supply chain where there is a dedicated video available for supply chain carriers you can probably go through all the videos in that playlist. If you have any follow-up questions feel free to write that back and I wish you all the very best best regards from Alvislazarus

is data scientist similar to operation research analyst???
Hello Shubhankar. Both the roles are different. Data scientist role would focus on researching and building an analytical models to solve a business case. Operation research analyst would certainly use data analytics and the functional knowledge, but to specifically solve business issues in operations within supply chain. I trust that clarifies.
