So I really appreciate the video. I’ll be honest, when I saw it was a rating of 4.5 I was excited to maybe learn something. I am also over 50. But I don’t understand the rating system. I would not consider myself a 4.5 given the competition I play but I definitely feel I could complete quite well with these players. Ratings really are very subjective based on the competition you play isn’t it?
Thanks, I’m glad you appreciate my video. I will try to answer your question. IMO, the rating systems for pickleball are broken, but not the way you might think. Pickleball is not as fun to watch as it is to play. You see someone missing relatively easy shots and right them off as over rated. Video doesn’t translate variables such as wind or current conditions and often the spin of the ball. Nerves are also high at the beginning of matches. The players in this video are absolutely correctly rated as they will beat most players their age. Do they make mistakes? Absolutely. They will not beat 20 year olds with a 4.5 rating and they shouldn’t have to imo. If you think you can beat them, great. Enter a tournament and see what results you get. Try taping a video of your play, it is a great way to learn what you’re good at and what you need work on. Best advice I can give is to not take ratings too seriously as they are too flawed to be accurate. Sandbagging is at an all time high, just have fun. 🤩
The you tube videos with ratings are really weird. I'm 53 and play a higher level than this and wouldn't be a 4.5. People tend to overrate themselves way too much. This is a 3.5 match.
@@mweshler these people are playing the level they play for a reason. They play a lot of tournaments, they don’t guess. Can you tell us how many pickleball tournaments you’ve played?

Are the defensive shots 4.5, and is the mental game 4.5. These players are good. It started out a little iffy. The gal in blue hit three balls that were going way out from the banger in gray. The match got better as it went along. Not being negative. All four players were great.

I play "banger in Gray" ;) every week. He actually bangs more in mix because that is what is required! HE also played senior pro at this tournament in MIX! I do NOT believe ANY Of the balls were out that gal in blue hit (maybe one). I play this guy often and he has MASSIVE top SPIN (like you would not believe) and they all tend to land in. He probably has one of the most powerful servers and drives at 50+ (I am INCLUDING all the senior pros at APP!!!) Thanks again for watching. Nicki got SILVER in ladies 4.5/50+. I think your comments were all good and interesting. I think taped matches look SLOWER than in real life. Agreed - all four players were great in this match and to be honest, this was on the best 4.5 matches on the day!
