Great video. My daughter bought me a "Christmas" cactus, which later I discovered it was a Thanksgiving cactus. It was very full and thick with an abundance of flowers. I had never seen one of these and love it. Once the cactus was unbound from the store plastic I could see a lot of broken off segments, which I put in soil and a few in water. It's been four months, and all are thriving. Only lost one small segment plant. I intend to start thinning the cactus out a bit anytime now due to it being spring.

You can do it! It is super easy and they are a forgiving plant.

Yes they are so pretty and a sheer delight when the outside is so drab or snowy.

I have (had?) two of these. They have thus far left me unimpressed and I’ve recently decided that I want to only keep houseplants that I truly love and enjoy. So! I decided to do a little chop on the smaller one to see what will happen! I had kind of neglected it in a bright room so it was getting enough light but it was BONE dry and had some dead roots. I pruned about half of the roots away and about 1/3 of the leaves. We’ll see what happens!

They produce flowers on last years bracts so you may not get flowers this year or you very well may. I am with you on not keep plants that don't absolutely make you happy so if you decide you don't care for them gift them to someone who will enjoy them.

I got gifted mine by my sister because she had almost killed it, and I knew nothing about them but I got it to survive and it bloomed for the first time last year around November, this year I thought I’d like to prune it, because it’s very…long and not full. So I should wait for right after it blooms next time??

You can probably prune it now and be fine. If in doubt, prune half of the stems and leave the other half alone. Then prune again after the next bloom. Hope this helps.

Thank you I have a Christmas Cactus I need to prune. I have tried propagating them in soil and have not had any success either so am going to try your suggestion of stones in bottom of jar. I would love to see your greenhouse- do you have a video on it ? Did you build it yourself? I have a bunch of old windows that I am planning on building one with, I think I may have enough windows now to get started but will have to take inventory!

We assembled the greenhouse but it was a kit from Sunshine Greenhouses, they have them still via the Greenhouse MegaStore. I will do a video of it and though the poor thing has been through the mill and needs some repairs it is still a wonderful place to work. I love greenhouses built of old windows, please do share once you have it done. I would enjoy seeing it!

@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Can't wait for the video and yes, i will share when we get our little greenhouse built. Would be wonderful if it is part of the 2021 plan which I haven't even come up yet as my addage is "the plans of mice and men...." :)
