Hi Ashley, Many thanks for this enjoyable and informative video. I bought my first Christmas Cactus at Blackhawk Hardware Plant Shop here in Charlotte a little over four years ago. Love her. She keeps to her December blooming dates pretty much all on her own. I’m pretty sure I just found her happy place by accident .😊. A couple of years ago I watched the Garden Answer Channel re-pot a 100 year old Holiday Cactus that had been handed down through the generations and I was in awe. What a special gift! Take care. 👌🪴🥰
My wife and I had finished grocery shopping at our local Walmart and as we were walking back to our car, she noticed there was a 3 leaf Thanksgiving cactus laying on the concrete. She picked it up and started telling me about it because her grandmother has had a huge one for many years. We planted it in a 4" ceramic pot and 3 years later we have 2 - 8", 1 - 6" and 3 - 4" clay pots filled with this cactus around our house and have had several blooms along the way. These plants are amazing ETA: the soil mixture we used from the start and now is a mixture of 2 parts Sphagnum Peat Moss, 1 part Perlite and 1 part Cow Manure compost. We also use a "Moister Meter" to make sure the moisture level barely drops into the dry area only after the plant has developed enough roots. Before the roots are developed we kept the soil at the middle and above of the moist reading and we have had 100% success so far
I wanted to add that we are using a metal rack that we have with 3 LED lights attached on each level; 2 - 3500K and a 6000K LED light with a timer of 12 hours on and 12 hours off, 12 to 16" above the cactus and they are starting to BLOOM AGAIN. Our room temp is around 72 degrees. I firmly believe it is because of the fertilizer for the most part and then maybe the broad spectrum lighting that also helps.
I have all three. You can also tell the difference with their flowers, which are all unique to the species. My Christmas and Thanksgiving are still blooming now
I really appreciate you doing research and explaining that these are not desert type cactus! Thank you! Following up on what you shared about them living in the rainforests, they also love humidity and absorb a lot of moisture through their leaves, which balances out their roots' needs for well drained "soil". Eager to try out this rePotme mix in mine!
Best place to find Easter cacti was at Ingles floral section, they had nice ones in hot pink, cherry and orange, picked up a orange one because I have never seen it before
Love your content Ashley! I picked up an orange (my fav) Easter cactus at Walmart and a pink from HD! The HD one was rough looking but it’s perking up for me.
Good info. You showed the difference between the holiday cactus but I think the Christmas cactus you showed is actually Thanksgiving cactus. Christmas cactus looks similar to Easter cactus. The only one with points is Thanksgiving. That is how I learned it. Can you clear this up??
nevermind. after doing a bunch of googling, it seems there are different stories about what is and isn't Christmas Cactus, it has a very interesting history. I do think the middle one you showed as CHristmas Cactus is also S. Truncata, a plant identifier also stated 98% chance it was. True Christmas Cactus is actually Schlumbergera x buckleyi. S. Bridgesii is incorrect, outdated reference. ANyway, I don't blame you at all for any misinformation. There is SO much misinformation about this online by various sources that should be legit. Also S. Truncata is widely distributed by retailers as "Christmas Cactus", even though its actually Thanksgiving Cactus. I currently have a large Thanksgiving cactus, two small Easter Cactus, and a very tiny CHristmas Cactus...trying to get a whole Holiday Cactus collection. I really enjoy these plants.
Question what would be some reason why my thanksgiving cactus is turning red on the leaves she’s thriving but she’s super red (she’s also blooming right now!)
Awh can you help with mine? It's leaves are falling off... I took it to a nursery and they said it looks healthy but I'm thinking no... I've only had one or two flowers since I got it... it's been almost 3 years since I got it... oh and it's thanksgiving by the leaves. 😭
Hi sorry to say bridgesii is not a Christmas cactus.bucklyi is and has been known to be true Christmas cactus for a hundred years its a hybrid of trunkata x russleanna. & Have more scolloped (clades) leaf segments than bridgesii respect to you.❤😊

Will a thanksgiving cactus grow in leca do you think, and will it grow in a course cactus mix.,? Thanks for the response.

I would like to make my own soil
What kind of sand should I use?
I have orchid soil would that be okay to use instead of the potting soil?
u have good energy u rock me disabled senior on borrowed time
My cuttings from at least 2 years ago didn’t do well in soil so transferred them to leca but still growing very slowly😢 I wonder why?
Hey Ashely!!! I just wanted to tell you that I just bought a freaking monstera constellation at Kroger!!!!!!! I literally freaked out!!! 😅
Thanks for sharing!!
@@LifewithAshleyAnita your so welcome! 😁 I was literally screaming inside 😅

If it's getting a lot of sun, the leaves will turn a pretty pink or red color!

I just got one today from Walmart and thank god I reported it. It had mesh around it
