I bought an 1981 Celica GT 5 spd in 1985. It had a manual sunroof and windows, hatchback, blue interior/ exterior, the Celica aluminium wheels, and was one of the best cars I've ever owned. A rock-solid car. Now I have a 2003 Celica GT TDR 5 spd as a summer car, and it too is a good car! Maybe some day I'll find another 1981 Celica and have the pair of them!
Had an 81 Celica GT back in the late 80s. Was probably the best car I've ever owned. That 22R is bulletproof, as was stated in the video. Still miss that car.
I had two like this . The first a st 2000 lift back which i went caravaning in France . I had to drive from Durham uk to Tours in France to pick up my caravan . Quite a journey .she ran great until just outside Paris when i picked up dirty petrol. And had to stop every 50 miles to clean the fuel lines out . I ran this car about four years .no problems only replaced tyres in the time. Lovely car .i was the talk of the village . As every young kid thought it was the knightrider from tv which it wasnt but it was black and sporty . For the time1985 - it looked good . Wished i still had it .
I had the exact model as my first car. I learned everything about the car, since I didn't trust mechanics. Had one get angry and back a truck into the rear. I wasn't pleased. I really miss that car! Even placed a Knight Rider scanner under the front grill cover. The only one in my area. My car had the Moon Roof. It was awesome~
The stereo was ahead of its time it had a button that you would push and it would sound like you were in a echo chamber, it would blast you out of the car, it sounded so great as if you were at home sitting in your living room listening to your house stereo.
I had the same exact car back right out of high school except mine had a sunroof and was black over gold. It was a very nice car I bought it off my older brother who purchased it brand new and 81 and that car ran great I hated to sell it but I had my eyes on a 1962 Chevy Impala which I got rid of like a dummy.
I had this same 81 Celica GT 10th Anniversary Edition Loved that car has 250k when I bought it december 28th 1993 for $900 Gave it my brother years later with 327k on the odometer Put less than $600 in up keep over the 4 years I owned it
If I'm not mistaking I think they were rear wheel drive also, mine was in mint condition my brother get all his cars up like they were brand new and he would purchase a brand new car every three to five years.
Intechdude did you ever see a Chrysler Daytona or a Daytona Shelby at the auctions? My Dad used to own an 87 in the late 80s and early 90's and I do have fond memories riding in that car as a little kid.
pdarocha1970 Actually, it’s the first of 22R engines used in the Celica and yes, your 80 might have looked ‘exactly’ the same, whether it was an ST or GT coupe, it WASN’T this, a GTA 10th anniversary edition! Probably not important to you as it is to true Japanese auto aficionados like myself, this represents the last of the 2nd gen Celicas, and 10 years of Celica production (in America) ‘71-‘81. So this was special in that it had the special two-tone (brown/gold or black/gold) paint, interior/dash from the Supra, including sound system, pwr accessories, wheels exclusive to the Cressida and a few other special touches. I’ve owned a couple of coupes and a hatch(‘78) of this generation and have always wanted this particular model as well as the (‘78JDM) ‘79 Supra, as I absolutely love the greenhouse design, overall timeless sleek(for the time) body, and the luxury features. And it’s a Toyota, so it will run forever!
Nice looking car. I love the 1980-81 Toyota Celica. I prefer manual shifting transmission over automatic, but the rest of the car looks fine. Do you still have the car or did you sell it? :)
Under the hood intimidated me a bit. thats around the time vaciuum lines & electroni relays & sensors was become more the norm. That sone reason I prefer 70s cars, yet the 80s were looking better to me
get a new youtube channel name you sound a bit off saying gm is shit yet chevy ius in your name gms make alot of great cars especially in the mid 80s mid 90s im talking about the 3.3 and 3.3 cast iron motors they do late forever

I had an 81 Celica ST for about 4 years. Loved that car. I still have dreams about it.

Interior looks great. Nice options. Ahead of it's time for sure!
I've had two 81's GT and the ST ! Great fun =)
My favorite Celica ever! Like a Supra coupe, without the inline six, long hood or the lift back!
I had a 1980 liftback, what a lovely car. Great memories, would love to find one now!
I remember 2 cousins of mine that had cars like this and they ran good.
What a beauty! Give me this over a new Toyota anyday! These are somewhat common in LA but none are in this good condition. I wish I could buy this.
It's a ST with a GT badge and Supra interior. Dash should be that fake wood. Has premium sound system, power windows. Unusual to see a ST in a GT

Is the copper sunroof celica for sale?
I had this same 81 Celica GT 10th Anniversary Edition

Interested in selling?
The 22R has been in those hilux pickups. They run for over 400k if maintained properly. They would probablity outrun the car itself! Great video :)

I owned one my senior year of high school(89-90). It was a TANK!
This is a Japanese Ford Mustang
Is it only me who relies
This was one hell of a popular car back in the day.
Thanks for sharing. It's beautiful.
Hello Celica brother.
Put 160k on mine, hated getting rid of it!!!! Very dependable car. Yeah, a Tank!!
I got one too as a first car. found at a auction with 20k miles running for 400 bucks. now it has an engine problem and needs a rebuild sadly
22R four cylinder long block. Shouldn't be too hard to rebuild if not the easiest. I can think of a dosen engines that are more difficult.
Intechdude did you ever see a Chrysler Daytona or a Daytona Shelby at the auctions? My Dad used to own an 87 in the late 80s and early 90's and I do have fond memories riding in that car as a little kid.
Love the Car! Looks great! Keep that Toyota love going!
Now this is a proper Toyota.
I have an '81 ST that I'd like to restore. I need a bunch of parts...
nice, we had an 81 toyota pick up, had similar interior
Saw one of these gems today. I like this one better
Where is the car
That interior actually reminds me of a late 1970s Dodge Charger built by Mitsubishi. So does the exterior!
I love the car, but I have decided that the youtube video stabilizer is basically beer goggles for videos.
I HATE Toyota of today, but love their real true classics. This car is great.
Glad you uploading videos on your account again. I like your videos a billion times more then the wanna be car a driver shit on the other channel.
First of all, it's not the first anything, I had a 1980 witch is the exact same car, and the engine was a 2.2 litre not 2.4!
Actually 1981 was the first year of the 2.4 Liter engine's.

Yes they are hard to find,
I got a 79 GT liftback automatic. Love that thing to pieces.
I would of loved to of had a car like this because I remember they were popular. They were very expensive to.
this is a GTA. very rare.
Need one like that
Nice looking car. I love the 1980-81 Toyota Celica. I prefer manual shifting transmission over automatic, but the rest of the car looks fine. Do you still have the car or did you sell it? :)
That's a RA40 Second Gen Celica with X60 Cressida wheels

makes me miss my '81 ST terribly, mine was the same color although not 2-tone. some asshole t-boned me
Under the hood intimidated me a bit. thats around the time vaciuum lines & electroni relays & sensors was become more the norm. That sone reason I prefer 70s cars, yet the 80s were looking better to me
Make a video of Mitsubishi Mirage 92 please
I have the samme one ...brown and everything
Pretty cool
Wow that old toyota is better than current ones today. Shows how the Japanese have lost their way....
I'm OK with you. :)
Toyota wishes it still built cars this good, while the newer Toyotas look decent we all know they're sadly (cheaply) built :(
Back when toyota made real cars
I wish I could buy this car. I was wondering if this is for sale?
Me too
Everything works amazingly it's not from 1938! I got a 83 Chrysler sat for 13 years and everything but the digital clock in it does not work!
I used to own one.
Yo tenia uno y me gustaría tener otro como puedo
i love this car.....drool
But you have Chevy in your name?
Only toyota...Hondas are still pretty sweet.
Nearly 35 years later a Corolla still uses a 4 speed automatic smh
I thought my 91 was old, wow
It needs the five speed. Otherwise it is perfect.
can anyone supply me an equalizer for the 81 st
I drove a 110k Km in Europe, Berlin, and Milan , Italy with that car.
😥😥😥😥
Чего!!
Crap. If this were a 5 speed I'd have asked where the hell it was so I could buy it.
5-speed manual is available
get a new youtube channel name you sound a bit off saying gm is shit yet chevy ius in your name
gms make alot of great cars especially in the mid 80s mid 90s
im talking about the 3.3 and 3.3 cast iron motors they do late forever
