It’s not a great game at all but if you look around the league that’s kinda how it went this weekend. I can’t see how that’s equates to being the worst qb in the nfl the week like what?
I think he was on his toes and not driving his cleats into the field during the passes because of the field. Looking at Love slipping so much on the other side whenever he tried to hit the top of his drop hard gives credence to this.
Please don’t skip us for week 2… I’m looking for a grade on a decent grass field. The left guard, AJ, SB and CJGJ were sliding throughout the game. I’m just glad we came out of it w/o injury and w/ a W.
Nah take a look at 22:46. When he makes the decision to throw the safety is in a great position. If he threw that to Devonta the safety has a beat on it
@pavp7820 there's no position the safety could be in that deep to stop that from being a completion. Had half the field to place the ball in. He plays it fast and doesn't give Devante a chance to cross face. Yes, we like Hurts but realistically there's no way to look at that as not open
There are 2 things that irk me about hurts. 1st was mentioned a few times in this video. He plays slow mentally. He makes decisions too late. 2nd he stares down his receivers. I know exactly where hes going with the ball every time
That play call @17:00 works so well only because Smitty sells the block for that bluff so well. If he goes straight to the wheel Jalen has to throw to the flat because the defender probably stays with smitty. But he doesn’t release into the route until he sees the defender commit to shedding his fake block.

At 22:00 when you talked about the double deep-in route combo - do you think Jalen meant to throw this ball low because of the concept? Throwing it high or in stride would be a hospital ball as the opposing corner from the other in route would light AJ up. To me Jalen seems like he missed a little low but didn’t necessarily throw it way off target. What do you think?

Hurts 1st Pick - It looks like Tampa but thats really an iteration (love your use of that word!) of Saban's Cover 7 which is one of saban's early versions of match coverage designed to really "shell" the whole damn field vs trips - 4 over 3 on one side / 3 over 2 on the other. It's also split field coverage that Darnell&Patterson made famous. Anyway - if it was a straight up tampa, then #7 is racing back immediately - this is only an assignment based on the pattern distribution (match coverage). OR --- just seeing 7 guys getting depth - dump it -- it was really an easy read - but Hurts isn't a drop back guy - I love how you get on the drop steps - in a timing Pro style or WCO that timing is critical. I wonder if fans think you are too detailed about that - but it's all in the details - especially in pro style timing offenses and with NFL speed. Hurts is really not great as a drop back pocket passer - like many QBs today - his feet are awesome in other ways. IMPROV - which is more Spread or Air Raid style. Which is what Sirianni was originally playing with, before the team imploded on his ass. So here - Hurts has an extra shuffle as you pointed out - timing now off - plus he just locked on - his vision was very poor - he saw a 1on1 w/ a LB and that's not what it was - it was a C7 - CHECK DOWN TIME! - easy for pocket passes ala brady , burrow, etc
Maybe because the field was slippery, Hurts played more on his toes so he didn’t slip back from the force of driving his heel. We saw Anthony Richardson have the same issue where he continuously kept slipping back in the Colts game
@@bonym371 A lot of people played sloppy because of the field on Friday, not just Hurts. I’m not sure how you equated bad footwork to the Super Bowl, but if you want to talk about that, I can. Wet and slippery fields make essentially every position harder to play, as mistakes and bad positioning are more likely to occur. The positions that gets affected the most is the DL. It essentially neutralizes them from making a sack. Neither the Chiefs’ nor the Eagles’ DL played well that Super Bowl. @@Zippadeedoodaa-nt8om My comment does not mention the poor play by Jalen Hurts. It only mentions his sub standard footwork, which may be driven by the slippery field. Jalen Hurts has shown himself to be a QB that can win his team the game under pressure, but has difficulty with decision making and making the reads fast. I understand this. He made three bad throws, where only one turned into an interception. His other interception came from AJ slipping. That was a mediocre throw, but not wholly his fault. Jordan Love also did not play well given the field conditions.

Shit, I remember playing a game in gravel, sometimes u just gotta adjust. GB got some big TDs (so did philly) due to the defense slipping around.
I’m a die hard Philly fan but I’m reserving my feeling on Hurts until after this season. If he’s as good as I think he is we should be pretty close to unstoppable. We don’t have a single weakness on offense and Kellen Moore isn’t perfect but he’s plenty good enough. No excuses.
At 15:00 when you talked about the quick out to AJ Brown I had an additional thought on the hot that I’d like to get your opinion on. As an eagles fan I’ll tell you that a slant to AJ Brown is the most uncoverable route in the league. So when I saw Jalen point at AJ in real time that’s what I was expecting, I was shocked with a smile on my face to see that it wasn’t slant and that it probably caught Jaire off guard as well. Is that how you see it? Or do you think this hot had nothing to do with a predictable slant?
for some reason over the past 5 years or so the eagles have gained a weakness to water hurts last year seems to still favor deep over close and overlooks te so much.
The 21 min mark where he throws the "sinker" all I can see is Smitty against the single high safety running towards wide open space. 39 min mark 2nd interception, why is no one mentioning 88. If he hangs in that pocket just a half a second longer 88 is wide open for the TD at the top of the screen.
At 28:30(ish), you mention that Hurts looked like he sped through his progressions this game, and he should “just run the play that’s called.” Do you think this is due to how often he saw the blitz last year? Maybe just trying to play at a faster tempo?
@@TheQBSchool they probably meant statically, it's on him now matter what, which is dumb. I'll never understand that. Someone will have to explain that to me.
As an eagles fan, im still concerned. We arent throwing into the hots and we arent identifying the slot corner blitz still. Some play designs are much better and i see some improvements but thats still a concern. I also felt Hurts arm strength on some of these throws were lackluster. I wonder if the field conditions didnt allow him to really drive on the throws or made him cautious to do so. Time will tell for all
Jalen was clearly rattled with all the slipping going on. He didnt trust his eyes because (as we see late in the game with AJ) his receiver could slip at any moment before coming open.
Sirriani needs to get them a couple preseason snaps to iron this out BEFORE THE SEASON. He’ll get much better once her get used to his new center. But this is what happen last year. I don’t I’d er stand what sirianni does in Philly 😂
Struggle for years? No the year before last he was actually the best statistically, meaning ( most success against the blitz) he was literally number one out of the entire league. Suggest you look it up before just making up a problem he didn’t have until receiving as terrible coordinator drawing up his game plan last year.
Against man-on-man coverage, passing schemes should have more man-beaters. Very few rub routes, mesh concepts, and bunch formations. It reminds me a lot of Sirianni's schemes and not Kellen Moore's. More has incorporated things he does well into this offense, but a lot of it still is too similar to last year's basic passing trees.
Jalen will be an MVP candidate this year. Just needs to get used to a new system (again) and a new center. Things will iron out and he’ll go back to 2022 form
first pick was off on timing, he threw too late and behind, seen smitty slow down there. that's a lack of real reps thing imo. the fumble, another lack of real reps thing. the 2nd pick was another late release. the other almost picks were BAD BAD decisions
I feel like the hype overtook the reality. We expected Hurts to continue growing at the pace he did in his first two years. Which is unrealistic. He’s not going to be a pure pocket QB. He shouldn’t be making 30-35 passes stationary in the pocket. We should be running the ball often and helping Hurts with play action and boots. Make it easier for him to get into a rhythm. I feel like last year we stopped making the offense to highlight our players skill and started making Hurts change to match the offense.
He's a pocket passer, but he's just a QB who can run really well. Him changing OC stunts his growth and he's the only top QB who's had a rotation of OCs. I think he's the best QB in the league, but that's just me.
@@neetrab Go back to last season against the Jets when the Eagles were about to win the game. What did Jalen do? He literally snatched a loss out of the hands of victory. He didn't have a proper drop and I believe he threw off his back foot into double coverage after having stared way too long at where he was going with the ball. That was one of the worst interceptions I have ever seen. A quarterback with his amount of experience shouldn't be making those kinds of throws. He looks all world playing buddy ball one second and then throws balls that even a high school quarterback knows you shouldn't attempt. I loveJalen's work ethic but I believe he needs to see a sport's psychologist.
Hurts’ throwing fundamentals are not good… His lower body and feet need a lot of work . He never closes down to lineup his feet properly. Plus, his throwing arm position when setting up is not coordinated with his lower body. Throwing coach is not getting it done…If he was on a pitching mound in baseball, he would have trouble throwing strikes… Compare his fundamentals to Brady!
I have 3 issues with my team on offense 1: Jalen all too often tells the defense exactly where he is going with his eyes and body and also doesn't deviate unless hes under extreme pressure or his option is locked down tight 2: Jalen allllllllllllllllllll to often has a player all but doing jumping jacks they are so open and he doesn't see them. He needs to read the field better 3: Some of our offensive players don't scramble to get open after they run their route or if the defender has anticipated the route correctly. These guys need to do whatever it takes to get open so he has options Honorable mention: We send players in motion that we are never going to throw the ball too and it's not fooling anyone. If we were to actually start using those guys it would open up the world to us. One of the key reasons our 2017-2018 Eagles beat the brakes off everyone and beat the patriots in the super bowl was the ball was spread everywhere to anyone open and the defense never knew what was really going to happen. Nick was never playing hero ball he was just getting it to the open man. The teams we have had in the last few years could have easily done better had they been more proactive instead of reactive.
1. False. As mentioned in this video his poor throws tonight we’re over seeing the right thing but pulling the trigger slightly too late. That can be cleaned up with more reps. You can argue they should played in the preseason and I’d agree with you. 2. This happens occasionally but fans always act like they know the play call and the progressions the QB goes through. Plus what’s open on TV might not be open on the field (or at least look open). 3. That’s fair. AJ especially gets a little lackadaisical with some of his routes. This area could Improve I agree. Honorable Mention: this just is flat out false. The eagles literally just started in in cooperating motion this year. And the point of motion isnt always to throw to the man in motion. They serve other purposes. C’mon now that’s simple shit lol
@@TheProdigy_916 in all of these examples I'm not pointing at the brazil performance but him overall as I've seen enough to be able to make these assessments. The exact same way he is using film to break down the performance is the same way you can pick apart the last 3 seasons of his overall play as well as the team. Really on both sides of the ball if you wanted. I'm not trying to take away from this videos breakdown of the eagles performance but give my overall breakdown and disappointment with what i have seen and wish they would improve upon. 1: Look you can go back to any game you like and watch Jalen, HE will at times be dead set on a target and hold on to that option so adamantly that the defense is just ready for it. You can tell by how they leave their assignments or tighten coverage in that direction leaving Jalen to have to throw it away, try and force it with a perfect pass or cause a turn over. 2: I'm at games at times seeing this live. Now granted i don't have his view and perhaps he can't see over/around the o line but I can't help but point out that I see other QBs very often do their checks and do a quick dump off to the most open person on the field. It's crazy frustrating to see what could have been when we go 3 and out unnecessarily. 3: We agree HM: This isn't just referring to that any new scheme they may be running now, I can't tell you how many times I've seen them try to read the defense by moving a piece of the puzzle on the board but then not use it. Don't even get me going about how underutilized Swift was. When we did use him that kid could eat up the field but we would line him up time after time and then run qb designed runs..... WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHY. Just give it to Swift. The defense is NOT biting and they are crushing Jalen time and time again. Do we want to keep him for 8-10-15 years or are we just gonna waste him and get him killed? This isn't year 2 where teams didn't know he could move and where he was acting as RB2/3. Teams know he can take off and are ready for it more often than not. That's just one example but there are many others where the motion or set up is wasted.
Jalen is a One Read QB...and he has questionable situational awareness in the pocket. I think the Jordan Palmer off-season program could have helped him with his deficiencies within the passing game, locking into & starring at his first read, no climbing the pocket, no scanning, he panicks when the hot read I'd covered,,,and scrambles or rolls right improvising. Nevertheless,,, The Birds need to address this ASAP- Or it's turnover city all season
I remember watching 2 years ago and you were asking the questions about the hot reads. It's nice to finally have some for Hurts

JT!! Check out Holstein at Pitt kid is a stud already!
That field was awful. On the interception, Landon Dickerson is just getting ice skated into Jalen's lap is crazy
I don't get why the fumble is always called on hurts
Jurgens snaps it early, he made a mistake and that is it
Isn’t that what I say?
@@TheQBSchool they probably meant statically, it's on him now matter what, which is dumb. I'll never understand that. Someone will have to explain that to me.
As an eagles fan, im still concerned. We arent throwing into the hots and we arent identifying the slot corner blitz still. Some play designs are much better and i see some improvements but thats still a concern. I also felt Hurts arm strength on some of these throws were lackluster. I wonder if the field conditions didnt allow him to really drive on the throws or made him cautious to do so. Time will tell for all
How many times was wr3 wide open? Hurts needs to look at ita third option and not get mesmerized by AJ and Smitty
I'm just seeing how great Mckinney is. He's everywhere.
Jalen was clearly rattled with all the slipping going on. He didnt trust his eyes because (as we see late in the game with AJ) his receiver could slip at any moment before coming open.
Clearly rattled
Hank Alert is cracking me up haha
that first pick i was furious shipley was wide open
Shipley ain't in the progression just yet
Sirriani needs to get them a couple preseason snaps to iron this out BEFORE THE SEASON. He’ll get much better once her get used to his new center. But this is what happen last year. I don’t I’d er stand what sirianni does in Philly 😂
His center doesn’t help him throw the ball
Struggle for years? No the year before last he was actually the best statistically, meaning ( most success against the blitz) he was literally number one out of the entire league. Suggest you look it up before just making up a problem he didn’t have until receiving as terrible coordinator drawing up his game plan last year.
Yes needs to be quicker at just throwing it trust himself thank you
Think the footing thing might have been the field as well
DONT ALL QB....I WATCH EVERY GAME THIS WEEK AND I SAW EVERY SINGLE QB DO THE EXACT THINGS Y'ALL SAY HURTS DOING.....SO JUST KEEP IT EVEN KILL
Let’s Go Birds!! 🦅 Hopefully Jalen can get back in the groove in Week 2
What groove? He’s been garbage for well over a year now
@@frederikbrandt424 Yo my B dawg. I guess starting 10-1 last year is trash these days.
@@Captn_Obvious How did it end?
@@frederikbrandt424 A playoff appearance, Saquon Barkley, and a now factional offense. @ me in 11 weeks when they are 10-1 again ✌🏻
Love was slipping at the top of his drop all night. I hope the low throws from Hurts were a product of him not being comfortable with his footing.
His issue was poor decision making. No field is gonna fix that.
@@terrythegnome2408 lol this comment was specifically about the low throws that JT mentioned in the video.
J love. When do we get j love?
ABOUT TIME! THANK YOU!
Yes sir
Against man-on-man coverage, passing schemes should have more man-beaters. Very few rub routes, mesh concepts, and bunch formations. It reminds me a lot of Sirianni's schemes and not Kellen Moore's. More has incorporated things he does well into this offense, but a lot of it still is too similar to last year's basic passing trees.
Did you put HANK BASKETT up there? 😂😂😂
the hanks
Jalen will be an MVP candidate this year. Just needs to get used to a new system (again) and a new center. Things will iron out and he’ll go back to 2022 form
😮
Delusional. Look at the tape!!!!
No he won’t
What? He was BAD last year. He started out bad, again this year. There are no excuses for a QB that has a ton of weapons.
@@dmayfield125He was an MVP candidate last year even with the turnovers until they started losing. He will get back there again.
Will Levis next?
Do another one
Hopefully for Hurts he has continuity in the coaching in years to come, but I doubt that’s gonna happen in this organisation!
How did Greenbay lose this game?
rough one… go birds tho
31:29 ok that Interception Hurts did not need to leave the pocket and he Had Dallas Goedert open for a TD 🤦🏽♂️
Still doesn’t want to throw over the middle, and, given the picks, will probably be even less likely in the future.
7 got away with illegal contact on the pick. I would have called some sort of screen and punted
first pick was off on timing, he threw too late and behind, seen smitty slow down there. that's a lack of real reps thing imo. the fumble, another lack of real reps thing. the 2nd pick was another late release. the other almost picks were BAD BAD decisions
How can siriani keep his job when he's an offensive guy that doesn't believe in motion and having hot routes built in to offense?
Hank. The new tush push.
Not Hank Baskett 😭 up there
38:15 Why does Jalen keep running right, and AJ had the complete end zone middle to the left wide open. He doesn't think well w/in-game decisions.
It's been years with Jalen not throwing off of a proper platform. Why hasn't a top notch quarterback coach been brought in to teach him fundamentals?
Do you think his fundamentals were crappy his whole career? Even in his Superbowl year?? 👀
@@neetrab Yes.
Why’d this one take so long?
sure hope hurts watches this - awesome stuff - thanks
😂
Hurts’ throwing fundamentals are not good… His lower body and feet need a lot of work . He never closes down to lineup his feet properly.
Plus, his throwing arm position when setting up is not coordinated with his lower body.
Throwing coach is not getting it done…If he was on a pitching mound in baseball, he would have trouble throwing strikes…
Compare his fundamentals to Brady!
He couldn't do what you wanted him to do on that crappy field
Bad throw but the ball was going to saquon, he was on the ground
NICK SIRIANNI hands all still in the pot. You can tell by the same plays from last year being called.
I have 3 issues with my team on offense
1: Jalen all too often tells the defense exactly where he is going with his eyes and body and also doesn't deviate unless hes under extreme pressure or his option is locked down tight
2: Jalen allllllllllllllllllll to often has a player all but doing jumping jacks they are so open and he doesn't see them. He needs to read the field better
3: Some of our offensive players don't scramble to get open after they run their route or if the defender has anticipated the route correctly. These guys need to do whatever it takes to get open so he has options
Honorable mention: We send players in motion that we are never going to throw the ball too and it's not fooling anyone.
This area could
Improve I agree.
3: We agree
HM: This isn't just referring to that any new scheme they may be running now, I can't tell you how many times I've seen them try to read the defense by moving a piece of the puzzle on the board but then not use it.
Do you think Jalen Hurts can be a full field QB?
Jalen’s slow processing throughout this game made me really upset.
Chill. He's still learning ANOTHER new offense and no preszn play at all. He'll be fine
I pity Atlanta!
