    The small Thai town of Pattani has gone to the birds -- literally. The town's economy is booming after residents started collecting bird saliva.
    Sea Swift nests, used to make birds' nest soup and made from hardened saliva, sell for $2,000 a kg. A few years ago, the birds inexplicably started colonising Pattani. Now, all the residents have got in on the act. As one resident states: "We used to live here. But now we're going to move to make space for the birds."

    i had bird nest soup be4, its taste amazing and the texture of the bird nest is almost like jelly. To the ppl who think this is disgusting, what is wrong with you? think of alot of food we commonly eat today, its full of chemicals that modifies quality and shelf life. If ppl prefer to eat Mcdonalds over this natural delicacy, its their loss.

    Actually, it's like eating agar agar, smells like freshly boiled eggs and contains a variety of proteins, vitamins and minerals.
    The nests are harvested AFTER the chicks have flown the nest (and are therefore empty) and instead of going to caves, today, bird's nests are harvested from apartment styled swiftlets.
    At least that's how it's done in M'sia.

    i ate this is thailand and it tasted awesome... but if they start building buildings just to house birds to get more nests, demands will become more and more easier to meet and the value will go down. definitely worth the try though.

    Because it is made from the byproducts of a BIRD, this has a number of communicable diseases, so yeah, if you think it's a bit nasty, it is. You could get a number of horrible symptoms from eating this stuff.

  • @SmolShibu
    @SmolShibu 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    birds nest soup tastes pretty good. and if you say its nasty then why eat a chicken's egg? same concept, so dont judge food before you actually try it.
