The height inconsistencies used to be such a meme when the show was airing lol. There'd pretty much be different artists every other episode who drew the characters differently, like height wise or with Amethyst's hair. If you look closer there's times where Lapis is around Pearl's height and other times where shes shorter. Same with Steven and Connie.

I think the balloons represent Garnets different opinions with her parts, red (Garnet ruby) wanted Ruby to stay and blue (sapphire, the one with future vision) knew Ruby was gonna leave
I think it was more about the unpredictability. Garnet sees futures as options, as small things affect the outcomes. She hoped that the future where navy stayed would be true, but she knew that there were futures where she left than there were that she stayed. So she just planned for all possible outcomes.
Gems don't breathe. It's why they can go under water. Their bodies are made of light, and they can simulate human body functions, but they don't need them exactly. Also, in regards to Steven and his "destiny", everyone else on the crystal gems, as well as all the humans that Rose knew, had Rose in their life. And as obvious as that statement is, I think it's easy to forget that Steven never actually had Rose there to be Rose for him. He is slowly filling her place as he ages, but he's doing it without the guidance of Rose, who isn't just a leader or symbol of hope for him. She's also his mom, and taking a step back and really looking at how much growth Steven has gone through with the gems without her there to empower and encourage him the same way the others had it makes Steven an even stronger and more mature person than he outwardly comes across as in my opinion.
Also what garnet said in her backstory is “why are we here” and rose let her know it’s okay to just exist, and this is the same answer the garnet gave peridot when peridot asked the reason she stayed fused when she wasn’t doing anything
peridot and lapis sitting on the tractor is such a cute little moment, i love whenever steven visits them and we see them having a little moment together. It's a nice look into the life they have at the barn.
I think Steven saying, "sooner or later I'm going to understand what I'm for" is so impactful. Gems come out immediately knowing what they're for, it just makes me think about how being partially raised by the Crystal Gems has affected the way he views himself. He wants to be like the people he loves, but he was made to be himself

@@Scootx well, it's a team of artists, so the same ones will always be shuffling around. The way the show was made, they didn't write a script. They wrote by storyboard, which means basically they drew a simple comic for the episode, the team would comment on it, and make edits, and then they would send that to the animation studio to draw it. The animation studio follows the storyboard character designs. So, if one artist draws Peridot extra smol, then you get an episode where she's extra smol.
For those who are new and are confused why lapis is so upset, just imagine doing something you like for and instrument for example , imagine you worked so hard and tried so much to be good at it and then finally getting the hang of it just for someone new to come around and be good at everything

I think why Lapis was mad because she was jealous of Ruby/Navy becoming well adjusted more faster and easier and connecting with the gems like she knew them for years. Lapis was used to being tormented on Earth so much that she's frustrated at Navy and herself how easy it was for Navy but how difficult it was for Lapis, even guilty that if she was more open like Navy, maybe she could've been with Steven way earlier without trying to escape. Also fusions in Steven universe do have their own identity but they can split into 2 or more and fusions form when gems are emotionally and physically bonded together. Steven can't really split and he was only born from Rose, and Rose's gem passed onto him. He is Rose but at the same time, he's not. It's really confusing.
i legitimately love all three of these episodes. and the whole "you just have to be you" is so refreshing as a lesson. and it's such a good message for kids to see, they dont have to have a purpose or "live up to family expectations" they are worth something just being THEM. and it's nice to have a protagonist who DOESNT learn they were destined for greatness...they just were born to exist and be themselves
Tiger Philanthropist is alright, and it's nice to see that Amethyst feels confident enough in herself so she no longer has to find refuge in her Purple Puma persona, but unfortunately it almost meant one less quirky thing about Amethyst. Room For Ruby was the first episode where I felt that the Crewniverse were sacrificing fidelity to previous canon for the sake of scoring cliched dramatic points. Navy was fooled just as badly as the rest of her squad by the baseball and Amethyst-as-Jasper shenanigans, and it's demonstrated by the Ruby Squad and our Ruby herself that Rubies have very little self-control (remember how much our Ruby struggled keeping in character back at the Zoo Station?)...and yet Navy can somehow invent a whole new character (with no knowledge how it would work against Steven...Eyeball may have known about Rose Quartz's personality traits but not really Steven's) and keep it at perfect pitch until the DUM-DUM-DUMMMMMMM revelation. Steven didn't fully trust Peridot back in season two but now gives the keys of the only modern Gem tech at their disposal to a Ruby he'd blown into space and not bothered to rescue? Also, what the heck is going on with Garnet? She's been letting Steven down this whole season. Lapis has cold disdain for anybody or anything not Steven Quartz Universe. She may have reason to be, but not trusting Navy is just being the broken clock that has the right time twice a day. Steven is starting to go down a dark path based on little more than delusion and prejudice. The only entity who spoke about a destiny for Steven was Garnet back in The Return, and I'm wondering why Steven feels he can't talk to his father or Connie about his concerns.

To my mind, Lapis being angry is a reaction to toxic positivity. She may not have the words for it, but as someone who has been manipulated before, she can tell on some level Navy is being fake. Really changing, especially changing sides in the middle of a war, takes guts, and grit, and challenges. It’s hard and a long journey. Even if Navy truly meant to change sides, her behavior of just pretending everything is instantly okay isn’t a sincere emotional reaction and makes true reflection and responsibility impossible. People who always chase good vibes tend not to be good people.

I cant remember their names for this episode, but one draws lapis with more messy hair with spikes in the front and back while the other draws her with neat hair. One artist draws peridot taller with the slightly messy hair in the corners while the other draws her shorter with neat hair and much larger hair. They even draw the eyes different. One draws larger eyes with smaller pupils and the other draws smaller eyes with larger pupils. There is always teams of 2 artists and each episode has different artists. Sometimes its one pair or sometimes its multiple pairs. This episode had big criticism for lapis and peridot design, but it looks like one artist did the first half and the other did the second half. Likely due to being busy or some other reason. Each episode has characters that look slightly different because of the artist pairs so I wouldn't look much into small changes like height.
The thing about peridots size has to do that Steven Universe is made by two animation studios depending on the episode and made by different artists and animators. Also I'm excited for you reacting to the end of season 4. A lot of episodes in mid season 4 are pretty weak compared to the rest of the series.

Listening to you theorize about the show is hilarious to me, you sound exactly like OG fans when the show aired, we had watch parties for new episodes and were constantly throwing theories around. I know it's infuriating how long this show drags out the lore but we wouldn't have the same show without all the details in between. I really don't like when Peridot is tiny but has giant triangular hair. Also sometimes Lapis' is too bright and her hair is too flat. I prefer when her hair has more volume/shape to it, like when it's messy. Peridot looks really weird when her hair is 60% of her body though.
For an example of the Peridot design I *REALLY* don't like, look at where you paused at 12:08. That hair is way too big and the body is way too small. It's so weird.

Listening to you theorize about the show is hilarious to me, you sound exactly like OG fans when the show aired, we had watch parties for new episodes and were constantly throwing theories around. I know it's infuriating how long this show drags out the lore but we wouldn't have the same show without all the details in between. I'm so glad I found this channel, this is the first good reaction to SU I've found yet and I'm so sad I'm almost caught up, and so sad you're almost finished. It feels like S1 drags when you know how the show goes afterwards, and then the rest FLIES by.

I really don't like when Peridot is tiny but has giant triangular hair. Also sometimes Lapis' is too bright and her hair is too flat. I prefer when her hair has more volume/shape to it, like when it's messy. Peridot looks really weird when her hair is 60% of her body though.
For an example of the Peridot design I *REALLY* don't like, look at where you paused at 12:08. That hair is way too big and the body is way too small. It's so weird.
