    Don't really know why cars like this are not more popular in the US. I much prefer wagons over a cross over and most SUVs in terms of styling. Better gas mileage, plenty of room, and much more fun to drive.

      The TDI (diesel) that they don’t make anymore got amazing mileage per gallon, similar to the Toyota Prius, and with plenty of power (torque).

    I recently got a 2018 vw sportwagen 4motion with dsg with 8k miles for $16,800. I think it was a pretty good deal. Just did 21 hour trip in 2 days, and was not sore at all at the end of it. I had it loaded to the gills, as I was moving, and it performed great on the highway and had no issues passing people. Can't wait to get a stage 1 on it.

    I bought a Golf Sportwagen S 4Motion this Summer- love It. My first AWD car, it climbed through 6” of unplowed snow up our steep Litchfield County, Connecticut hills w/ the original equipment all season tires like it was a billy goat. I intententionally started up our hill from a dead stop- no problem whatsoever. All my previous cars were FWD and I put 4 snows on- many times it took several attempts to get up our hill, with crazy running starts for momentum. Don’t need to do that crazy stuff anymore! If anyone is looking for a much more expensive looking and feeling car with AWD, this is it.

    We currently have two cars: a 2001 (B5 chassis) Passat wagon and a 2016 Golf Sportwagen, both 1.8T / tiptronic. A wagon built on a sport sedan chassis provides an absolutely unbeatable combination of driving experience, rear headroom, side/rear visibility, cargo space, etc. Americans are missing out.

    I have a 2011 TDI Sportwagon. I couldn't be happier with a daily driver. Sleek(but understated) Euro lines. A Comfortable, engaging, enjoyable driver, oodles of usable interior space while being agile and easily managed in crowded parking-lots and parallel parking situations. Simple and infrequent 'shade-tree' maintenance for the DIY owner, and 40+MPG is regularly enjoyed with as much as 50MPG on longer trips. The 'Left' and their Global-warming crusaders hate the TDI platform, but they seem to hate everything that in-fact works.

    We are taking delivery of this same car, plus the drivers assistance package in a few days. An unsold 2019. We have an Outback as well, but I couldn't see buying another one, with the soft, numb road feel. The Sportwagen was a great second family car choice, slightly smaller, easy for the kids to handle. I may have to try a manual someday.

    Ford EcoSport 2019 : 50 cubic feet
    Mazda CX-5 2019 : 59.6 cubic feet
    Golf Sportwagen 2019 : 66.5 cubic feet
    Toyota Rav 4 2019 : 69.8 cubic feet

      I wanted a Golf sportwagen S 4Motion last year, but the dealers within 100 miles of me don't offer discounts and they didn't have any 6 speed manual on the lot, you had to order it. I couldn't touch one of these for under 24k last year when I was new car shopping so I had to pass and buy a Ford. I mean $24k still isn't bad for an AWD wagon, but why do some areas/states get such discounts and others don't? >:(

      Only thing about making engine mods or certain mods in particular is that you will probably void the factory warranty. If the car is paid off doesn't matter, but if you are making payments you might want to reconsider doing certain mods until it is paid off.

    • @t1mlocas
      @t1mlocas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Snake-ms7sj There's this famous sentence : you gotta pay to play !! IMO it's more important to make sure you have some room in your budget for some repairs, no matter if you still have monthly payments or not. You must make sure that you can afford the repairs that wouldn't be covered. But I see it as an opportunity to improve the car because I make mods slowly. Currently I am stage 1. If I blow the turbo.... time to get IS20 and move to stage 2. Same for the clutch.

    • @Snake-ms7sj
      @Snake-ms7sj 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@t1mlocas To each thier own. If people want to void thier warranty that is thier decision of course. Some things won't void the warranty such as a cat back exhaust. For those that want to improve the performance a little and yet keep the factory warranty intact, I suggest doing a little research as to what will and won't void a factory warranty. The 6 speed manual Sportwagen S 4motion will do the mid to high 6's 0-60 mph. The VW dealers within 100 miles of me charge retail ($25k) for a 4motion.

    Sam is correct. My 2018 SE came fitted with Korea sourced all season tires. Noisy. Poor grip. Jarring ride. They were swapped at 1100 miles. There are many tires that are better suited to the Sportwagen's capabilities and intended application than those mounted at the factory on my particular car.
    My car was acquired to replace a luxury sedan and a luxury compact SUV. The Sportwagen is not a luxury car substitute by any stretch. Nevertheless, the seats, driving dynamics (with good tires) and infotainment system (VW's is superior in most respects) rival that of the replaced vehicles.
    Point being, the Sportwagen is a very fine car and can reasonably be expected to perform above its real price point.
    So far as MPG...I routinely realize 32 MPG on surface roads. Keeping the speedometer under 80 MPH will yield 37 MPG at sea level with the A/C switched on. Again, this is a 2018 with the 6-speed Tiptronic transmission. The economy specs will be different for 2019 - almost certainly better.

The Hankooks emitted overwhelming road noise. Buyers in other locations may not share the complaint. My sentiments coincide with Mathieu's. VW should stick with Continental, Michelin or one of the premium Japanese or American brands for tire fitment. Shoddy tires cheapen the car and the ownership experience. A poor value.

      @@exeuroweenie I have enjoyed Continentals on several cars. No complaints with any of them. I opted for Michelin Pilot Sport A3+ a/s tires for the Sportwagen. They are not as quiet as less aggressive options. But the car has been transformed. That much said, I have also had nice tires from Toyo, Yokohama and even a great set of GoodYears. I have used some others but I'm not here to degrade any manufacturer and the "others" don't need to be called out. There is no such thing as a good bargain tire in my experience.

    The author is really enamored with trivial cosmetic features, especially when it comes to lighting. He also prioritizes features like blind spot monitoring, collision alert, and adaptive cruise control not realizing that people who buy the S model do so because they don't want to spend extra money on unnecessary features, like sunroofs, that cause repairs down the line. He believes buyers should be forced to buy options they don't want.
