The power is reserved for every thing connected to the grid. Even if it's turned off. The grid will supply from the least amount needed to the most. Since the electric smelter is the most expensive powerwise, it will be disabled. I like to use a separated grid for the lights.
Some tips, credit to those that mentioned any of these already: - There's no reason to go beyond flint arrows. Flint arrows take 1 iron ore. Steel arrows take 6 iron ore and 1 coal. The extra damage for the rest of the arrows isn't worth the resource cost. - Getting the last slot in the water wheel with a sponge is a pain. You basically have to sit there and babysit it. Not worth the hassle. - When I mentioned reinforced beams, I was referring to those that are exposed to the elements. They don't take weather damage. Inside, you can use interior wood beams. They look nicer than the log beams. Also, you can use reinforced railings and shutters for the window (if you don't use glass). They don't take damage (nor does the glass, because it's inside the stone). The reinforced beams, etc, are in the stone section, IIRC. - As far as I've heard, deep ore deposits are not infinite. According to what I've read, they have about 5000 each, depending on the ore. - The alteration bench is amazing. Specifically, the yield attachments for pick axes and the string attachment for bows. - Use cabinets to store your stuff. You can even throw some signs down in front of them. - Interior wood floors will brighten up your rooms. - Squash in the desert, mushrooms in arctic caves. If you get them from a mission, put them in the fridge until you plant them. All crops can grow in any biome, AFAIK. - Water works like power. The amount of each supply is finite. Each bench uses a specific amount. - For placing wires and pipes, I've found that it's best to do the distant runs first, so that you can create straight lines, then put the final junction near the object to connect it. Most of the time, wires and pipes attached to junctions will straighten after a reload, so keep that in mind.
Just a correction: Apparently, I play too many games with building. There isn't a reinforced beam, though there are reinforced railings. But for what it's worth, beams placed in stone or concrete seem to be protected as long as the structure is intact, so you can use interior wood beams in lieu of logs.
Don't go past flint arrows, it's a waste of resources. Cave bow (or better, composite bow like you have) and flint arrows is all you need. Material-wise, it's 6 iron ore for one steel arrow; that's 6 flint arrows! I reckon the person talking about 'reïnforced beams' was talking about refined wood beams (crafted at the Carpentry bench). Apparently spoiled plants will still be added to water wheels, even when it already has 20 sponges in. So unfortunately it won't work to make a maintenance-free water wheel 😞 Water tool and electricity tool seem expensive to make, but don't forget they never run out. Squash grows in the desert (and mushrooms in the arctic)
I would put all the appliances on the water wheel grid, and put all the lighting attached to the generator. That way you can turn off the lights by turning off the generator.
On your power issue, maybe try creating different circuits like your own house does. Eg. One water wheel for a couple your big power draining benches ( depending on how much power is needed) and a seperate one or two for lighting. Great series btw mate, really loving it.
Hey, thank you so much for all you Icarus vidz, enjoying them so much. You don’t need the buffalo or a cart, you can easily ride the ostrich home with several hundred kilos in overweight in own inventory without slowing down the ostrich. I do that all the time clearing out mines.. 😅
You can only get squash from the desert biome usually near they water sources, but you can grow it yourself so you only need one quick trip to the desert to get some for seeds, also for your drills I use Solar panels to power mine since I usually skip night cycles they rarely have downtime
1+ water wheels for the lights depending how many lights you are running. 2-3 water wheels for the benches. Any bench (eg furnace) that is in use a lot could have its own supply. Benches connected to the electricity system draw power on or off. A biofuel generator in an annex keeps the noise away from the house. You could put in a bridge over the river, build a stone annex and place however many generators as you need. They could be used to power the furnaces for example. Take a look at RhinoGaming180 for ways to route the power lines.
I use two power networks, one for the house and everything in it and one for the miners. That way I can more easily troubleshoot if something is not working. You need one waterwheel on every miner. I placed all waterwheels at the house and run long cables to the remote miners. That way I can quickly clean out the waterwheels and use the plants to turn into fertilizer.
lighting in games are usually defined with a light radius, so generally it is nothing like natural light. building natural light from a game light source, like in this game, would be pretty complicated for all scenarios. These type of game lights, you just need to use more and kind of figure out what the best radius is for each type of light source.
power works one after the other. it powers the 1st thing connected then the 2nd then the 3rd and so on and so on until there isnt enough power to activite the next device. also the cables are WONKY sometimes it looks connected but its not. if you KNOW you have enough power and its not working check the cables. even if you ARENT using somehting its STILL USING POWER ..... add more wheels. i have 6 on my base
Another tip for this would be to grab one of the better suits from the orbit Workshop, they can add space for suit improvements, as well as give a spot to add food & water holders in the same way oxygen does... saves on a few spaces ;)
Composite Arrows are best through and through, they only have 5% break chance compared to other arrows and deal most damage, if you scared to loose them get a mod for your bow that highlights your arrows after you shot them. You can also buy arrows from space, they deal even more damage i think and you buy them in stacks of 25. Edit: 1: Composite can be made with either gold or platinum, which ever you need the least. 2: You can not combine multiple power sources into one cable. 3: Squash is in desert biome.
Squash is in the desert biome. With your generator, put all your lights on one generator and all your equipment on one or two others. You should rewire.
I suppose you are not an engineer ;) Wires and pipelines can be a pain in the ass. You must route them below (but we haven't pieces for logistic/technical basements) or above the ceiling, with secondary routes down to each consumer. Anyway, great gameplay... I landed near the big high rock nearby and I start a bunkhouse there on top, because jaguars (they cant climb :D) Starting expanding now to the river, like you do, and I start searching net for deep mining nodes. When I saw your gameplay I recognize the area...
kage you can keep the celling the way you like domed just means you will need more lights electricity flows through a circuit even if the object in question isnt being used for example a lamp plugged into the wall power still flows to it and back even though it is not turned on hence why the power gets divided up when the lamp is turned on the amount of power taken will change depending on what is required. if you place another water wheel on the side of the house where the pump is and only use it for the lights then you wont have any issues even if you have to put railings around it to remind you it is different from the other two
yeah they need to add a breaker box where the breakers can flip make it suck for when there is a storm or you run to many things.....gotta get to the breaker box and flip the breakers one by one lol.
its the same developers as their previous game Stationeers and electricity in the game works fine with un-powered devices not using power, i guess they forgot exporting the coding to this game
If you cant go to the desert your only way to get squash is as reword from misions Electric drils start up as soon as they get power so you can mae electric net conecting them all (its a pain maing it but its possible since you can plce wire on the ground and animals for now cant destoy it) and place few solar panels only for them so they will work as soon as sun go up
and for the lights try to put them on both side of your roof parallel to each other.. put beams on your roof so you can easily put it the same way without gauging it..
Lol, your power issue is simple. All electronics draw power depending on their power value at all times. The game doesn’t differentiate between things that are off or on. The only exception is the elec furnace but only before you activate it for the first time. The power draw goes to the lowest values first.
@Kage848 you have a bot spamming your commenters with some bs about a giveaway and to reply on telegram. just thought you might want to know if you don't already.

You CAN wire 2 or more waterwells together, the generated power Will stack, i use 12 on my open world, btw you can wire from yours waterwells to hole map with 0 cost, the eletrical drill for deposits are dope, you realy need to try it.
Why would you take something awesome and make it boring? Those high ceilings were the best part of the base! (if only they had skylights for the sloped roof pieces) It'd be cool if they added junction boxes and switches for the electrical system - not just to make things look better, but be easier to trace. Something to show you what's connected into your grid (like in The Infected) would be great.
Could be a long shot but why not use 1 water wheel per 2 machines. The use a separate water wheel per each floor of lights. Might be a lot of water wheels but it will be more distributed
The kitchen snaps. You sure it isn't eating power from this? It could also be a bug. I'm fairly confident this isn't Kage's first experience with a bug given the number of early access/beta games he plays.
why not run a water wheel solely for the furnance and then one for lights etc that way all lights are maintained by the one wheel and if that wheel stops the furnance wont just dont run any of the wheel lines that are for the furnance anywhere else
Looks like power runs on a budget, and not on a ‘use capacity’ like real electronics. Kinda shitty IMO, like you said, if you power off the lights then the rest of the powered objects should work. But now we know, this helps me, as I was having similar issues last time I played and couldn’t figure it out
Suggestion why not separate power grids maybe put two water wheels for all the machines and one water wheel for all the lights and the fridge the smaller stuff
Steel Arrows ALL THE WAY!! Not a FAN of the new Ceiling, ruined the sexy look ya has goin on, in the hall way... But I Get it!! Cool IDEA about the sponges in the Water wheel!!
Hunting rifle is a worthwhile investment but is def end game so maybe stretch it out like you’re thinking with arrows so this amazing series doesn’t end anytime soon!
Why not make more water wheels, if you have x3 or x4 you would have more than enough power to power anything you have and any future machines/lights etc
The devs got the litthing better thats fallout 76.... they just didn't get the lights the way you want them... sooo yeah there's the difference.... just put the solid roof underneath the arches. Also find something to do with all the dead space you're making.... the kitchen now a second unneeded second floor.... not gunna lie the builds are way bigger than they need to be.
The cart is trash and slow your best bet is just ride a tamed animal out and fill your inventory up even when you're overweight in doesn't matter riding a mount

1 furnace = 2500 power, 1 fridge = 500 power, ceiling lights are 150 power each. So you can only power 6 lights before you run out of your 4000 power
I've been wondering why kage doesn't make another water wheel for a while now

I thought the high ceiling added so much character & looked so good. The beams with the lights were great. So sad you changed it 😢
Just use more lights. I like the open feeling of the great hall
Put a ladder and hatch in one of the corners to access the “crawl space” above the new ceiling
You definitely don’t need water to cook. I just makes it faster. Some food needs water but you can put a wet sponge or canteen in there for the water.
One word for lights Kage... 'Candles'
FYSA, the best way to get bone that I’ve found is the geysers. Get a varporator thing and get tones of bone!
You get squash from the desert, usually around lakes.
FLINT ARROWS, You won't need anything stronger buddy. Keep up the great play 🤘🤘
I make composite composite is cheaper or easier to make the carbon
You def have the best Icaris gameplay channel.
I had the same problem at my base , u have a wir that isn't connected right , I had to take all my wires out and start over again to fix the problem
power works one after the other. it powers the 1st thing connected then the 2nd then the 3rd and so on and so on until there isnt enough power to activite the next device. also the cables are WONKY sometimes it looks connected but its not. if you KNOW you have enough power and its not working check the cables. even if you ARENT using somehting its STILL USING POWER ..... add more wheels. i have 6 on my base
Add a point into the sign blueprint, put signs in front of you cupboard to label what is in it.
Should also look at the attachments benches. there are mods for armour that add 30kg carry weight and 12 extra slots.
Another tip for this would be to grab one of the better suits from the orbit Workshop, they can add space for suit improvements, as well as give a spot to add food & water holders in the same way oxygen does... saves on a few spaces ;)

I'm running 4 solar for my work stations and 3 water wheels for fridges, lights and water pumps. Two separate grids.
I suppose you are not an engineer ;) Wires and pipelines can be a pain in the ass. You must route them below (but we haven't pieces for logistic/technical basements) or above the ceiling, with secondary routes down to each consumer.

If you put 1 spoiled plant in each slot of the water wheel, then they will just keep filling up and you won't have room to accumulate sponges.
kage you can keep the celling the way you like domed just means you will need more lights electricity flows through a circuit even if the object in question isnt being used for example a lamp plugged into the wall power still flows to it and back even though it is not turned on hence why the power gets divided up when the lamp is turned on the amount of power taken will change depending on what is required. if you place another water wheel on the side of the house where the pump is and only use it for the lights then you wont have any issues even if you have to put railings around it to remind you it is different from the other two
Oxite isn't limited kage I just a award of mining 10k oxite nodes in one world and I've only gathered 5 percent of oxite
And let's do math 10k nodes I get 30 to 40 per node and it's only 5 percent
I’m finding copper to be the most scarce resource with how many things use it
I believe if you leave the tree stump it’ll grow back as a 🌲
Connect the water pipe to the masonry work bench to speed up your stone building process
yeah they need to add a breaker box where the breakers can flip
make it suck for when there is a storm or you run to many things.....gotta get to the breaker box and flip the breakers one by one lol.
its the same developers as their previous game Stationeers and electricity in the game works fine with un-powered devices not using power, i guess they forgot exporting the coding to this game
You've got a buff when you washed your hands in the sink.
A floor across the center of the bridge would allow you a place for storge above the stations that need them
If you cant go to the desert your only way to get squash is as reword from misions

You got mushrooms from the cache. Get them planted and you are good to go. If you lose them then you need to go cave hunting in the arctic biomes.
U could probably use interior wood for them beams going across
CTRL-Shift click will move all stacks of a particular item. Like moving 5 stacks of iron into the cabinet
Bones are the only renewable resource for arrows, so I'll stick to them.
You either need a separate power grid (like a small power grid for lights) or you need more power
You're silly, make another waterwheel, and give the electric furnace it's exclusive power source.
Lol, your power issue is simple. All electronics draw power depending on their power value at all times. The game doesn’t differentiate between things that are off or on. The only exception is the elec furnace but only before you activate it for the first time. The power draw goes to the lowest values first.
You're probably gonna need to put the furnace on its own circuit.
great series.

Squash is in the desert
It’s probably 10 arrows for one copper like the nails but that’s just a guesstimate lol
Use the water wheels to constantly power the appliances and use the bench as a switch to power the lights
You CAN wire 2 or more waterwells together, the generated power Will stack, i use 12 on my open world, btw you can wire from yours waterwells to hole map with 0 cost, the eletrical drill for deposits are dope, you realy need to try it.
Put a storage cabinet beside each work bench to hold the materials for that bench
Put the sponges in the reservoir? Then you have easy access to water.
you made it ougly ( i liked the great room feel )
Also if you use interior wood floors the lights get bright
Autominers dont need protection. Neither from animals neither from nature. Exept the exotic miners.I got mine attacked by a wolf.
do u have exotic miner on open world? I've read that u cant mine exotic on open world.

three water wheels ?
@Kage. Squash are found in the desert.
My house is pretty near @Kage house, and I found them outside my house and around the big see..
The kitchen snaps. You sure it isn't eating power from this? It could also be a bug. I'm fairly confident this isn't Kage's first experience with a bug given the number of early access/beta games he plays.
I think its because you don't want to mine the oxite but you can mine a 1000 in 10 mins
There should be a trick to put the beam in the middle - might have to construct something else first - people have made circles in this game ;)
Ghostbuilds!
More lights and/or glass ceiling
why not run a water wheel solely for the furnance and then one for lights etc that way all lights are maintained by the one wheel and if that wheel stops the furnance wont just dont run any of the wheel lines that are for the furnance anywhere else
You don't need the lower lights in the workshop.
if you low of power source kage, why not build another water wheel and separate it's supply

Oxide limited? Oxide respawns everywhere, more than any other ore to be honest.

I think Icarus has some issues with power and how it’s gets connected to the network maybe it’s a sum of all vs what u use
Use the interior wood roofs
It doesn't matter if the lights are on or off it's taking the electricity

Just build 2 more water wheels
The cart is trash and slow your best bet is just ride a tamed animal out and fill your inventory up even when you're overweight in doesn't matter riding a mount
