You can tell how the house is starting to breathe easily again. The atmosphere has already totally changed for the better. It will be so glorious when done! Cant wait for the next video!
I've never heard the expression breathe easy applied to a house but it certainly fits! I too smile each time I see a wall come down. The house must also be smiling!❤
Every time an unnecessary piece of old wall, ceiling or stud work comes down, I smile a bit more and the house seems to do the same. I can only guess how excited you and your family are to see it. I love the fact that you are getting professional advice along the way, so that your efforts move you forward with minimum disasters. Great effort! Thank you for including us.
Your decision to initially tackle the overgrown landscaping is right on. While you are working on the inside, the outside is recovering on its own. Such great progress you are making. It's a tough balance between working for progress and setting up the film shots. Thanks for including us.
I totally agree with this. In my reno I started with the garden much to protests from my husband. 7yrs on the house is finished and the garden has matured and filled out perfectly for the home.
I am enjoying watching this, no fancy anything, just amateurs doing some honest work. They don't want to be YT stars, and all the better for it. You get my thumbs up, and good luck to you, it will make a wonderful home.
Thank you! I think the project is enough work without trying to make a serious business out of youtube too. It's a nice way to document the project though.
Yes it was a strange way to do things, it must have been cheaper, I was thinking if the handrail might be original but the metal rods certainly aren’t, but I could be wrong it has been known lol.
Oh mein Gott, es liegt noch viel Arbeit an, aber wenn alles einmal fertig ist, ist es bestimmt wunderschön und man kann sagen: das habe ich bzw.wir alles geschafft . 👍
That opening up of the stairwell pays immediate dividends as light starts flooding the space again after being closed off for so long which will be so nice to see as other areas see the same type of reveals!Much Success to you as it looks like a phenomenal property - always nice to see derelict classic facade properties brought back to shine Architecturally again!Cheers from Canada!
I think you are doing a tremendous job. It just crossed my mind what the builders, both original and those who constructed all those apartments, must think of your work. Keep up all the great work, but don’t let yourself get exhausted.
How great to see some of the partition walls coming down! It is lovely to see the original proportions of the rooms coming back to life again. I've been looking forward to that!
I hoped the decorative bit around the ceiling light hid under the false ceiling. You can see that it was there at one time. You have completed a massive amount of demolition! Removing the walls around the stairwell really brings the house back to life!
Already the house is beginning to breathe - such a difference - now the landing wall has gone, you can begin to see the house revealing itself. So thanks, Emma N' Charlie, for keeping us in the loop so exciting. Janice 😊
You've made a huge amount of progress in a very short time. Opening up the rooms and the main staircase has already made such a difference! At least the asbestos is limited to a smaller area, but it will be reassuring to know it is out of the house and safer. Really enjoy your videos, looking forward to the updates.
Oh, that false ceiling!!! What an improvement removal of that will be. And the stairs look so much better. It will be a relief when the asbestos sheeting is gone, gone, gone! Thanks for sharing.
I am amazed at your progress and I am sure the Rectory is smiling as well. You are revealing some of the beauty that you knew was there. Thank you for taking us along on your journey!
Lots of work and the possibilities of what you're looking for are beginning to show through. Thanks for bringing us along---I can imagine it's a bit of a pain filming it all----we appreciate your work and have our fingers crossed for your ultimate success.
I love how you've uncovered the staircase - all the beautiful banisters now can shine and the sun can brighten the space. Like that you've included engineers for advice. Thank you for taking us on your virtual progress, step-by-step. Looking forward to your next video. This eventually will be a beautiful home for a family. Thank you for sharing.
I've enjoyed watching your progress very much. The house is already beginning to look more spacious. It's going to be a gorgeous home when you are finished.
Amazing progress!!! Here in Canada, asbestos was added to drywall compound for a period of time around the middle 1900s and is frequently encountered in home renovations. Asbestos was wrapped around hot water pipes and also found its way into linoleum floor tiles.
I just love the classical symmetry of Georgian houses and the amount of light that comes into the rooms. This will be a fabulous home when it’s completed. I know it’s expensive, but that aluminium joinery really needs to go. It will make an enormous difference putting the right windows back in. One of the great things about Georgian houses is that the rooms do not need lots of furnishings to look right. The Georgians unlike the Victorians did not go for clutter. The rooms were often painted or wallpapered in light colours with a few tasteful pieces of high quality furniture to give a sense of spaciousness and elegance. You guys are doing a great job and I’m excited to see the progress.
So lovely to see that wall gone on the landing at the top of the stairs and all to run electrical which could've been done differently. Love that you can make the bathrooms larger depending on how many you want to keep. UGH! Why put up a false ceiling and ruin the height of the room?? I mean that was just stupid. So glad you and Emma bought this home! From the other video, Emma is so right. This house needed love and you're going to make her shine again!
It's going really well, this is my favorite part of a remodel/restoration bc it becomes almost a blank canvas and it is a good time to shore up the bones. Well done, and God bless.
@@nicolad8822 yes it’s safe unless it’s crumbling & dusty. My 1970s house has asbestos but I’ve no intention of ripping it apart & it’s in good condition.
Yes! You should absolutely plan that hallway around a massive Christmas tree! Brilliant idea. And that open upstairs hallway is a very convenient spot from which to put the star on top. Glad you’re back but sorry about your sweet little pup. ❤
The lighting in each of those rooms, once the walls were removed, is simply incredible! It I’ll look HUGE when renovation continues. Hang in! Good luck.
Such a mess and yet such a relief! Opening up the staircase was a wonderful achievement and indicative of how the rest of the house will feel once all demolition is completed. You can sense the house starting to breathe again - one great big inhale that may last weeks. I imagine you feel the same. How lovely it is.
Thank you for sharing the renovation process with us. Love how you are opening things up, bringing in so much light. Good to know where the asbestos is at.
I'm so glad you took out that false ceiling and let the natural height of the room help restore its presence as a parlour or study. Not sure what its original purpose was, but positioned at the back of the house, where it would be quieter back in the day, the occupants would have had a grand view of the lawns. Perfect room in which to read a book, do some sewing or knitting, or simply relax with a glass of port after a fine meal.
Those red marks look really scary! Can't wait to see how it looks once all the asbestos is gone. Looks like it will change that part of the house completely.
How refreshing. For a person who knows nothing about all this , you are doing things very intelligently! I would have no idea who to even call. Ghostbusters?
This will be gorgeous! Yes just keep mowing at a regular rate and it will soon turn back into green lawn as it should. Opinion from a farmer‘s daughter 😊👍🏻
Lovely to see the proportions ofthe old house/rooms coming back. I have worked in many old houses over 😮 been converted (badly) for institutional use. The staircases were especially horrid and enclosed to conform to fire regs apparently…often using asbestos board…but one had an 18 th century staircase which we were allowed to keep open because it was of architectural historical importance! Also…do hope you are going to have a drain survey with a camera/film. They aren’t cheap but are really helpful to highlight any probs/future maintenance AND help explain what drain is going where😀. Good luck, Jinxy
Every success to you on your renovation...it's marvelous to see your progress...it's a beautiful house and will be absolutely fabulous when completed.👏🤩
Those two walls are going to make the flow of this house so much better, so it doesnt feel like a maze, awesome! Im so glad you posted that first video, asbestos is so terrible. It caused lung cancer that spread and killed my grandpa and I have a friend who grew up where it was mined in Montana, US amd she has scarred lungs with limited capacity and only one compromised kidney. Such a crime the company and state hid the danger from people
It makes sense that Asbestos was used around the smaller stair well, to make it as fire proof as possible. My father in law had an old ironing board that had been his mother's, with an Asbestos plate to put the iron on.
That is great seeing that hallway opened up. So awesome to see the old apartment partitions coming down allowing it to look more like the home you have envisioned. Good job.
We built a house on a farm field the grass was not good, my husband cut it and like you left the grass. The end result was amazing, lovely lawn. Good luck. Very interesting to view.
If you can get your hands on a reciprocating saw with a metal cutting blade you can make quick work of those stud walls (cutting at the nailing points) and salvage the timber for future use. It looks to be old dimensional cut 2 x 4. Nice stuff to have on hand. Great to see the old place coming back to life!
Hip hip hooray for family! No renovation is possible without them. even if they cannot physically be there ... the emotional support is always welcome. Glad your dog can help too. Looks like the dog is ready to go play in all these really nice big rooms you will have.

p.s. well done finding all that asbestos, I uncovered some in our 1960's internal garage a few weeks ago which we'll have to get professionally removed. seems it was used to prevent fire spreading which may well be the reason it is in a lot of constructed partition walls in your place. when I mentioned it to our neighbour (as his house was built at the same time as ours) he said just remove it yourself. i presume he did that when he was refurbing his place. safe to say I won't be doing it myself. glad to see your stripping out is going well. such an exciting project.

Lovely to see the natural light flood in to these spaces.
Lovely seeing that dreadful hallway wall start to come down!
Bizarrely shoddy that they built them next to a banister and on top of carpet...
Shoddy but it's good they didn't do it properly and removed the bannister. But ON TOP of carpet!

Hi Emma & Charlie, opening the staircase has brought in so much light. And you have done so much work, looking good
