  • I put this on here because I had a hard time finding any good reviews/info on pulling heavy up long steep grades with the Ford v10... Maybe this will help some of you guys out that are trying to decide between a diesel and a gasser.
Friend filming from the back seat of my 2002 f350 85k miles, 2wd with max tow package and 8k air bags with 4 spd auto and 3:73 gears climbing a 6-7% grade pulling 13k lb trailer.
Sold my 06 Duramax due to constant front end issues and didn't feel like dumping $25k into another 10 year old lbz with 150k miles so I bought this for $9500. Does it pull like the dmax? Not even close! My lbz pulled 13k effortlessly. Does the 2v v10 get the job done? Absolutely! I averaged right at 10 mpg with this load and never felt underpowered but it spends a lot of time out of overdrive around 2700 rpm at 65 mph, but never really broke a sweat. My dmax in the other hand averaged 13.5 mpg with same load and would only drop out of overdrive on long steep climbs. It had a tow tune and was straight piped. I loved the dmax allison combo, but I'd have to spend at list twice the money on an equal lbz to my v10, so the initial financial investment reasons alone make the Ford V10 worth the loss of performance to me... nevermind the maintenance of the LBZ and that damn GM front end. Anyways, long video and description but maybe it'll help some of you out.
