Since the Fenix 5 Garmin has defined "Smartwatch Mode" as "Smartwatch mode with activity tracking and 24/7 wrist-based heart rate monitoring" This doesn't include logged activities. Only wrist based always on HR, steps, etc. Disabling sensors, Aod, and more will get you more but not many would care to use their watch not utilizing it's most beneficial tracked metrics.
I've enjoyed your videos. I just upgraded from an Instinct 2X Tactical knowing full well the battery life on the F8 Solar wouldn't be as good as the 2X because of your videos - so I know what to expect regarding the battery life so I'm not too disappointed. For those who are interested I was getting about 20 days per charge from my 2X - the predicted days was always 43 days. I generally do two to three activities per day and have all the smartwatch features on. If I get anything near that on the F8 Solar I'll be impressed. In regards to the solar charging, I had the infinity sign (unlimited days) on the 2X twice - once on a motorcycle trip in Vietnam during the summer and secondly in Queensland Australia during a work trip in the summer (I was outside every day). In Sydney Australia I was generally getting 20 to 50 lux hours per day, so I don't really think the solar charging does that much.
@@bwalbwal7895 I honestly thought about sourcing an instinct 3 amoled Solar just to review it. The combo is very intriguing. I doubt they'll ever go that route with the Fenixs but it gives me hope the microLED F8s will feature solar. With my F7x past couple years I had multiple days over 200 lux hrs. But never really had too significant of a boost in charge to be surprised at how many days I was going without charge. That being said with the F8 I don't really have to think about charging until it notifies me I'm low which is what I rely on. I feel like for the price I should nit pick like I'm doing and I know it really helps people in determining which watch to choose. When spending this much might as well really get critical even if in the end I still love everything I'm getting from my watch as well as it's aesthetic. The Fenixs too also have the ability to create your own power modes if you really want to fine tune how long you want it to go. For instance you can save a bit with shutting off the 24/7 pulse ox and use gesture wake. For me though I like my Aod and pulse ox 24/7. Static GPS will save a boat load too. I think you'll be happy with it. Thanks for watching and your comment. Let me know how you're liking it after you've really dove in. Jealous of your Vietnam trip. 👌
At this point 20 days seems about what I’m gonna get with the Solar. Also solar seems to do very little it will take around 250k lux hours to get 2% and that means a few hours in the sun. I like the watch but I wish I kept my Fenix 8 AMOLED.
@@jamesmc0716 250k lux hours is a lot of sun. On my 7x that was all day in the sun I'm the carribean. I think people will mostly be happier with the amoled this series. Pro's are coming. I'm guessing theyre a lot further out than anyone thinks though.
Battery depends on gps hours, number of notifications, backlight intensity, pulseOx on, etc For me on 7x solar saphire non pro, with 5 hours at week of gps it lasts about 18-19 days. Disconnected every night from phone, hr on, pulse OX off, backlight off. With my configuration without tracking sports with gps i think is possible 28 days more or less.
I agree it's possible potentially with your settings. But who will achieve 29 days first? Has anyone? And what's the point of the sacrifice when these watches are designed to track the body metrics of the wearer 24/7? I think it's silly for Garmin to be listing theoretical possibilities. When I buy the rest of my devices the battery life advertised is the battery life achieved by most. Like why put the smart watch mode numbers first front and center in the table? Because that's where they are.
@jaimealonsocardin2143 I understand that they have to keep the measurements standard accross generations for continuity but if you an average user of a smartwatch and you're not getting the number advertised you're going to be disappointed. Not many users are disabling features like yourself to try and get longer battery life. I challenge anyone to find a person who has achieved advertised smartwatch mode.
@@RoryCONeill the funny thing is with the AMOLED you only have to have AOD off and you’re getting 29-31ish days depending on use. Obviously that’s extreme but it’s easily achieveable and you’re sacrificing nothing in terms of general use of the watch ie stat tracking/gps use etc. At the moment i don’t see anyway of getting 25 days let alone 30 days with the Solar unless you basically use the watch like a standard watch. But spending $1200 who wants to do that?
@jamesmc0716 100% Noone wants a standard watch. I also have always on pulse ox enabled which further cuts into battery but I bought this watch for self measurement not to tell time or to get notifications. Also very much use the solar measuring to gauge my uv exposure in the summer. Turning things off to gain back an additional hour of charging the watch when it's not on my wrist doesn't appeal doesn't appeal to me. 2 weeks is plenty for me. If the microled watches keep a solar ring (at the very least a way for me to keep measuring the sun exposure I would switch if I'm guaranteed 9/10 days of AOD.)
I've been hospitalized 2x for it now and I've had it 4 times in 2 years. Trying figure out what, how, and when to eat. It sucks. Learning to live with it since it'll likely always effect me if I eat wrong for the rest of my life. 🤷
