Totally a house lamb. My mom had one when she was little. Pop pop was the farmer and did beef, mostly, but my mom talked him into a few sheep. She ended up taking a bottle baby and he slept with her for a while. She talked about that lamb until her last days. ❤️

A small tip for c-section lambs: Take a larger q-tip and swab one of the mature ewe's coochie. Take that and wipe the mouths of the newborns. That's a thing they now do with human babies who didn't take the natural route. It helps tremendously with their gut bacteria and therefore development.

Just a suggestion, we use human newborn onesies for our bottle babies when they are that small and have problems with body temperature regulation. Also, you can use newborn/premie diapers when you take them into your home so no messes are made. They're a life saver. Love your videos, btw. Got my husband watching you now too. Best of luck with lambing!

They have onesies for cats and dogs for after spay/surgery. I used one on one of my cats! The booty part is open for potty time. I wonder if this would work for preemie lambs? I have a bad perception on their size.

Sandi, you are certainly not the only one that struggles with preg tox! I have only 2 ewes, and this is our first lambing season with them. One developed toxemia and hypocalcemia last week. The only reason I recognized what was happening and was able to treat her (with vet supervision) was because of what I have learned from watching your channel! Thank you for that. You saved her life! Our road washed out and when she went into labor I couldn't call anyone for help. With you talking in my mind, I was empowered to assist the first lamb she delivered (nose first but both legs back.) She delivered the next two on her own. A few days later her sister delivered (unassisted!) quads. I knew I had to help feed them based on what I have learned from you. I say all this because I want you to know that through all you self deprivation and humility, you have made such a huge difference to my little farm, as I have no doubt you have to so many others.

IDEA! Sandi, you have all the wool from your sheared sheep....a person suggested: (use the fleece bedding and blankets as apposed to the cotton towels) for the lambs you isolate in the tote....
WHAT ABOUT LAYERING THE SHEEP WOOL IN THE TOTE.
Also for the MOMMAS that needed blankets due to WOOL LOSS could you make a wool blanket that looks like their natural wool so they don't scare the others and it keeps them warmer.
    Love from Texas!

    • @LoupGarouForte
      @LoupGarouForte 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Fleece blankets/bedding…ehhh could work but towels are easier to wash and dry, it’s more efficient which is great if it’s being used near daily for wet mucky lambs. Woollen things need a lot more care with washing and drying, you can’t just throw it into a washer or drier for efficiency.

Your not the only one with preg tox in your flock. We used too run a 200 head flock of mostly hair sheep in Georgia USA. They was a pasture flock and not in a barn like yours. No matter what we fed or how good conditioned the ewes was right before lambing we always had several go down with preg tox. We talked with our vets we had vets out numerous times We treated ewes and done everything possible. After years of fighting it the last year we had sheep we lost 25 head in one lambing too preg tox. After that we decided what the best thing for us to do was too sell our sheep. We felt defeated we had spent all
Kinds of money trying everything possible too do what’s best for our flock with no signs of progress. I love watching your Channel it reminds me of my sheep and the good times we had with them. I continue watching your journey on how you treat preg tox and maybe one day We will start a flock again and I’ll have some extra tricks too help fight preg tox. Please continue doing all you do for your lady’s. It never goes unnoticed. Hold your head up high your amazing it takes a strong woman too do all you do.

The ewes need to be fed according to litter size if you want to avoid pregnancy toxaemia. As you do scan them, why don’t you pen in appropriate groups. You can floor feed extra pelleted feed, with minimum of 5% bypass protein, to the litters according to need. Floor feeding also gives the ewes something to do as they go on searching long after the pellets have all been eaten.

Years ago I raised baby birds and I've nursed a number of other animal babies. My suggestion would be to use the fleece bedding and blankets as apposed to the cotton towels. The fleece just does a whole lot better at holding the heat in. Then I'd suggest that you drill a couple holes in the top of that bin and leave it on to hold more heat. Every animal/bird that I've raised will pant if it's too warm, until you see that, keep heating them up. Best of luck with this season!! Can't wait to watch!!

The only problem with that is possible rebreathing CO2 especially with premature lungs. When The blood CO2 rises it may increases resp rate and work of breathing to blow off excess CO2 and these premie lambs lungs are already comprimised. You have to have more O2 or bigger container if you cover the entire top even with holes in it. Retained CO2 in the blood may cause acidosis. It's probably okay with one lamb but you have to be careful.

First off, thank you for documenting and sharing this with us! I have learned so much from you. And actually because of this, I picked up that one of my ewes wasn't quite her self, and sure enough we are battling preg tox! Today is day 2 of treatments and I'm happy to say, we have seen a little improvement! She is getting up and walking, and eating her hay! We still have a ways to go, but at least we know what we should look for and how to handle things.
Seeing your strength in dealing with this, had helped build mine.
    THANK YOU!

I am always so impressed at how you tackle home improvements in your barn on your own. I strive to be independent and do things on my own. My Husband is so handy and can figure things out with out no problem. I struggle with that I am not a visionary person. I have to see it done to actually know how it works. Keep your post coming. I look forward to them.

I am pretty handy, but I am giving TH-cam creators half the credit! From knitting to replacing the pump in my washing machine, I have found so many quality teaching videos! My husband worked as a Marine Engineer, he and his team were responsible for all mechanical systems from light bulbs to the water systems. So he knows a lot ( their electric systems are DC, not AC like American homes), but he was gone for 6 months a year. Just be safe, learn as much as you can before you start, and have a plan if you can’t complete.😸

Always remember you have your weakness and your husband has his, you can do things he can’t and he can do things you can’t.
Just because we are females doesn’t mean we have to be super independent, we are all human.
My husband can put things together better than me, I try but he always ends up helping me and I appreciate it. Now I can cook and prioritize
better than my husband. We help each other out no need to be a full independent person.

I got pretty sick and my Dr. told me about a product you can only get on Amazon. It's called Liquid IV. It's a hydration multiplier. One glass equals three glasses in your body for hydration. It pretty much saved me. It comes in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. It's basically an electrolyte multiplier. I could never hold down three. LOL ?? Might be interesting and something to have around even at home. It comes in packets premeasured packets, very easy.

Thank you so much for sharing. The good and the bad are part of life. And you're videos tend to show the beauty in all of it. Life is so precious. It's not black and white. Those lambs lived a short time but they knew so much love in the time they lived.

Hello! I’ve noticed you’re using (or at least it appears to be) a human heating pad for the lamb warming box to keep the babies warm. A lot of the time, those have auto-off features which may not keep the lambs as warm as you’d ideally like, so I wanted to suggest a reptile heating pad! a reptile under tank heat (UTH) mat and a thermostat would be a great way to keep your warming box at an ideal and consistent temperature, while staying pretty inexpensive! they can be found on amazon or at any chain pet store in the reptile section and come in many different sizes as well!

"House lamb -- just one night" -- boy have I heard that before... 😋 A shame all 3 couldn't have made it, but it's great that this one has beaten the odds so far. From being a triplet, to having a sick mother, to being born premature, he's had it rough, but with you and Carissa looking after him, he has a fighting chance to make his mama(s) proud.
