Fumi I want to speak to the last few minutes of your video where you said having a man or a husband changes the game!!! FACTS!!!!! How many times have I had to say mention my imaginary husband or boyfriend because I KNOW it will change the way I’m perceived or treated??? How many times!!!!! Truer words have never been spoken!!!! It’s a man’s world!! SAD TRUTH!!!

I spent 7 years taking care of my mother, who had dementia, her dementia was a mild form. Some people in my family tried to place her in a nursing home against her will. I volunteered to take care of her. You are right, the quality of life is what is so important, it was not easy for me to take care of her full time but I'm so glad I did. They came to realize what they tried to do was wrong. One family member held a grudge for years. It was he who lost out on wonderful memories he could have shared. I hope Wendy is able to get out of there. She has some much life in her. She should be with her family.

What is different from Bruce Willis and Wendy ??…the answer is family! Bruce’s family are very united and close and very well together ….whereas as you pointed out Wendy’s was confusion at that time. Family strength is everything….because you never know what’s around the corner.

These people who have conservatorship of Wendy needs education. Because a person has dementia, it doesn't mean they don't understand abuse. Dementia has stages. Is she really at the stage where she needs to be institutionalized? How is it she only has $15? Staying in such facilities is quite costly. I am sure her money is paying for this facility. Why couldn't she stay in her home and they pay the bills. Something is not adding up

They don't care. It's a money grab. Her Conservator has donated to the same Judges campaign for their seat. They don't care about Wendy. She was an opportunity and she has money. They get a salary from dictating her life.

People truly dont understand how damaging emotional abuse can be because its hidden behind closed doors and there are no physical marks as evidence as with physical abuse. And that makes it all the more dangerous. Having witnessed a father trapped in an emotionally abusive marriage for 40+ years, your words about being careful about who you marry and have children with Aunty Fumes, are so apt. Men (and women) really check the background of the people you marry. Make sure they are innately good people. Demi Moore and Bruce Willis are a perfect example of i still have your back no matter what.

It makes no sense that they say she has a deteriorated mental state but she is still being given legal consequences if she discloses her guardianship. If she is impaired, why does it matter what she says? You can't have your cake and eat it too. The same thing happened with Kanye West, they say he is mentally ill and must be hospitalised but they still put consequences on his actions and words. This is fishy behaviour to me. Wendy doesn't have enough love around her to be going through this. The comparison to Bruce Willis made me think. 😢

I don’t understand that part either. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t have access to her money so she has to do what the criminal conservator says? Conservatorship is not just one person as doctors, lawyers, judges, nurses, banks and funeral homes are all involved in scamming people out of their hard earned money.

I listened to that BCS interview; they handled it well.
With regards to Ms Wendy, she sounded better than before and that was good to here.
Did I sense that she has cognitive impairment? Yes, most probable mild. Did she sound like she is being abused? A BIGG YES. Minor or major cogntive impairment doesn't necessarily mean you can't make any decision, unless advanced. She may have had signs that showed advanced dementia, however.... if she's off substances and her thyroid is controlled, that can improve her cognitive symptoms.
It seems her conservator doesn't have Wendy's best interest at heart. Why not allow her to live with her family, then portion out an allowance ? She may have cognitive impairment, but that doesn't mean she think for herself.

Let's be careful about commenting on capacity of a person. A person can be incapacitated for various reasons and yet have moments or periods where they seem fully functional and you could not tell you are dealing with a person with diminished capacity. For example, after the phone call or at specific times of day it may be more pronounced for Wendy. There are capacity tests and brain scans that need to be done to make a determination in these scenarios. And it can always be revisited by the court on petition by others if folks think her condition has changed. I'm sharing this as a lawyer who has some familiarity with the concept of capacity plus having my own mother with alzheimers which is quite advanced - if you get my mom on a good day she sounds and behaves like her old self pre illness. So, it may be possible that she needs a new guardian and a more suitable home for comfort (like if family become guardians and take her in). Also note that a guardian may need to limit access of others to the person under guardianship so they are not exploited or seen by the public in a vulnerable state that they would have never wanted others to see them in. Wendy is decribing what the Alzheimers floors typically look like in nursing home settings in terms of age and security on floors - that's what the reality is. Most folks with dementia are older and there will be people at different stages there (in other words there is not typically a floor for younger patients with dementia - not sure there would be enough). On these floors they need to make sure units are secure so people don't go wandering off and lost and in danger because dementia patients do get lost (you see them in the news) and then they have to give answers. So for me I can't go on how she sounds in a phone call or how she looks because that doesn't determine if she should not be under guardianship or not - maybe her guardian needs to change to another professional guardian or a family member if there is a suitable one who wants to take on the role. If the dementia is somehow gone or improved and she doesn't need to be under guraduanship then that can be litigated and if impartial doctors will certify this, then ok. We have these laws in place protect people from others and even themselves because they do get taken advantage of. You can't just listen to someone and say obviously they don't have dementia or they are not incapacitated - this has to be certified independently. And rights are not taken away lightly. If she's not protected and all her money is gone she will end up in a public/ state owned nursing home and trust me that will be far, far worse. Finally, I think it is bad advice to say don't take your meds - maybe she needs them and they do help to delay disease progression. Maybe a different placement with more engagement would also help. My mom is not in a home and being with family and having that engagement certainly helps with her quality of life. Just some things to consider fam. Love to Wendy ❤
PS this sad story is a reminder that we should do advanced planning for decison makers for ourselves should we need to have them (short term or long term). I encourage everyone to explore learning about the laws where you live - you can't assume that your married or common law spouse or siblings will automatically be able to make certain care and financial decisions for you - you may need to execute documentation to make that happen while you have capacity. Do the research to make sure the person(s) of your choice will take over your care or affairs should you be incapacitated for a short or long term period.

But some guardians can be exploitative.

It was quite a long phone call to say she is incapacitated, don't you think 🤔. I say this as a RN who has nursed these people.

@@sophielifanda1495That's correct. Agree with you. And then there is a process to go to court to challenge the guardian in that situation. The family can do that - the family can easily consult with any lawyer in that space to get advice on how to do that process. So the bigger question to me is why can't they or why aren't they doing that. Maybe there's a history there that we're not aware of.

Fumi, you should listen to the second part of Don Lemon‘s interview that he had yesterday about 5 PM with a former attorney who talks about guardianship. You should listen to that Fumi very enlightening. She hit the nail on the head.

Let's be honest. Wherever she has been has done her the world of good. She was a absolute mess before. But now it's time for a reevaluation and probable release of her personal rights. She is now capable and needs her independence and sense of respect back.

Who decides that a person should be under conservertorship anyway?!
What will happen if that building that Wendy now resides in should catch afire, locked down like Fort Knox??
Please, pray for Ms. Wendy, Iand others like her who have been stripped of much of their decision-making Power, pray also to remain in good health, and to be able to, always, have the power to make one's own decisions.
