We love Beowulf Grammar. We started when my son was 6 and he absolutely loves learning alongside Beowulf the dog. My 2 year old memorized the linking verb and prepositions songs. It's a wonderful curriculum.
Oh my goodness, Tanya!! You are killing me. I just printed off Fix It Grammar but now I’m going to order this Beowulf Grammar. It looks amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing this flip through 😍
Thank so much for your review, as I was wondering if I could use the program with a first grader, as we do introduce parts of speech and basic punctuation via picture books and hands-on activities and projects.
I think it would be alright to start in first grade if your student is a strong reader/writer, but it would have been too advanced for my first grader at the time. 💚
I would love to see the book ‘English from the roots up’. Thanks for the thorough look through of this curriculum. We are a bilingual family. We won’t be homeschooling, but I want to ensure my child has a good grasp of the English language, as the main language in school isn’t English. Which means we will be doing some home learning. ❤️❤️❤️
This looks AMAZING for kinesthetic learners! We are using TGTB Level 2 this year for my busy-body son, and he just isn't crazy about it. Lots of sitting, reading from their very dry readers, and it's falling flat, if that makes sense. Thanks for this review! Seriously considering switching!
Great review. Did you stick with it all the way through? Would you still suggest this program, or did you fund something else ? I've been debating on getting this or going another route. Any finale feedback helps!
We finished it over 1.5 years (2nd and half of 3rd grade), and it was fantastic! The kid who used this curriculum is a grammar wizard, and I fully attribute it to this program. It is more rigorous than it appears on first inspection, but it is paced very well. I fully plan on using it with the youngest as well when she is ready.
@@HerChildrenCallHerBlessed I think it helps with some random things that you may have forgotten with grammar rules. I didn’t use it every day, but I pulled it out every couple weeks.
Thank you for sharing this curriculum! I am not all that happy with the LA we picked... Looking around for next year 2nd grade. I will, definitely mention you! I’ll love a review of their LA!! I’ll love to use both the grammar and LA for 2nd and 3rd or at least for the first half of 3rd. It looks like it has a LOT so would love to enjoy it and not rush to get it done. Thank you for sharing that that’s an option. Would you consider using the LA as well? I can’t find any reviews on it. Their website and the programs look beautiful, they definitely need more reviews out there. Happy week!🙏💗
I’ve never heard of this program. Thanks for the review! I was heavily leaning towards using MCT this year, but the cost makes me hesitant. We cover a lot of language arts, so I’m also not in a rush to add anything, but I’ll have to look more into this program.
Thank you for sharing this. Did you ever decide to try out the Guest Hollow Language Arts? If so, do you have a review of it? Do you have any recent discount code to use on their website?
Tanya, thanks for sharing this, I may look into it for my youngest. I think I was put off by the title because Beowulf was such a painful read for me in high school. lol. But seriously, this looks like a fantastic hands-on Grammar program for my kinesthetic learner.
I haven't purchased this yet but I was glad to see your flip through because I was really leaning toward it. This is going to be our first full year of homeschool with my second grade granddaughter. I think she is most likely ADHD and enjoyed your videos on that as well. I was also looking at this company's history and language arts. Have you checked out any of their other offerings? I would love to know what you think.
I haven’t used anything else yet, but I love the enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity the authors bring to the materials. Hopefully I’ll be able to review some other things from Guest Hollow soon. 🤓
This looks really good! I am looking for something for my son that is having a hard time writing sentences. Is this only sold as a printable? Thanks for the walkthrough.
Yes, it’s only in printable PDF form right now. 🙂The Guest Hollow Language Arts program may be a better fit if you’re looking for sentence writing development.
Can you tell me how it spans those grade levels? Are there certain paged for certain levels? I have a 2nd and 5th grader. I was looking at Fix It Grammar series for the 5th grader and Logic of English Foundations D for the 2nd grader. Both are also doing Build Your Library at their grade levels. But they would probably both be drawn to this. Just not sure if it would be too basic of the older child.
My girls are going to be 6 and 8 and they will both enjoy this, but my son is going to be 11 and I definitely think he'd be bored. I think it depends on where the kid is in terms of grammar skills, and also whether they like to cut/paste/craft their lessons.
I printed most of it one sided for that reason, but if you were printing it in sections, you could print much of double-sided and just print the few cutting pages single-sided. I wanted to have them all printed at once, and I simply didn’t have the patience to check. We add all the completed pages to our drawing bin anyway, so it works out.
It took my second grader a little over a year to complete it. I don't think it needs to be repeated, and I am continuously impressed by how much she retained from this curriculum. Hope that helps!
No, my son is actually pretty comfortable with grammar, so he’s beyond this. But I think it would be fun for a kid who has been resistant to grammar. 😁
This looks great! But it's about a week too late! I just bought a bunch of Evan Moor books for Grammar :( I wonder if buying it as well would be overkill?
Do you do this along side Lightning Literature? I was looking into Lightning Literature but this looks so fun. My son will be in 2nd grade. I think both may be too much.
@@ProjectHappyHome this is good to know! I have been eyeing LL for a month or so and now THIS looks great too! TOO MANY GREAT OPTIONS! Thanks for the awesome flip through
We did, and I think it did an amazing job of preparing my daughter for her subsequent grammar programs. We did it when she was 8, and I think it would be perfect for the 8-10 range.
Yes - it's a stand-alone curriculum, so any grade level between 2-6 can use it. I think it is a little advanced for 2nd grade, but spot on for 3rd. I used it for my 2nd grader, but she was a very strong reader and pretty instinctive with grammar so it worked. After completing it, I can honestly say that it was one of our favorite curriculums, and my daughter keeps saying that she learned this or that in Beowolf as she does grammar now.

So good to hear that you’ve had a great experience!
I'm interested in seeing more of the book you mentioned that teaches English with Latin and Greek roots.
AvielaRivka I second this request!
Thank you so much for posting about this company, we are starting our tenth year and have never heard of them.
I’m happy to spread the word about them - the work they put into each unit is amazing!
This is so awesome…I truly appreciate this so much ..this is exactly what I was looking for. I want to implement this in our home!..thank u!

Did you end up enjoying Beowulf or did you use Fix It Grammar?
I’ve been having my eye on this curriculum for a bit ... like always , great flip through !😃
I’ll tell you how it goes through the year - I think your kids would really enjoy it!
I love the look of this! I had already bought a grammar curriculum, but I may have to switch!!
Or combine! This isn’t so heavy that it is too time-consuming.

It’s an older program that works with Greek and Latin roots/suffixes/prefixes. I’ll add it to my list. 💚

Another great option that I’d look into for kinesthetic learners in Grammar Galaxy - @arleneandcompany has great reviews of it on Instagram. 😊

I would love to see the reading books recommended during this video

Would love a video on English from the Roots!
Adding it to the list!

does Beowulf grammar need to be printed one sided bc of the activity pages?
I printed most of it one sided for that reason, but if you were printing it in sections, you could print much of double-sided and just print the few cutting pages single-sided. I wanted to have them all printed at once, and I simply didn’t have the patience to check. We add all the completed pages to our drawing bin anyway, so it works out.
Did you stretch this over a couple of years? I guess my only concern with it is that it is only made for one year or is it repeatable?
It took my second grader a little over a year to complete it. I don't think it needs to be repeated, and I am continuously impressed by how much she retained from this curriculum. Hope that helps!
What math program did you mention in the video?
I’m not sure ... we use Math Mammoth as our core and a smattering of Mathematical Reasoning and Singapore.
Will you be using this with your son also? I’m so sorry I’m sure you mentioned it but I missed it. 😆
No, my son is actually pretty comfortable with grammar, so he’s beyond this. But I think it would be fun for a kid who has been resistant to grammar. 😁

as if 'overkill' ever stopped a homeschooling parent before? ;)
Marie Shaurette 🤣 very true!
We’re throwing in some Evan Moor for practice as well. We tend to go LA/math heavy in elementary in this house.
Do you do this along side Lightning Literature? I was looking into Lightning Literature but this looks so fun. My son will be in 2nd grade. I think both may be too much.

Can it be printed double sided?
A lot of it can, but there are several cutting and pasting activities so I printed single sided for ease.
Did you finish this curriculum? How did you like it?
We did, and I think it did an amazing job of preparing my daughter for her subsequent grammar programs. We did it when she was 8, and I think it would be perfect for the 8-10 range.
Would a 2nd and 4th grader start at the same level if they both have had no formal grammar teaching?
Yes - it's a stand-alone curriculum, so any grade level between 2-6 can use it. I think it is a little advanced for 2nd grade, but spot on for 3rd.
