It still blows my mind he wrote this album as a teen, and it's one guy. Absolutely incredible. And the bands name/self titled album.. ever since I bought the album back in the day... every time I hear it... it STILL BLOWS MY MIND.
It is an Epic of the times. Original, emotional, intense. I have been in love with VAST since I bought a book and a free 4 track album for Everworld had the track Touched on it

Yep. Same. I found my sisters album after I was made to live with my dad after a long stint in an adolescent psych unit. This album means the world to me. Amongst the other albums i slowly pilfered from my sisters room. ♡
This has been one of my top favorite bands since I was like 12 or younger. I won a CD from mtv off of a mountain dew bottle cap. They had the song "Touched" it was number 5 on the CD. The rest was history.
I used to drudge begrudgingly through the dirty, underworld hallways for inmates on their way to court, silently singing this song to myself. Gives a whole new meaning to this song when basing it on the injustices of our justice system.
A lot of this album Jon sampled a lot of gospel, soulful music, that is very powerful and seems like a strange thing to sample for his music type, but IT WORKS. Makes his work so much more powerful.
Turquoise/Crimson came close. The damn record company or management really screwed him up. After this album they pushed him to make something with wider appeal, and we got Music for People. It wasn't bad, but the charm and uniqueness of this record was clearly pulled away. Also, he got in much financial trouble from the chanting samples on this album, which were amazing! and probably what the record company thought would turn most listeners away
@@justinhunt1714 why do you say he was "pushed" to do it? I saw some interviews where he basically says he wanted make mass-appealing music rather than this kind of original self-expression. Best VAST song ever, hands down. I haven't listened to them in years-I used to be obsessed, but they kind of lost my interest. I loves their stuff up till nude.. All albums after that I can't get into. They don't have that dark edge anymore:( flames is also beautiful, but this is the best-and quite underrated
Jesus!. After years i'm stil shiver listening to this grat album. It was my first purchase from online shop using credit card borrowed from my brother :)
i was 18 when this came out . one song was on the radio ... touched . i had 2 hear the album . its became my love . as i spead her thies my life flashes before my eyes , soothing , disturbing ....
Yeah Touched was the one that got me too. I'm still in awe of how epic and deep this album is. It's held up really well. Still blows my mind it was just Jon and he was 16 when he wrote the majority of this album.
This was the first music video I ever played on cable internet 20 years ago (dail up wasn't up to the task)- this artist shaped me in so many ways and I still can't stop listening to his albums. Thank you J.C. 💚
Was getting skin shivers from the way he almost wails some of this, so beautifully painful its intoxicating. never quite got what the words were but to find out it was 'as i spread her thighs my life flashes before my eyes' that made my skin tingle makes it even more genius lol
Yeah bro I used to get down on all the old classics...Final Fantasy, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Soul Reaver (Of fucking course), Medievel...I could go on an on. Point is, those were the best years of my life; and Vast only made it better.

Awesomely timeless... even after so many years! ... what kind of keys is Jon using at the beginnig?... some kind of organ, some kind of clavinet/pianet with massive distortion and a rotary effect?
I'm pretty sure that's not what they actually mean. He's talking about a woman, obviously even though he mentions young boys, pretty sure it's a metaphor.
My understanding of it, is that he sings about both women and death as one - with the "hole" meaning both, err, the obvious and a grave. They lead to the same thing; the downfall of men.
Vast is unique. When Jon played shows as Vast, he would be just one man and a laptop. My buddies opened for him, and I had to set then right on them calling Vast boring! Samples of lots of old gospel, jazz, and early American soul music. And he was 16 when he wrote the majority of this album. ♥️
I love vast. I'm trying to find bands similar to them. I already got into nine inch nails and how to destroy angel. does anyone know any other band similar to the ones I've mentioned?
Whenever I listen to this song I'll play it loud. But when it comes to this part @3:51 , you can bet your sweet ass the volume goes up even louder!! Holy goosebumps, such a great song!!
This song is incredible. I am going straight to the full album. Recommended to me by an equally awesome artist called 'Mr Flirkins' - type that into spotify/TH-cam, you guys won't be disappointed... ;)
@Anna M. ah man, I am really happy you like his music. I am glad I recommended him for you to find. Also type in 'Celladoor' if you want to hear some of my music, it is in a similar vein. A little heavier but still got these kinda alternative rock vibes/trippy. :)
I had the part that repeats stuck in my head for 3 years and I could not find the song. Today though...Today is a day for celebration.
Right
I come in here for the comments and the first one I see is this, no need to read n e more
"Dity Hole" is by far the most underrated song that I've never heard before
I was searching for this song for almost 10 years . Today is a celebrating day ❤
Welcome to the best band of your life.
It still blows my mind he wrote this album as a teen, and it's one guy. Absolutely incredible. And the bands name/self titled album.. ever since I bought the album back in the day... every time I hear it... it STILL BLOWS MY MIND.
That's nuts.

Welcome😁
changing perceptions from negative to positive is a extremely powerful thing we can do and not many of us are aware of this knowledge.

the colors chosen for the vast album cover image is deep.

oh, my point -
turn regrets into appreciation.
woes into wonders.
fear(hate) into love
Jon Crosby wrote this album when he was 16 too.
Reminds me of being young depressed, and listening alone in a dark bedroom before internet was freely available - which is probably approximately 95% of listeners experience here.
Me too. I only blasted this song when my mum was out. The lyrics were embarrassing. But I love the tune of this of this song.
Same. My friend's mum had this on CD so I broke into his house and copied it
I'm listening to this song alone, depressed in a dark room right now. Not so young anymore, though haha
Yep. Same. I found my sisters album after I was made to live with my dad after a long stint in an adolescent psych unit. This album means the world to me. Amongst the other albums i slowly pilfered from my sisters room. ♡
You WERE the intended audience.
I've loved VAST for 20+ years and never understood how it didnt do better. How much more freaking awesome do you need to be?
I think it had little to do with actual talent and so much more with being discovered by accident
Right!?
Did he ever tour?
Same. I found it in 2000.
This has been one of my top favorite bands since I was like 12 or younger. I won a CD from mtv off of a mountain dew bottle cap. They had the song "Touched" it was number 5 on the CD. The rest was history.

@@tylerleon8888Aw thanks, I rarely ever comment on anything. Happy to hear you enjoyed it. 🙂👍
"Touched" was track 2 on the studio album.

Yes so true... To me it represents a woman and the hurt that can come from her breaking your heart and it's about sexual relationship a d release..
Thanks Spotify for this great recommendation. Not often Spotify does anything right but this is one of those rare moments
I love how soulful this song sounds... I don't know why, but it really does to me.
A lot of this album Jon sampled a lot of gospel, soulful music, that is very powerful and seems like a strange thing to sample for his music type, but IT WORKS. Makes his work so much more powerful.
This track is a masterpiece.
Well said. I agree fully. Have a great week, I hope you see my comment on your year old comment and you blast this song right after you read it. Peace

Nude was amazing! Best one man band in history! Makes nine inch nails look like Teletubbies!
I remember being a teenager when this album came out. I thought it was the most fucking innovative cd i ever heard in my live!
Still up there, I reckon. Especially for one dude.
Because it was.
And he was 16 when he wrote it!

Always a toss up between this and Pretty When You Cry for me😁😁😁
not best....can't agree ;)
This song certainly brings back memories...i love this song sooo much!!!!!
Underplayed. Overdelivered. Loved it back then and now as well. 🙏
This was amongst the first four bands I discovered and bought music for as it released. I watched them and still depend on their inspiration.
Again...all over this group since day 1, ALL ALBUMS, very darn underrated! But this tune...
Darn straight and chill!

THANK YOU! Someone who understands musical metaphor and the way this band operates! :D I got that from the get go. It's too bad other people do not.
😂.. ah not everybody my friend.. your on the " right " path with your statement.. but it's a lot more layered than that 😘
At that time of my life the two bands that topped my list were VAST and Stabbing Westward.
