Excellent insight, Killer of Val. Since this was way before the start of CBGB’s salad days, what kinds of bands were playing there at this point? Actual County, Bluegrass and Blues bands, as Hilly had originally intended?

In the early days, the beginning, you were just kind of blown away thinking what the phuck did I just hear, but it gave you an instant hard-on anyway and you always craved to hear more...then as time progressed you realized you were at the vanguard of something really special, a movement - revolution actually that would ultimately change the face of rock and roll around the globe...@@andremadeira6916

Was not the first. But the Ramones and Johnny decided to imposes his style. Lovely but punk was more than Johnny's point of view. This is a fascinating document of the period in which punk was just starting to emerge from the shadow of early 70s glam and sleaze. One of the main riffs is lifted straight from 'Suffragette City'. Some of Joey's moves visibly owe something to Mick Jagger. Look at Johnny's jacket - leopardskin facings on the cuffs and lapels, worn over no shirt. Musically, this is very close to the recorded version: it's the stage presentation that isn't quite there yet (though the tiny stage is obviously restricting).

That would explain why they weren't accepted or taken seriously by Rock and Roll people or radio people at the beginning

Iggy and the stooges laid a foundation of sorts.... but the Ramones will always be the real deal, and undoubtedly the best "punk" band to ever do it for me. When you go through their entire catalogue you realize that they have soooo many good songs, it's unreal. I love Stooges, but Ramones just had far more in the tank.... in my humble opinion. One of the truly great bands, up there with the Beach Boys.

I think the Ramones first played at CBGBs late '73. This is as fresh and as raw as Elvis' Sun Sessions 20 years before. So many things happened between 1954 and 1974 in music. Today, I look back over the last 20 years to 1995 and see nothing but samey samey crap. Around the beginning of that period Oasis had a few good songs but they wEre hardly original, just Beatles mark 2.

Of the many strange things happening here: 1) dee Dee is performing stage right (my left) - NEVER saw Dee Dee or later CJ ANYWHERE but on Joeys left (My right) and I saw Ramones over 20 times between 1979 and 1990.
    2) Joeys has de-standed to mic! Again, I do not think I EVER saw joey singing into a "loose" microphone, ALWAYS leaning on the stand, he was.

i have a "joey angle of attack" theory - in the early vids like this he is leaning back (:O), by the time of .76 / ' 77 he is a few degrees forwards, (I presume at some point he was vertical), by near the end he practially horizontal forwards - then bless him he was horizontal
