I wait every other Tuesday impatiently for another of your wonderful, amazing videos. I have watched every single video at least twice, some much more. I have had you on all night for when I cannot sleep. You can’t know how much you have helped and inspired me to dust off my old machine and take a stab at quilting again. In the past 2 years I have lost my husband, my mother, my brother and have had 3 major surgeries. Not telling you this to make you feel sorry for me but to let you know you have literally helped to pull me out of depression so deep I thought I would never recover. You are wonderful and I thank you with all my heart.
Oooo. Blue is my favorite color. It’s fun that you don’t let non-traditional fabrics scare you off. I’m always like “nah no stretchy stuff” unless and only if I’m making a Tshirt quilt. Adding the scrappy strip was exactly what it needed. ❤❤❤
I have seen youtube videos on that place in Brooklyn. I didn't know you could order scraps from them. I would only want cotton or linen ( don't call me a snob). I will check it out. I admire Fabscrap for thinking about our environment.
So glad you added your adding machine strips! I love the look; definitely gives additional interest! How was working with the stretchy stuff? Love your work and your imagination and creativity!!
Your improv creativity is inspiring! This quilt came out so well and the big stich quilting looks great. I appreciate that you take the time at the end to show all around the quilt. Many other YT quilters just show a quick glance and we don't see the detail. Keep on doing what you do!
Dave-as always you are a scream! Love your creativity, your no nonsense, nothings stops you approach to quilting. You made an interesting, colorful comfy quilt that anyone could just meld into. ❤️👏❤️👏
COOL LOVE your energy and content. I FIRST found your YT while searching for IDEAS (my son has MANY aloha shirts he no longer wears…didnʻt want to sell them…wanting me to at least make a King size blanket or quilt…and I wanted to use ALL/MOST of the aloha shirt. I cut across the bottom under the sleeves. Will cut into strips, sew than cut blocks. Cut 3” off bottom and 3” off sides (scrunchies and lanyards). Hopefully I can get some blocks from the top of shirt. Iʻm not a quilter BUT in college…I remember sewing a twin (printed) flat sheet, twin batting and a twin (solid) flannel sheet together…then used embroidery floss to secure pieces. I think someone said back then…it was a tie quilt. Iʻm also from Hawaiʻi..and Iʻm really not into piece quilting BUT I have choke Hawaiian Applique patterns that I want to use for projects. Iʻm interested in shin stitching w/seeing machine. Do you have a tutorial for that? Have you used heat bond with your Hawaiian 16:11 applique projects? Reply SOON. Iʻm 66…Iʻve procrastinated for so many years and now Iʻm trying to finish what I can. Iʻm a hoarder (sewing and crafts) lots of materials Iʻve bought through the years. Iʻm going to do what I can and donate to non profits in my area that work w/all ages (children youth and other SWEET and crafters in my area (I donʻt want my children to just THROW my things away.😮😢😮
I've been thinking about experimenting with a variety of fabrics and not just quilter's cotton. Recently acquired a lot of clothes that were destined for landfill - I was like "Oh No!" So I will sort those fabrics and prints that I like and have a go at an impromptu quilt. I too do love using flannelette as a backing fabric. I have never tried the inside out method, so gonna give that a go too. Absolutely LOVE your videos - either for entertainment or inspiration. Cheers and Thanks for Sharing
Dave, I always feel inspired and happy when watching you create. So first of all, thank you for you! I was wondering what kind of work you do- would you mind sharing that? Good video today btw🥰❤
In N. California we have FabMo that collects fashion industry waste/excess/offcuts/samples from SanFrancisco Design houses! Thanks for great ideas on how to utilize them!!!
I'm excited to learn about Fabscrap. I've used knits in patchwork, but seeing you take on some of those 4 way stretch scraps was inspiring. You are truly courageous. Love the result. 💙💙💙💯
This is my favoritist of all the quilts so far! Don't get me wrong. I love all of your creations, but this one is super cool. The backing fabric is great!
You know Dave, When you were measuring your designer wall something popped into my head an if anyone could do this it would be you. Patent a designer wall with measurements on it.
You are absolutely nuts!!! And I love it you remind me of me but much more organised. I make quilts and do well making them but my work room is complete chaos. My “quilt creations evolve from the chaos in my work room.” keep going love the shows love watching you the whole thing is wonderful thanks.❤❤❤
I really enjoy your videos and projects. I don't know how you manage to do them in such a short time. My absolute favorite quilt that you made was one where you kind of mixed up the pieces of standard blocks in certain areas. The final product was wonderfully chaotic and unbalanced. The darker fabrics coalesced in one area visually teetering/moving/flowing off to one side. It was wonderful. I also love it when you add unrelated elements over the top. I imagine..., what if you had a long arm quilter and could design your own stitching pattern? Or, what if the elements you put together kind of fall off one edge as if when an image is partially cut off or out of the frame?
I have seen a thread cutter at The last homely house. You could use one of the blades for that. It helps saving time with chain pieced elements. And those blades usually are hard rto sharpen all around.
Another stunning quilt! Dave you are awesome!! I love that your videos show the whole process from choosing the fabric all the way to the finished quilt. Cannot wait for your Halloween quilts!! My favorite holiday. I have one Halloween quilt that was an online swap ( made a haunted house block) and I am currently working on one from a variety of Halloween fabrics.
Hi Dave. Pretty quilt. Blue is my favorite color. Have you seen any of the shirts that Zero Waste Daniel makes? He turns scrap fabrics into beautiful shirts. There are several videos on TH-cam about him.
This is wonderful and I love it! So did you actually NOT use any interfacing on all those stretchy fabrics? I don't know how you manage to keep all those fabrics behaving so well without some kind of stiffening....just wondering.
@@blacktancoonhoundsuk161 a moment’s unawareness can produce an unexpected event. Can’t tell you how many times I have trimmed fingernails and been very happy to have them trimmed instead of my finger nail Change that blade. 🙃
I have a weird stash of non quilting cotton, other fabrics. Many get used in smaller projects such as Zippered pouches. I would probably interface the super shiny stuff, cut out fun shapes and do applique on background colours. Whatever makes you happy with the creative process is cool. No rules right?
How do you have time to do all your fabulous quilting ? I thought quilting was your full time job then you talked about working! Oh my goodness how do you do it!
I am making a quilt for my niece. The blocks will be in cotton, but the Sashing will be her mother’s silk wedding gown material. Do you have any tricks or tips that you can impart?
I meant the ones you put in on purpose to start or finish. Do you work with the entire length of floss so you don’t get any stops in the middle of the quilt?
oh 😅😜 I work with like two "arm spans" of floss at a time and I tie a knot in one end and pop it between the layers to bury it :P 👨🏻then at the other end I tie a knot again and pop it between the layers again 😜
Do you reuse your blades? Someone else shared a tier system: no fabric cutting=> use it to cut paper, no paper cutting=> use it to cut… I can’t remember the third one.

Sorry for all your troubles, quilting helps keep me sane, it’s great therapy. ❤
You are also an inspiration just by being a survivor.
My sewing machine is my Happy Place and my therapist. LOL
I understand. Lots of love ❤️
“The first thing when making a quilt is get on Pinterest”, yes! I absolutely agree. Great video.
You’re a quilting beast! What a very cool attitude and approach you have to making quilts. I LOVE IT!
You blow my mind Dave! What a fearless quilter you are! ❤

“Yesterday was some strange hokey-pokey stuff” describes my daily life perfectly. Thanks for the turn of phrase.
I am a quilters spouse, and just catch your show when the wife is watching. Love the background music choice you use when you are free form creating.
You see possibilities and then bring them to life. This quilt is awesome, the strip of chaos was inspired.
I love how this quilt has an organic shashiko vibe!
Your new quilt looks a lot like Modern Art. It's interesting. Your hand stitches look very even. Thank you for this video.
That strip was chef's kiss.
Adding the thinner paper strip gave somewhere for your eyes to rest - love the finish 😍
Turned out great Dave. I don’t why you always amaze me, but you do. You are not afraid to tackle anything. Most of that fabric I would have tossed. ❤
U R hilarious and my happy therapy when I am feeling low! Thanks

Your creative mind amazes me. Another fabulous quilt made out of weird stuff. Love it!
Fantastic improv piecing, as always! The quilt is a stunning!!!
The bigger chunks are a vibe.

Another improv quilt great work never thought you could use any of that stretchy material 😊
It turned out so beautiful. ❤
This is great Dave! Love that you used those unconventional fabrics! And your hand stitched quilting lines are so lovely ❤
I would love to see your take on a cathedral window quilt
I see the aerial view of the farms and Main street down the "center". Love it

Good call on the backing. Quilting looks great, too. I am always inspired by your work.
I'm about to dive in headfirst with a pile of old bed sheets and old clothes ........ Going to be interesting 😁
Love your attitude, love the result, I need to try hand quilting ❤❤

Fabulous idea and turnout for your recycled quilt
Your most attractive project yet.
Beautiful quilt ❤

Love this soooo much! Looks super comfy. Well done, once again!!! 💙🎉
I love it🥰
Love it!

Wow it’s awesome !
Think of it like a T-shirt quilt.
Stunning

no I did use interfacing 😅
Hi. Love your post. Thank you
Thanks for sharing
I managed to chop the end of my finger off with my 'blunt' rotary blade yesterday 🙄 luckily at a diagonal so missed the bone. Love your creativity 😊
Dang be careful. Hope the finger heals quickly.
OUCH!

cool
Very cool Dave. I'm curious. Did you prewash all the fabric?
na because they were small chunks :P
What do you do with all of the quilts you create?
Some I give to my friends and family and then the rest I fold up into a square shape and place on top of a very high stack in my living room 🤣👨🏻
I am making a quilt for my niece. The blocks will be in cotton, but the Sashing will be her mother’s silk wedding gown material. Do you have any tricks or tips that you can impart?
Another gem! Dave - how do you deal with knots when you do the hand quilting with embroidery thread? Thanks!
I untangle them if I can or if I can't I have to cut the thread and start over, it's super annoying 😒😂👨🏻
@@davescraftroom thanks! I am not as courageous a quilter as you so pointer’s are always appreciated!
You made something warm out of discards.
How do you hang the pieces to the wall without pins? What material is that 😬? Need to know, love your videos!
it's quilt batting, the fabric just sticks to it 😜 (although I do pin as well sometimes because it's foam behind there)
First thing I do is sort by value light to dark
Do you reuse your blades? Someone else shared a tier system: no fabric cutting=> use it to cut paper, no paper cutting=> use it to cut… I can’t remember the third one.
haha tbh I'm not super precious with the blades, I use it to cut everything, paper, fabric, whatever material I'm working with, until it's too dull :P
How many of the fabric bundles did you wind up using on this quilt?
eh I think like half what I ordered 😜
Prob need to intrrface so dont stretch with final quilting
I quilted it by hand, some parts probably stretched a little but that didn't hurt anything 😜👨🏻
so, Dave, how heavy is that quilt?
pretty heavy 😜
Stretchy material: you might need a different needle. Ball point??? Walking foot, not sure.
I used a ball point :P
satin stitching w/sewing machine.
Nah....stretchy would go fast to GoodWill or the burn pile.
😺
Another beautiful creation. Thank you very much for sharing.
