Thank you 😊, with all the electricity problems and a few other things, I was unable to do my work properly, so I had to make a change.

Katinka, I think I’ve been with you since video #1 and it’s always fun to see you. Congratulations on your 2K. 🎉 Another thought about sewing machines for beginners. If you know a sewist, let them know that you are interested. They just might have a back up sewing machine that they would teach you to use and loan to you for a start. Also, thrift stores sometimes have good mechanical sewing machines at reasonable prices, but be sure you have someone that you can go to for service before using it and make sure all the parts are there before you purchase. Thanks for always encouraging future sewists! 😊-Deborah

I have a Husqvarna Viking Emerald and I LOVE it! I got it from one of the local quilt shops for a very good price. My old machine had broken and I took it there to see if they could fix it...they said it would be at least 3 to 4 weeks, which I just don't have time for, but then they asked if I had ever thought about trading it in. I had no idea I could do that! So I ended up doing that and got this beautiful Viking for $285! I would also suggest beginners looking at thrift stores (you can actually find some good machines in there) and also local quilt shops that have lessons will sometimes sell their older machines for a good deal. I also use a Singer serger..couldn't live without it! Katinka, if you ever come to Cincinnati or close to it, please let me know and I'll buy you a coffee! :)

Hi Ronda, Husqvarna was not available in South Africa because of sanctions, when I grew up, but my friend had one and it was amazing! So lucky you! Thank you for the advice on where to finde machines and what to look for. Your invitation is so kind, If I do get to your side of the country, I will definitely let you know. Happy sewing

Great video Katinka! I had a Bernina in SAfrica ...... then purchased an ELNA in the USA. Saved up to buy my dream machine, a Janome Memory Craft 6600 - very very heavy and I love it. Hearing your story was lovely, take care of yourself.

Hi, Katinka! I’m a Janome Gal! I have three of the machines from the 15000, to a Memory Craft 9500, to a QAS 25th Anniversary model, to a 8002C Serger, and finally a Quilt Maker Pro 18 VERSA quilting machine! I even have an ‘infant’ Janome with no number on it, just a nice very small portable machine. Thanks for asking!!!!❤

I’ve been sewing on my Bernina 930 for the last 36 or so years and wouldn’t trade it for anything! I used to haul it around to workshops but it’s too heavy for me now to do that. I purchased a pretty basic Janome for my daughter-in-law several years ago, it has some weight to it and it’s a good machine. Thank you for your videos - safe travels!

Thank you Pam. My Gran Had the 930 and my sister is using it now. It is such a brilliant machine.

Hello Katinka, Thank you soooo much for presenting your videos/process with less rapid action. And thanks for including some of your history/evolution too! My favourite 'workhorse' is the PFAFF 6087. Hugs!

I am really trying. My aim is to improve 1% with every video. I love Pfaff! The older ones are like the little engines that could.

I got a singer heavy duty sewing machine and serger I love them, they go through the thick layers with ease

They are really great machines. I worked on some, when I did a bra making course.

    • @luckyburritos

They are really simple too. I like that part as well. Just a few basic stitches and easy step by step button hole as well. Makes it beginner friendly to more advanced. I enjoy the drop in bobbin with the clear door as well. It makes it easier to monitor how low the bobbin gets.

    • @theseamstressatthecottage

Love that jumpsuit you designed! Can’t wait until you release a pattern for it. It’s such a perfect design! And thank you for sharing your journey as well as your sewing machine recommendations. What perfect timing because I was sharing my grievances today about some issues I’ve had with my machine! I’ll keep this in mind when I’m ready to buy a new sewing machine. 😊

Great vlog Katina- I agree you are so brave to have embarked on such an adventure. As for machines - I have the Same machine as you. I have had it for about 18 months and love it. The only thing it doesn’t have that I would like is a built in walking foot. Congrats on 2000+ viewers- so deserved. Long May you continue to 😊. Lynne

I really enjoyed this video. I have a variety of sewing machines and use them all. My favourite has to be my Singer 185K from 1960 as I make a lot of 1960s patterns using vintage 1960s fabrics. I also have a Singer 367 from 1975, which I always use when I make garments form 1970s patterns with vintage 1970s fabrics. I also have Brother and Uten sewing machines and a Brother DB2-B755-3 industrial machine. Obviously I'm slightly addicted to buying them as I also have another vintage one that isn't currently working! Which machine I use depends largely on what it is that I'm making at the time.
