The Grateful Dead created so many deep and meaningful songs that celebrate human life. This is church music now. Reverend Jerry Garcia sings us the Word!
I went to many shows and got the message directly delivered into my soul with no advertisements or greedy algorithms sucking up my life for data mining. Just pure music unlike any other performance ever made.
what other artist wrote and sang songs about his own death...... 1995 was a sad year when we lost him :). this song kinda sums up his situation being sick and having to tour to pay for all the deads mortgages..... i hope they appreciate the homes he bought for them
The song has such a ‘knocking on heavens door’ feel that well, need I say more? Yeah, thank you Jerry. Thanks so very much. I think he knew this might be it. Ever grateful…
I liked when Jerry Garcia Band did a reggae version of knocking 🍄🌁🌁🌁🍄 respect to the entire Dead family, San Rafael Marin county San Francisco California 🍄
Magnificent Mrs. & I were there. Still remember it so clearly- Jerry put absolutely everything into it! You could tell it was going to a different place. One great memory from the Tour from Hell and its aftermath. Thankz for sharing!💜💚💙
Wasn't this rendition of So Many Roads their last tour before Jerry died? Chicago 1995? I was at the last three shows! What's the show date of this song? I clearly remember Jerry looking WAAAAY older and sicker beyond his years, as did many fans. (Not a criticism, just an observation about his bad health and what was about to come a month later). You KNEW something bad was going to happen. Everybody in the audience felt it. They saw it with his physical appearance, his playing (though he did give it his all with this song). Something just wasn't right the last couple of years the band toured. That's when things really fell apart with poor Jerry, and I think that's why chaos ensued with the fans. The fans sort of followed suit a little bit.
Brilliant - both the song and the visuals. So much going on in both and so wonderfully aligned. Thank you Robert, Jerry and band and Jim. Very much appreciated.
This singular song encapsulates the mastery that the partnership of Garcia and Hunter had. Beautiful, beautiful paintings. Such a fine version to post, thank you ❤.
Thought I heard a blackbird singing Up on Bluebird Hill Call me a whinin' boy if you will Born where the sun don't shine And I don't deny my name Got no place to go, ain't that a shame? Thought I heard that KC whistle Moaning sweet and low Thought I heard that KC when she blow Down where the sun don't shine Underneath the Kokomo Whinin' boy got no place to go So many roads, I tell you So many roads I know So many roads, so many roads Mountain high, river wide So many roads to ride So many roads, so many roads Thought I heard a jug band playin' If you don't who else will? From over on the far side of the hill All I know the sun don't shine And the rain refused to fall And you don't seem to hear me when I call Wind inside and the wind outside Tangled in the window blind Tell me why you treat me so unkind Down where the sun don't shine Lonely and I call your name No place left to go, ain't that a shame? So many roads, I tell you New York to San Francisco So many roads I know All I want is one to take me home From the high road to the low So many roads I know So many roads, so many roads From the land of the midnight sun Where the ice blue roses grow Along those roads of gold and silver snow Howlin' wide or moaning low So many roads I know
Yeah. I have the boxed set, "So Many Roads", and the memory of Jerry through hearing his recorded music must suffice in his more tangible presence. His gift is still present to us. So many roads through a book of days by its Always Future Dead Practitioners. Meanwhile, Greetings to the Grateful Dead. The music persists.
Your the best! Love all the videos and this is such an amazing version, jerry belting out the last bit he had left on this one..thank you so much, can't wait to see what you come out with next!
This was amazing. Thank you! ❤. Edit to add: How are these made? I was mesmerized by the visuals the entire way through. Such a perfect blend with the performance. I can’t wait to watch more! And I’m genuinely interested in knowing how these are created!
Dear Jam Band dude, When i started playing Bass, 7 years ago, or so, is when i finally got Jerry. This SMR in particular was something i came back to regularly. I watched the youtube video of it all the time and read the comments all the time. Jerry fit the tune perfectly and his fans will continue to celebrate and weep all at the same time. Jerrys outro is still the greatest in this one. He's still holding on, dear Jerry!! Can you please do Terrapin Station? (Your Estimated Prophet has literally turned my brother into a Deadhead btw!!) Peace man and we wish you all the fortune and wisdom life can offer. Thats what its like to watch you work with Jerry. "So Many Roads to ease my soul.." -JG ❤ ✌️ 💀 🎸
Jim I'm hooked on the videos and the synchronicity of music to go with... like leaving the farm with out actually have too... thanks Jim. Mark Lisandrelli upstate new york
There five unique notes in a pentatonic scale, 500,000 plus combinations of tone, rhythm, depth, combined with 500,00 plus variations of melody, pitch, tone, vibration. Add words into the mix and things get even more astronomical. That fateful night, surrounded by 25,000 others, I heard them all. My life would never be the same. I learned about miracles, psychedelic busses driven by jazz speaking cowboys, heard tales of 10 cent cups of coffee, stories told by wrongfully convicted old winos, rail road riding hobos singing tales of so many roads, Mexican ladies doling out roses, cocaine addled engineers accompanied by train driving monkeys, troubled jaunts traversing the continent by bus and plane, the liberty bell's smelting process. Not a topic nor subject of human history was untouched in all the telling. Fireworks exploded in my brain.
I have listened to this to many times to count! The feeling that they all bring to me, especially Jerry, never leaves me without tears welling up in my eyes! WOW! I Love every Breath of it! Every Single Time!

I agree. Thanks for pointing that out! ❤ Didn't notice that till you pointed it out. Now I definitely notice it. Jerry's swan song!
This is one of my favorite songs. Jerry pours his soul into this song.
I miss Jerry.
Caught between a tear and a giggle. Oh so may roads. Thank you for this. Absolutely amazing work.
Until next time...

The chance caught up with you. That's good. Because it's better to know, than not.
All it took was hearing this particular song on their final night!! Now you've got a lot of catching up to do. Enjoy
This one is really awesome, thanks a lot!

Merci Merci merci merci merci ❤
D 'accord. De rien 🍄🌁🌁🌁🍄
How many roads I’ve been down. And the band was there with me for most of it. Miss you guys.

From over on the far side of the hill
All I know the sun don't shine
And the rain refused to fall
And you don't seem to hear me when I call
Wind inside and the wind outside
Tangled in the window blind
Tell me why you treat me so unkind
Down where the sun don't shine
Lonely and I call your name
No place left to go, ain't that a shame?
So many roads, I tell you
New York to San Francisco
So many roads I know
All I want is one to take me home
From the high road to the low
So many roads I know
So many roads, so many roads

Where the ice blue roses grow
Along those roads of gold and silver snow
Howlin' wide or moaning low
So many roads I know
So many roads to ease my soul 🌹
